Chapter 29 - Blood Moon
*Pryce Winsley's POV*
---
"I'm done dressing up! I'm ready, Pumpkin. Should we go now?" Blair cheerfully said, turning to look at me on the bed, and she walked near me wearing an inquisitive face. "Are you okay?"
I looked at her and acted normal, and I nodded my head in response. "Yep. I'm fine, love. Let's go?" I answered and smiled as I stood up. She closed her green eyes, and they turned red when she opened them. She better be in her vampire form from now on.
"Why do you feel so worried? Hey, is there something wrong? Something strange? I'm sure there is. We won't meet the Herreras if you are not feeling well. We could just stay here and watch some movies, or if not, we will go somewhere else... To make you feel better." She asked and stood before me, tucking some stray strands of my hair behind my right ear.
I know she feels what I feel, and she wanted to cheer me up. I have been feeling uneasy since I woke up this morning, and I know that it's because tomorrow is the day. It's a big day and much bigger when night comes— it's when the blood moon will rise. And right now, I cannot shift to my vampire form.
"I'll be fine, Blair. Don't worry. I think I can handle this dinner meeting with these people. Come on, let's get going." I told my mate and began walking, but she held my right hand to stop me.
"Pryce, you are not feeling well. You don't need to force yourself to go into this boring meeting and undoubtedly full of nerve-wracking arrogant people." She said, sounding so serious since she's calling me by my name, and I let out a deep breath.
"And what am I supposed to do? We have to be there. We waited for this appointment with them for a month, and I won't let this pass. They have set it already, Blair. Let's just go before we get late." I sternly answered and continued walking to head out of our bedroom, and I heard her sighed but followed behind me.
As I climbed down the staircase, I suddenly stopped in my tracks when I felt like I had gripped the handrail so hard that it cracked. I slowly looked at my right hand and saw something that I expected to see tomorrow night—claws and gray fur on my right hand. Oh, my!
"Whoops! That's what I'm talking about, Babe! You feel unstable. Well... That looks so cool, by the way."
I heard Blair let out behind me in surprise, and I examined my hand closely and noticed it slowly went back to normal. Weird.
"Yeah. That's... That's not in my control, Blair." I confessed and felt my breathing began to become heavy as moments passed. I am so sure that the almost full moon has risen now.
"Mhm. And neither does your purple eyes since this morning and your strong werewolf scent. I told you, it's not a good idea to meet with human beings for dinner while you are almost at your shifting pace. They might become your dinner, I'm afraid, Sweetheart." She replied and stated some facts.
I tried to think again about the next things we should be doing, and I sighed in surrender. "Fine. Let's postpone the meeting. Let it be next week, the same day today. I hope they aren't there yet and would consider it."
"Hurray! Well, I am hella sure they ain't have any choice. I'll call Lee and Marve to let them know." She agreed and fished out her phone from her pocket to call our lawyer and the principal.
I have been worried about this all. I know that I could lose my self-control if that awakening pace is yet to come to me. Hopefully, tomorrow will turn out great and not what was expected.
---
"Ali, are you sure this cell could restrain me for the whole night once I go all out of control?" I asked the queen curiously as I ran my fingers on the inner surface of the cube-like shaped container—cage, as what Blair calls it.
I winced when I got a touch of the silver bars, and I looked at the woman outside the cell when she answered me.
"As we all know, silver could make us weak or can kill us. And... Surely, this container could be enough to deter you from going violent for the rest of the night later."
I nodded my head and looked at my mate, who had been lying down on the bed inside my cell. She seemed thinking something deep since she's not bothering to join in my conversation with Alison.
"Alright. But to make sure I can't hurt anyone, warn the rest to stay away from this room and building as much as possible. Even you, Blair." I asserted and saw my mate snapped her head to look in our direction.
With her eyebrows meeting each other in disagreement, she spoke, "No. I am not going anywhere away from you. I could just handle myself just fine, Cupcake. You don't need to worry about me. I'll be with you whatever happens."
"Blair, don't be so stubborn. We don't know what this beast inside me could do once it's out. I just need you to be safe." I argued while walking near her, and she stood up, wearing a troubled face. I know what she wants, but it's not what I need.
"I just want to make sure that you will be fine, Pryce. I promise I will be here to ensure this cage won't hurt you or you to hurt yourself. You can't hurt me. I know you won't. Please?" She assured me and held both my shoulders while looking straight into my eyes. She smiled and pulled me close to her to put me in her arms.
"I'm scared, Blair. For you." I whispered, hugging her back. I am just afraid about what I have known about the complexion in me.
With my further research lately, it is said that there are instances that when awakening comes to the rightful ruler, particularly the hybrid ones, death always occurs. The beast needs to satisfy its hunger until it can be strong enough to control itself— me to restrain the werewolf me. It's a lot of risks to take, and also lots of meat to eat. Damn, I am so damn nervous about everything, especially that I am the first tribrid. If I were just purely werewolf, it wouldn't be much of a problem, same as Alison's father, Alcatraz. He was all in control when he first shifted. And me? I'm absolutely aware that I will lose myself for some time. Hopefully, I can't hurt anybody to find more food if these buckets of meat in here won't fill me up, and I shouldn't hurt myself if I attempt to escape from here.
I felt my girl kiss my head, saying, "You don't have to be afraid about me. I'll be fine."
I somehow felt calm in my mate's embrace, and she broke off from the hug to look at me.
"What do you feel right now?" She asked, and I took a deep breath and answered unsurely, "I feel like shit, Blair. I can't figure it out."
"Mmm, shit, indeed. Don't worry; you're a gorgeous shit, Babe. So... You better sit down, keep calm, and relax. Come here." She chuckled and ushered me to sit on the bed while she held both my hands in hers.
"Seriously, Blair... Stay away from me. Even just tonight. I only have less than an hour left before everything goes ugly." I begged her one more time, and her face turned into something about to insist, but I pulled her in for a kiss to stop her. She slowly responded and held my nape to pull me closer.
"Please, my love. I can't risk your safety." I uttered under my breath while our forehead touched, and she inhaled deeply and nodded her head.
"Okay. Alright. Fine. But I will be just outside this cell. I'll barge in if something goes wrong. K?" She agreed with a broad cheeky smile, and I looked at her red eyes with my grim face. She opened her mouth again and closed, saying nothing.
"Outside this building might do, Blair. You should stay with Alison in the safe room where you can watch me on a screen. Alright? You should go now." I told her and noticed her feeling a bit unhappy about it but nodded her head lightly.
"Okay. I could just teleport here to you if you need me, anyway. Good luck." She finally agreed with me and stood up to leave.
"She will be fine, Blair," Alison told her, and I smiled at them as I waved them goodbye.
I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that the most important person in my life had gone out of this place with Alison.
I went to lay down on the bed and turned my head to look outside the window on my left. I saw the sunlight was almost gone, and within a few moments from now, I would see darkness.
"Pal, please don't be so nasty, alright? We can do this nice and easy." I mumbled, hoping the beast could hear, and I closed my eyes.
---
"Pryce! Please, stop! I will never hurt you."
"It's... me, B... Blair!"
"Remember me, my mate."
"If this will be... My end... I want to let you know... That... That I... I love you so much, Pryce. More than anything in the world."
"And, I will... See you... again in our next life. Please... remember me."
I heard a faint voice crying, and I hastily opened my eyes, only to see my girl's neck bleeding while blood dripped from her mouth, too. What the...?
What is happening? Why...?
She seems pinned to the dirty ground, struggling to get away from someone's hold on her neck—someone's sharp claws that dig deep in her flesh.
No, it's not someone's. It's mine.
