Chapter 7

"So what's the code?" Lay asked. Jevan looked at the corpse again before his gaze softened...
He harshly looks at them. "2444..."
Dane and Lay look at each other sharing the same thoughts.
"What do you mean?" Lay asked. He felt chilled when a strong wind brushed into his body.
Jevan sighed. He wasn't sure about this but it was better to give it a try than nothing. "First didn't you remember I was asked a question from him before?" He said Dane and Lay were looking at each other while frowning.
"I can't remember anything what's that question?" Dane asked Jevan sighed again.
"He wants to help me with anything right because of the good deed we did to him so I tell them about a murder case... My parents a total of 2 people.." Lay gulped for a minute, his mouth half open.
"Woah we get it so what about the 444?" Lay asked. Dane was staring at Jevan, trying to figure out what running inside his mind. He can see sadness the emotion that is visible in his eyes.
"He tells us something before he goes right? That something about assurance in life that our path was right." Once again Dane and Lay look at each other.
"I tried to search for it after he said that before because I know there's a meaning in his mind but I can't find anything unless I found it's number meaning." Jevan looked around before he looked again at them.
"We need to enter his office, he already planned this it means he knows who killed him, and he knows this day will happen. We should find out who killed him and also about the case of my brother," Jevan said. Lay widened his eyes before ehiñe rushed to hold Jevan's wrist
"You're kidding right?! Jevan you're out of your mind, are you?! We know the risk of this if we continue! I-if someone murder the detective we should let the officer do their job! I-I help you... I will beg my father and brother to open this case, also they will find you brother—" Lay already panicking but Jevan widened his eyes and couldn't believe what he was hearing from his friend. He can hardly pull his hand from him.
"And what?! I can't trust them anymore! Those police officers didn't listen when my parent died! I keep waiting days, months and years until they close the case like only a fly who died! Do you think they will focus on it?!" Lay was shaken by Jevan when he started to shout.
"Do you think your father or brother will focus on it? I don't have any money, I don't have anything for my parents' cases I was always waiting! Now I'm not sitting here waiting for my brother to die. He's the only family I have..." Jevan and Lay look at the ground pursing their lips.
Jevan was able to speak again when a hand pulled them. Both of them look at Dane who's not bothering with the situation.
"Let's get out of here, this area is restricted," he said but Jevan pulled his hand.
"We can't. We should dig a grave for him before we go," he said. Lay was still silent but Dane sighed to surrender and nodded.
"Let's get faster." Dane rushed to get something on the grass while Jevan and Lay looked at him.
Dane pulls a hoe into it. When Lay and Jevan saw that their eyes started widening. "Hey, what was that?!" Jevan shouted but Dane gave him a straight face.
"I don't know, I just saw it here I think someone left this behind," he said before raising the hoe. "Oh guys there's blood in it."
Jevan rushed to go near him and Lay followed him. "Do you think they use it to kill someone?" Lay asked shivering. Dane just shrugged.
"Maybe, but let's get going. We will be in trouble if someone sees us," Dane answered. He walked toward the detective's corpse and lifted him. Jevan and Lay wince while watching him carrying the corpse like it was nothing.
Dane can feel their gaze behind but he chooses to ignore them instead he puts the corpse again behind him, which he tries to dig.
Dane was doing his job but Jevan and Lay were trying to help him by alternately digging the ground.
After half an hour, they finally dug a perfect hole to be the grave of the detective.
Dane lifts the corpse and puts it there before they bring back the soil to the hole.
After that, Dane threw the hoe somewhere far from there before deciding to go.
Before that Jevan whispered. "I promise we'll continue your case...."
-
"Is this the right way?" Jevan asked feeling his feet a bit itchy like him, Lay was rubbing his legs.
Then as got back to where Dane parked his car.
"Umm," Lay whispered Jevan looked at him but Lay a deep sigh. "I'm sorry. I was terrified of this... I'm not brave like you, and I'm not strong like Dane that's why I said that..." Jevan stopped walking even Dane who was in front stopped before turning around where the two were.
"You're right. We shouldn't stay still, you're my friend, I should agree to this," he said. Dane stared at them before he shook his head and continued walking.
Jevan lips form a smile as he nods. "No need to apologize, It was me who got you into this but thank you for being with me." Both of them clap their right hand and smile.
"Let's get going," Lay said and Jevan agreed they rushed to follow Dane.
After a little longer they finally saw the car from not far away.
They were about to feel relief but something happened. Dane stopped walking while looking at the ground.
Lay and Jevan who's following him gaze where he's looking. Both of them jump and shout at what they do.
Three corpses lay in the ground inside the forest, wearing a police uniform.
Without a warning, Dane harshly looks at them rushes to grab their hand and starts to run.
"There's someone here!" He said. Lay and Jevan didn't ask any questions instead they ran with him.
"Hey!!" A shout from behind but they didn't stop or look.
"BEND!"
