Chapter 16 - Give Me A Break

*Pryce Winsley's POV*
---
"Show us your beast form, Pryce." Oriana Hildebrand, the head of the Worldwide Werewolf Council, aka my grandmother, ordered while I stood in the center of the room, circled by a huge screen with people in them. Six mighty leaders of each Continental Werewolf Council, who were currently in the other parts of the world, and here with me are the queen, General Rayver- aka Ali's right-hand, and my grandmother.
And honestly, all I feel is pressure. For the last ten minutes of me being in this room, it seemed like the spotlight had been on me always. I mean, I am used to being the one that leads, commands, and manages my employees at the academy, but this one is hugely different. It's pretty monstery, and damn, I am clueless as heck being one of them, a werewolf. And now, they are asking me to transform into the wolf-, no, the beast form. I think what they mean is the giant, aggressive one. I don't even know how to transform into the cute wolf form, and here they are asking me a big thing to do. Like literally, big.
"Umm, I... Uh, I... Actually, and honestly, I don't know how to... do it... Again. Mhmm. I am new to these things, and I am still not aware of what are the things I am capable of." I replied with all my truth, stuttering, and turned to look at Ali and Granny, who seem pretty understanding about my situation, while the other men and women on the screen are looking dissatisfied.
I think it's not my fault that I am clueless about being a werewolf because Granny told me earlier that she and Mom wanted me to grow up like a normal human person until the right time comes. They did it so that they could hide me from the radar of the enemy that wanted to kill me before my awakening would come. She mentioned that when the news was heard all around the world that King Alcatraz was killed by General Damien, his trusted friend and right-hand, Granny faked her own death when the new king searched for the ones blood-related with The Rightful Ruler so he could capture and lock them up just like what they did to Alison, so they couldn't have offsprings that would possibly possess the soul that I have. Granny Oriana went rogue after her alpha mate was killed together with his whole pack in protecting her, and she was pregnant at that time with my mom. After giving birth, she sent the baby to an orphanage in the human community, and she continued running away from everyone who chased her. Then my mom got adopted by a nice human family, the Karstensens, and she had met Granny when her eighteenth birthday came. During the time my werewolf mother gave birth to me, granny already knew that I hold the soul of The Rightful Ruler, and she mentioned that I needed to be protected at all cost. And it means not telling me anything about my true identity. I grew up human under the care of my parents, but mostly I am with my oblivious father. Because unfortunately, Mom died in a plane crash when I was ten, and she wasn't able to guide me about everything that I needed to learn when the time was near. And when the false king was killed by none other than my stubborn vampitch mate, Blair, Alison went to find granny, and together with their remaining kind, they rebuilt and strengthened the peace and order of their race. And they are successful.
Then here I am, young, naive, and confused, not so sure if I could pass as a ruler of the werewolves, not just in one particular small place, but the whole damn world. It's crazy, right? Yeah, I think I am going insane with that huge responsibility. I'm not ready.
"If she cannot transform into any of her wolf forms yet, isn't it better that the throne will stay with the current ruler?"
"She has no idea about being one of us."
"She is still so young."
"There are lots of things she needed to learn first- essentially, shifting into both forms."
"We are not quite sure if this young woman's claim that she possesses the soul of The Rightful Ruler is true."
Differing voices of the people on the screen echoed inside the room and were being shut off when Ali slammed a hand on the table, which broke, and she growled, "Are you questioning the validities that she can lead us all? That she is the one destined for the throne? Don't forget who you are facing, all of you. I may be alright if you won't respect me, but remember why you are in those chairs. I didn't call for a sudden meeting to ask for your opinions about how capable of ruling Pryce is, but just to let all of you know that she is well and alive. And yes, as your highness, I am ready to give the throne to the rightful one, maybe not for now, because we all know she needs time. And I am giving her all the time she needs to be ready. We are going to discuss things right after I talk to her, alone."
I gulped as I could feel the tension within the room when there was silence from the council members.
"Pryce, shall we?" The queen, who seemed to be a bit calmer now, asked me to come with her, and I lightly nodded my head in response.
---
"I'm so sorry about what had happened back there, Pryce. It may be just so startling to them that you unexpectedly have risen from death that was said in the prophecy. They firmly believe that because you were killed, the next ruler would arise within the next half of this millennium and in one of my descendants. But you are here, and I couldn't be more willing to take this chance to mold you into someone who you should be. It's an honor. Also, don't worry; I will handle those people, and we would establish some ordinances to make your return be suppressed to everyone else yet, especially that you are a part vampire. And we will try to agree on some solutions to how we can help you be the leader they deserve. The rest of the race would know that you are back and ready to govern once you learn more about being one of us. I know this is a lot to ask you, but you should be prepared. You asked me for time, and I will give you time." Alison apologized and explained while we walked on the riverside, and I let out a sigh as I thought of the things she wanted me to do.
