Chapter 19
The explosion caught everyone off guard, it was chaos for a quick moment till the smoke was gone. The police looked around and found no one hurt by the explosion. Fatima breathed heavily as she calmed down. She looked at Grian with a smile but it quickly fell. “Grian!” she exclaimed as her hands were freed by Cristopher, she immediately held Grian who’s in pain, and held his side.
Fatima’s face filled with terror as she looked at his side torso bleeding out. She held his side as well. Christopher realized what happened and called the ambulance in. “Grian..” she whispered in a panic and he looked at her with a smile.
“If I die, delete the secret file in my laptop,” he whispered with a grin and she furrowed her eyebrows. “Not the time to joke around!” she irritatedly screamed.
“I’m glad you’re safe,” he said before he slowly passed out. The medical team then held him and took him to the ambulance. Fatima followed behind with tears in her eyes but stopped midway. She fell to her knees as she covered her face while crying. Christopher bent down and held her. “Shhs, you’re fine now,” he murmured to her.
“But Grian isn’t!” She screamed loudly before standing up and turning around and running to her brother who’s being treated by the medical team since he had some wounds. “Are you okay, Phil?” she asked and he nodded. She checked every part of his body as the medical team told her to back away so they can work.
“Fatima!” A woman in the distance called out her name and she looked at the end of the room and saw no other than her mother. She stood up and approached her mother who’s being stopped by the police. She squinted her eyes as she looked at her mom. “Did you do this?” Fatima questioned in fury and her mother’s eyes widened.
“What?! Why would I do such a thing? I was so worried when I found out what happened so that’s why I came here as well. I was being threatened, they said if I didn’t come, they’d kill both of you!” she exclaimed in worry and the room went silent.
“But I was threatened as well..” Fatima mumbled.
“So you got threatened, your mother got threatened, and William got threatened as well?” Christopher questioned in confusion and she looked at him. “William? William! His mother was one of the people earlier!” Fatima exclaimed.
FATIMA TOGETHER WITH HER brother was taken to the hospital as well to check for any damage that could’ve happened to them. After they checked Fatima, she asked her brother if he was fine and he said yes. “I’m sorry,” he apologized and she furrowed her eyebrows.
“It wasn’t your fault, Philippe. What matters now is that you’re safe. Get some rest, will you?” Fatima said and he sighed before closing his eyes. He’s laying down on a hospital bed with an IV connected to him. She waited for him to fall asleep before she stood up and left the hospital room.
She was walking around when she bumped into Christopher who’s talking to the police. “Where are you going?” he asked and she stopped walking.
“Where’s Grian?” she asked.
“He’s in the operating room, Fatima. You should get some rest first,” he told her and she scratched her head in frustration. After Christopher talked with the police, he approached Fatima and held her shoulder. “Why don’t you rest?”
“If it wasn’t my mother who plotted this, then who? William’s mother... she told me someone requested to take me as well,” she explained and his eyebrows furrowed.
“I still don’t trust your mother, we can’t trust her yet,” he affirmed and she nodded. She sighed heavily and looked down. (I can’t forgive myself if Grian dies from the gunshot,) she thought to herself.
A couple of seconds later, Nikki and William arrived at the hospital and missed Christopher and Fatima. They went to the hospital room of Philippe and they found him sleeping. “Thank god he’s okay,” William said and exhaled in relief. Nikki approached his bed and said, “Philippe!” she exclaimed and he slowly opened his eyes and he looked to the side and saw her.
“Nikki?” he asked and she cried as soon as he spoke.
“I’m sorry I didn’t go with you, I promise I won’t leave you alone after school anymore!” She apologized and he chuckled. She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. “Why are you laughing?!” she frustratedly asked.
“You’re acting cute, it’s funny,” he said and caught her off guard. She started blushing and he laughed even more. William on the other hand, was uncomfortable watching the two be flirty so he decided to leave the room to find his friend.
“I’ll find your sister,” Will said before opening the door and leaving. He noticed that two guards are now guarding Philippe’s door.
