Anu stood there crying. Righteous held her hand and squeezed it, to show that she was with her in this hour of pain.
A nurse asked her briskly, "Are you his wife?"
Without waiting for her to reply, she told her to see the doctor on duty who will tell her what to do.
Both Anu and Righteous went to the doctor's office. On reaching there, they saw the doctor attending to one of his patients. They decided to wait outside, but he used his hand to tell them to sit.
"Hello Madam, I'm sure you are here in respect of your husband, Mr. Femi Badmus. Please sit down and I will attend to you very soon."
"Okay sir. But can my friend stay with me?" Anu asked.
"Hmmm, she can wait outside, please."
"Ha, please doctor, she is not her husband, just a friend." Righteous spoke for Anu.
"Wow, why can't you allow your friend to speak for herself. Is she not of age? Please, do wait outside, if you don't mind."
Righteous went out reluctantly, she squeezed her face, pouted her lips, and rolled her eyes in deep protest, but all were ignored by the doctor.
Soon he dismissed his patient and beckoned to her to sit on the chair, right before him.
"Okay Madam, you will need to make a deposit of two hundred thousand naira to commence the necessary treatment."
"Ha! OMG! I'm an ordinary student, being sponsored by one philanthropist. I only have twenty thousand naira sir. Please help me. Start his treatment sir."
"This is not a charity organization, but a hospital, private hospital. Go straight to the cashier and make your payment, if you don't want to lose him." He said coldly.
Anu thought of calling Barrister Babajide Badmus, to beg for money, but she thought otherwise. Who will help in this situation? He doesn't know his relatives at all. Maybe she could call Bayo. But she vowed to stay away from him. Who to call became a problem.
"Are you supposed to be here?" The doctor asked. Anu did not know the time she knelt down, holding the man's trouser, tears flowing freely.
"What do you want from me, young woman?" He growled.
"Sir, I don't know this Femi very well. He only came to greet me. Please can you give me his phone to check for any of his relatives?"
"Are you kidding me or what?"
"I'm serious sir."
Doctor Sam looked at her and saw this innocence in her.
"Hmm, okay I will help you." He uttered at last.
"Heh, thank you very much sir. I'm grateful."
"But on one condition".
"I will do anything for you sir. I can wash your clothes, sweep your compound. Yes, help me." Anu declared, excitedly without giving a good thought to what she said. She was confused.
"Yeah, anything you say?" Doctor Sam gazed at her and saw a beautiful lady to have for the weekend.
After all his wife had travelled out of the country for shopping. She is a business woman, who cared only for her business. She often leaves the man in the cold. They have just a child who is in the secondary school at the boarding house.
"Yes sir, anything." But Anu heart skipped twice, and she sensed danger. Anything is anything.
Doctor Sam got up quickly from his seat, and raised Anu up. Then he rushed to the door and locked up with key, removed the key and placed in one of the shelves.
Turning to Anu, he said with a smirk on his face, "Remove your dress now!" A deadly order.
"Anu yelled, rushed to the door and started to bang it, crying for help.
"No need for all this. You asked for it, young lady. You agreed to anything, remember! A promise is a debt. Now, do as I say!" Doctor Sam ordered, his face was deadly.
Suddenly, Anu started to laugh like a crazy woman to the surprise of the doctor.
"What's wrong with this lady now! Am I in need of a mad woman?"
"Hmm, Doctor,come over here and let's have a quickie." Anu uttered, her face distorted, her eyes like a blazing fire, as if possessed by a hundred demons.
She rushed at the doctor to tear his shirt, the doctor pushed her away, ran to the shelf, got the key and opened the door. Anu started to laugh sheepishly.
"Hey, see the doctor that wanted to sleep with me. Come now!" She giggled.
Righteous who had been waiting for her friend rushed in and was surprised to see her friend, whose contenance had changed.
"What did you do to my friend, Doctor!"
"Please take her away." He growled.
"Not on your life. Tell me the truth" Righteous yelled.
"Okay calm down, I think your friend has suffered tremendously in time past. Was she ever a rape victim?"
"Yes sir. She told me her past."
"Okay, I will help you calm her down."
"You better do so. Now I know what happened. You tried to force her, isn't it?"
"No, no, I mean that it's not true."
"You despicable liar. Return my friend to normal."
"Yes, sure I will do so. Just calm down. I will make her sleep and that will do the magic." Doctor Sam said.
