Chapter 80. Layered Suspicion

Hendramo, who felt exhausted that day, decided to take a taxi to his house. His eyes felt heavy and like they would close immediately if he tried to keep them open. If something unpleasant happens while he is on the road, such as an accident, then he will only get bothered instead of getting a good rest. After all, because this morning he was too busy, he actually left his car keys with Leo, who had stopped by to tell him how his morning with Aini was.
It was obvious that Hendramo was very happy when he heard Leo's story. That way, they could immediately continue their meeting to discuss the wedding date. Everything that happened went so smoothly that Hendramo couldn't stop smiling. When he looked up at the night sky, which was lit up by the lights, he could imagine what Aini's wedding reception would be like. Not only will it be luxurious, but it will be filled with clients who can become investors in it.
Just as his eyes were about to close, suddenly his cell phone rang. He took a deep breath and finally opened his eyes, checked the cell phone in his coat pocket, and saw that it was a message from Leo. The wrinkles on his forehead were very clear, and he thought that the man was trying to talk about something related to work. However, when he saw Aini's name mentioned, he immediately sat up straight and his eyes widened perfectly.
“Oh?  What's this?  Will Aini come home late? Dinner together?  Wow, wow…  "So all this time Aini has only been trying to sell at high prices, huh?” Hendramo chuckled at his son's behaviour—not a chuckle that showed he was happy, but a chuckle that seemed to belittle Aini. He shook his head before typing a reply for Leo.
"We're almost there, sir." The taxi driver, who had been driving in silence, decided to say this to Hendramo. He, who was still focused on his phone, looked up.
“‘Ah, yes.  From here, you can turn right; later, you will see a large building; my house is behind it. The driver nodded his head before following Hendramo's directions. It didn't take long before he finally got home. With unsteady steps, he immediately went downstairs. “Just take the change and go there immediately.”
Hendramo's way of speaking sounded harsh, but seeing the large amount of money in his hand, the driver decided to let it go and quickly left. Hendramo noticed the quiet area of his house. Even in his house, only a few lights are on, even though usually the lights in the room are always on. The wrinkles on Hendramo's forehead started to return as he glanced at the watch wrapped around his arm, trying to make sure he wasn't coming home too late.
"Weird," Hendramo muttered. “Is Niar out?" "But it's too late for him to still be out." Hendramo's feelings were not at all calm. He even looked around to make sure Niar was around. But when he found nothing, Hendramo just sighed and entered. "Maybe he's asleep already?" He could just be tired from leaving yesterday.
Still trying to think positively, finally, Hendramo entered the house and immediately headed for the dining table. He was already feeling so hungry and exhausted that he felt like he might lose consciousness at any moment. However, what he saw there definitely made his body feel weaker than before. He, who is usually greeted by a variety of food, is now faced with an empty table without anything on it. The plates that are usually under the serving lid are now neatly arranged on the plate rack. Hendramo couldn't understand what he was seeing at all.
Feeling something was wrong, Hendramo immediately checked the fridge and made sure there was food in there. His hopes were dashed when he saw that the contents were empty; there were only raw materials to be used the next day. He felt sure if he gave money to Niar—enough to meet their monthly needs—he wouldn't have to work or do anything like this. Feeling his blood boil with anger, Hendramo finally decided to cook instant noodles.
"Father?"  Nina, who had woken up, walked towards Hendramo, who was eating brutally. Since one pack wasn't enough, she even went so far as to cook two, thinking that it would satisfy her stomach, which had been rebelling since the afternoon, and relieve some of her tiredness.
“Nina?  "Awakened by Father?” She shook her head.
"Why eat that?"
Hendramo glanced at the half-finished noodles. “Just... because you want to?” Although still young, Nina, of course, did not believe in that expression. He made an annoyed expression at Hendramo for being lied to. “That... your mother still isn't home, and I can't find anything to eat.”
“Eh?  Mom isn't home? Mama said she was going to sleep after cooking for Dad. Nina's words made Hendramo stop chewing. He immediately raised his head to look at Nina, confirming what he had heard. "Sis Nadine is also asleep, so we don't hear that Mama really wants to go out."
“Hmm…  I see.  Nina, go back to sleep, okay?”
Nina could see that the expression on her father's face had changed. He swallowed hard before nodding his head and agreeing to Hendramo's wish. He felt like he would again hear the fight between his mother and father. For Nina, that was not something she wanted to hear at all. The fight had managed to frighten him and make him feel doubtful. Are they getting a divorce? Or will their family collapse? Questions like that are often questioned by Nina.
Hendramo himself, who couldn't hold back his anger, immediately finished the food in his bowl. His eyes were fiery and showed how irritated he was with Niar. I don't know how long Hendramo has to wait for Niar. When he was almost asleep from exhaustion, he finally heard the sound of the front door opening and Niar entering. Her make-up was completely different from her usual self, like she was trying to impress someone.
Niar, who was taking off her heels, was initially unaware of Hendramo's presence. When she raised her head, she realised that her husband was standing in front of her. His hands were folded in front of his chest, and his expression was not pleasant at all to look at. Niar immediately averted his eyes and tried to escape Hendramo's gaze. Why now?  How could he be found out now?
"Where have you been?" asked Hendramo curtly. He didn't usually use that kind of tone. Niar swallowed his saliva, but his gaze was still diverted in another direction. "Why don't you cook for me before you go?"
"I thought you had eaten out with the client because you were going home late."
"Is that a reason not to cook?" A question like that was like the end of the road for Niar to dodge. He was silent for a long time before he finally let out a loud chuckle, trying to get Hendramo's attention and distract him from continuing his anger.
"Forgive me.  Things like this won't happen again. "Rather than spending your energy scolding me, it would be better if you took a shower and rested right away, right?” Niar immediately took off the jacket that Hendramo was still wearing. "I promise I won't do this again."
Even though he said that, Hendramo didn't trust Niar at all. He could only continue to frown and purse his lips. It is clear that he is hiding something, and he will try hard to reveal Niar's very strange actions.
