Chapter 1: A Departure Nancy stood in the dimly lit living room, her suitcase by the door, her heart heavy with a mixture of excitement and sadness. The clock on the wall ticked away the final moments she had with her family before embarking on a journey that would take her thousands of miles away. Her mother, Carmen, her father, Juan, and her 6-year-old daughter, Besilda, gathered around her. Carmen wiped a tear from her eye and held Nancy's hands. "Be strong, my daughter. We'll miss you so much." Nancy choked back her own tears and replied, "I will, Mama. This is for all of us, for a better future." Besilda, oblivious to the complexity of the moment, tugged at Nancy's shirt. "Mama, when will you come back? I'll miss you." Nancy knelt down to her daughter's level and hugged her tightly. "I promise, I'll come back soon, and we'll be together again. You'll be a big girl by then." Besilda looked up at her with big, innocent eyes, filled with trust. "Okay, Mama." Juan, Nancy's father, cleared his throat, trying to keep his emotions in check. "Nancy, take care of yourself. And remember, your family is here for you, always." Nancy nodded, her voice shaky. "I know, Papa. I'll make you proud." As they shared their final family embrace, a honk from outside signaled the arrival of the taxi that would take Nancy to the airport. She pulled away from her family and wiped away her tears. Nancy looked at her parents and Besilda, her heart aching as she tried to memorize every detail of their faces. "I love you all," she said. The family exchanged one last set of tearful goodbyes, and then Nancy picked up her suitcase and headed towards the door. As she opened it, the bright Saudi Arabian sun greeted her. She paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and stepped out, leaving her home and loved ones behind. Inside the taxi, the reality of her departure began to sink in. She watched through the window as familiar streets and landmarks passed by. Carmen sat beside her, gripping her hand tightly. Carmen, always a source of strength, offered words of encouragement. "You're doing this for Besilda, for all of us," Carmen said. "Remember to stay strong and never forget where you come from." Nancy nodded, her eyes filled with determination. "I won't, Mama. I'll make sure she has a better future." The taxi soon arrived at the airport. Nancy and Carmen unloaded her luggage and stood in front of the departure gates. It was a bustling scene with people from all walks of life coming and going. The constant chatter of various languages filled the air. As Nancy waited in line to check in her luggage, she struck up a conversation with a friendly fellow traveler. His name was Ahmed, a middle-aged man who had been working in Saudi Arabia for years. He could see the mix of emotions in Nancy's eyes. Ahmed said, "Don't worry, young lady. You'll find good people here, and you'll be fine." Nancy smiled, appreciating his reassuring words. "Thank you, Ahmed. I hope so." The line moved forward, and it was time for Nancy to say her final goodbyes to her mother. They hugged tightly, their tears flowing freely. Carmen handed Nancy a small envelope. "For emergencies," Carmen said, her voice trembling. "And a little extra for Besilda." Nancy accepted the envelope with gratitude. "Thank you, Mama. I'll call you as soon as I can." Besilda tugged on Nancy's shirt, looking up with wide eyes. "Mama, don't forget me." Nancy bent down and kissed her daughter's forehead. "Never, my love. I'll think of you every day." After the tearful farewells, Nancy moved through security and entered the departure area. She found a quiet corner and took out her phone, dialing Alfredo's number. He answered on the second ring, his voice tinged with anxiety. "Nancy, are you okay? Have you boarded the plane?" Nancy replied, "I'm at the airport, Alfredo. I've checked in my luggage. Please take care of Besilda and tell her I love her every day." Alfredo assured her, "I will, Nancy. We'll be okay. You focus on your work, and we'll be waiting for you to come back." Nancy felt a mix of relief and sadness. She said her final goodbyes to Alfredo and ended the call. Then, she made her way to the departure gate, where her flight to Saudi Arabia was about to begin boarding. As she settled into her seat on the plane, the engine roared to life, and the aircraft began to taxi towards the runway. Nancy stared out of the window, watching the familiar landscape of her hometown grow smaller and smaller. She knew that her journey to Saudi Arabia marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life, one filled with challenges, but also with hope for a brighter future for her family. With a heavy heart and a determined spirit, Nancy said her silent goodbye to her homeland as the plane took off, carrying her towards the unknown.