He walked around the hospital and saw Guards so he followed them. He then found Fatima and Christopher waiting outside an operating room. He approached Fatima and immediately hugged her. “What happened?” he asked and her eyes widened.
“William.. your mother…” she whispered. Christopher explained that the only way they found them was through William who was being threatened by his mother. If it wasn’t for him, they would have taken ages to find them. She hugged him back and he sighed in relief. “I’m sorry you got involved, she only wanted me-“
“You’re wrong. Someone asked them to get me as well but I have no idea why and who,” she explained and confusion is evident on his face.
He was about to say something but she spoke instead, “My mother arrived at the scene and said it’s not her and she was being threatened as well.” William was confused even more. So he and her mother were being threatened using Fatima? Why her though?
A few hours later, Grian’s condition got better, and was transferred to another room. Fatima went inside immediately as she looked at Grian who’s peacefully sleeping. “Thank god you’re okay,” she whispered even if he can’t hear what she’s saying. As she was watching over him, she fell asleep.
IN THE OTHER PART of the city, people gathered in a meeting regarding what happened earlier. “You could’ve just.. taken them. Why let them go?” one asked and the woman laughed ominously. She tapped her fingers on the table before answering.
“I love playing games, it wouldn’t be fun if I just took them.”
“It’s like a cat playing with its prey. It makes the prey go insane.”
BACK AT THE HOSPITAL, Grian’s mother rushed to the hospital once she heard the news. It didn’t take long for the media and citizens to find out as well. The news spread like a wildfire since one of the biggest company’s CEOs was involved with the kidnapping and the company’s reputation might be at stake.
His mother rushed to his hospital room and opened the door. Once she opened the door, she stopped herself when she found Fatima spoon-feeding him as the two looked happy. His mother blinked a couple of times and her lips parted. “I suppose my son is fine after all?” she asked and laughed awkwardly.
“Mom!” he exclaimed and she walked into the room with food in her bag.
“What did the doctor say?” she asked and her expression turned serious. He sighed and shrugged. “I just need to rest and recover here in the hospital and once I can go back home, I need to rest even more,” he explained and she nodded.
“I’m sorry for what happened to your son, it’s my fault. I was the one that was supposed to get shot but he blocked me from getting hurt-“
“I understand, sweety. It’s not your fault. I’m just glad my son is safe,” she answered.
Once Grian woke up, he explained what happened. The bullet was meant for her but he blocked it and took the bullet for her. He was about to explain why he did so but his mother walked in on them talking.
A moment later, Christopher’s mother walked into the hospital room where Grian is in and immediately approached Fatima. “You little bitch!” she exclaimed, starting a commotion. Fatima stood up and bowed her head.
“Mrs. Denver-“ She got cut off with a slap. Her eyes widened as she held her cheek. “Do you know how much damage you’ve done to the company just by this scandal?! How dare you get my son involved!” she scolded Fatima and she continued bowing her head. “I’m sorry..” she whispered.
“Sorry won’t do anything!” She was about to slap Fatima again when Grian’s mother grabbed her hand, stopping her from hitting Fatima. Christopher’s mother turned and looked at her with daggers for eyes. They stared at each other, one of them with a glare and the other with an annoyed look.
“How dare you,” Grian’s mother said as if she’s being a protective mother to Fatima. “You can’t just hit her! She’s a victim in this!” she continued.
“Mom-“
“Shut up, Grian,” she commanded and Grian stopped talking and grabbed Fatima’s hand and pulled her closer to him. “Are you okay?” he asked as he massaged her hand and she nodded. She worriedly looked at the two women.
“Mrs. Denver, I apologize-“ She got cut off.
“Who are you and how dare you stop me?” Mrs. Denver asked and Grian’s mother raised her eyebrows. “A person that can think logically unlike you. It’s not her fault that your son got involved! He chose to do so willingly and so did my son! You’re lucky your son didn’t get shot! Did I blame the girl for it? No! And you only cared about your company’s reputation, unbelievable!”
The two were about to start fighting when Mrs. Denver’s hand was taken and she was dragged out of the room. “Christopher!” she complained as she was dragged outside. Fatima looked at Christopher with worry and guilt.Download Novelah App