"It's okay, Ali. And thank you. I know they have doubts because I doubt myself also. If I can't run away from this destiny and responsibilities, maybe I should run into it because you said that I have no other choice. I don't know how to be one, but if given time, I am ready to learn everything that I need to. I think I can handle it." I answered, quite confident, and she stopped walking to look at me with a warm smile formed on her face.
"I'm glad to hear that. And yes, we will work on those things soon. But for now, I need you to obey me... Go home and relax." She replied, and I just looked at her with my puzzled face. Is that a command? That would be so nice if so.
When she might have noticed my question mark face, she added, "I want you to clear your mind of some stressful things and try not to think of any burdens about being a werewolf yet. Have a vacation because you need one. You might also catch up with the changes of this era and have fun while you still can. You are still a teenager, so yeah, enjoy every bit of it. But if I will reach out to you about the things we would agree with the council, I want you to be ready. Maybe one of these days. But I assure you that it won't be that rough."
I smiled when I heard her explain it more, and I couldn't be happier that we have this woman as the ruler. She is so considerate of me. But maybe I just deserve a break, you know?
"Alright, thanks a lot, Ali. I will surely do that. And you already know where to find me if you need me. Just go knock on the front door before entering the house, okay?" I gratefully replied and warned her, and she laughed while nodding her head in response. She definitely knows what her wife has gone through whenever she barges into our territory.
We continued walking, but we suddenly stopped in our tracks when we noticed something that had been on the water of the wide river.
Are those... People?
"Oh, the kids," Ali muttered, and I tried to concentrate on seeing the figures more clearly using my vampire ability.
And indeed, it's Carson and... my mate.
When the two witches saw us looking at them, they both appeared before us.
"What the heck are you doing and both of you dripping wet, Blair?" I asked my girlfriend, wondering why they are at the center of the river earlier, and she has been grinning sheepishly.
Then I turned my gaze to the little girl when she announced, "Mama, we walked on water! Aunt Blair taught me how."
"I see. You walked, but why are you wet?" Alison asked her daughter, and my mate seemed to be holding in her laughter. This freak must have done something stupid.
"Not just on water, Ma, but also underwater," Carson answered, and I slowly turned my head to my mate and glared at her.
"What? She was curious about learning to control more her witch skills. She mentioned that she is more capable of being a werewolf and transforming but hasn't found her field of power in being a witch. Suppose it is controlling the elements earth, wind, fire, or water. And I am just helping her nurture her other abilities. You know what they say; what comes around goes around. Her mommy was my mentor before, and I am happy to teach her what I learned from her mom. Also, we were at the river because we just tried to see if her field of power is the water, like Sander, Allan, and Aunt Alexandra. But we guess it's not, right, Car? But she quite knows how to walk on water using her witchy-telekinetic ability." Blair defended and explained, to which the child agreed.
"Okay. Woah, why are you emitting smoke, Blair?" I replied and uttered in surprise when she suddenly went hot. Literally, hot.
"I'm drying my clothes. Do you want to, Carrie? Oops, overheat!" She answered and asked the little girl, then dabbed the right sleeve of her shirt when it flamed up.
"No, thanks, Auntie. I will go change up, Ma." Carson declined and told her mother and disappeared using her Mirak's Crystal bracelet.
"Alright, fair enough. So... Umm, how did it go, girls?" My mate mumbled and asked us as she turned her focus to the queen.
"It's okay. There are just things that need to be sorted out. Pryce knows what to do next, and I think we are going great here." Ali answered the hybrid, which nodded her head in response, and I patted her back when her shirt started to catch fire.
"Thanks, Babe. Okay. That's good to hear. Hey, change the topic. I still remember this place, particularly over there on the other side of this river. It was where the Big Hunt happened, right, Ali?" Blair whispered to me, and she asked the queen when she recalled something. It was the time when they first met, and Blair saved Ali and all other human prisoners that were about to be killed by the ruthless werewolves that night.
"Yeah, it was. Well, we are still doing the Hunt for the werewolves who reside within the Central Domain every full moon. And the Big Hunt, in which the participants are mostly the Alphas of packs in different parts of the world, happens every time there is a second full moon in a month. Once in a Blue Moon." Alison replied and explained that it made my mate look at her in complete horror. And I wonder why she does feel disturbed about it.
Then she asked in shock, "You are still slaughtering humans for that fudging sport?"
And I snapped my head to the werewolf leader with my baffled face. What? Slaughtering humans?
"No. No, not humans, Blair. I changed everything Damien has established that is against the other races' statutes. We hunt animals instead of people. Mainly livestock that we have raised for that particular event. Don't worry; you would both get familiar with the changes as time passes." Ali clarified, and Blair and I let out sighs of relief.
"Great. Animals seem reasonable." Blair muttered, and I couldn't agree more.
Now, I am getting more and more curious about what I should learn as a supernatural being with two races, both vampire and werewolf.
After talking about a few things with Alison, Blair and I bid her goodbye so we could have a rest because of being jet-lagged and prepare our lunch.
When we arrived in the living room of Blair's house, we were both startled when we noticed her parents sitting on the couches, and well, they seemed like they were waiting for us to arrive.
I wonder why they are here.
