Chapter 26

"You look gorgeous in your dress, Yvette." Rhea plastered a fake smile.
"Thank you, mom. Who else can I inherit from?" Yvette was having fun with her Mama Rhea. "Did you change your perfume?" she commented.
"Doesn't it smell good?" said Rhea.
"Mama, I bet it smells better than before. The smell of your stuff is stronger now," Yvette replied.
"It made me think that it's been too long since I've changed my perfume. I've become too comfortable with what I use. Sometimes because we're so complacent, we miss out on other things." Rhea took a goblet with champagne from the waiter. "Thank you for this," she said while drinking.
"A-Are you okay, mom?" Yvette asked with a frown.
"Y-YES, I'M FINE. Wait, where is your boyfriend?" Rhea looked around. She pretended to be looking for Jackson but the truth is, she was looking for Jacob.
"He's still not here, mom," Yvette replied.
"Oh okay. Call me when he's here. I'll talk to our other guests first." Rhea placed the serving plate brought by the waiter without the goblet. She was about to leave when Yvette suddenly grabbed her by the arm. She looked at her hand holding her arm. "Do you need something?" she asked.
"Mom, I'm sorry." Yvette's face was full of sincerity.
"You're sorry? For what?" Rhea removed Yvette's hand from her arm and faced her properly.
"I'm sorry if I chose to love the man who killed your husband and daughter," Yvette said bowing.
"You finally realized it," Rhea said with a laugh. "The truth is, I was surprised when you introduced Jackson to us as your boyfriend. I thought you had forgotten what he did to me. Anyway, there is nothing I can do if you love Jackson. I know that your heart cannot be taught who it must be loved. I can accept him as a son-in-law but don't expect me to treat him well. You know how deeply I hate that person. If I am true to you, my daughter, I will never allow you to fall to a criminal but since you are not my biological daughter, I will give you my blessing. What right do I have to stop you? You did not come from my uterus?" she said smiling.
Yvette was hurt by what she heard. She knew what her mom said was true but her system still couldn't accept it. She felt that her eyes were getting hot so she looked up slightly to stop the forming tears. She still tried to smile despite her feelings.
"T-thank you, mom. Thank you for accepting me and Jackson." Yvette's voice almost cracked. Rhea just smiled at her and then she left.
Yvette called one of the waiters and she got a glass and poured champagne into it.
"Why did you put so little? Fill it up!" Yvette said, annoyed.
"I-I thought it was because..." the waiter said nervously.
"Are you going to answer? Do you want to lose your job?" Yvette exclaimed.
"N-no. I'll fill it up. S-sorry," said the waiter.
Yvette looked around and smiled at the guests who were looking at her.
"Come with me to the kitchen," Yvette whispered to the waiter.
Yvette feels very angry because of her mother and it looks like she is about to take her anger out on someone. When she and the waiter reached the kitchen, she locked the door. She took the bottle of champagne the waiter was holding and poured it rudely.
"Thank you and that's all I did to you. After all, I can afford to buy your entire personality...I can fire you from your job. Next time, do your job properly! Is it clear?" shouted Yvette.
The waiter clenched his hands. Later, he threw the serving plate he was holding with the cups on the floor. He also threw the empty bottle of champagne on the floor.
"You don't have the right to insult me. It's not because I'm a waiter, you're just going to treat me like this. I don't care if I lose my job. I can find another job somewhere else. What I can't accept is that, an ADOPTED DAUGHTER who's too self-centered, insulted my character. Where do you think you would be today if the girl you were talking to earlier didn't adopt you? Maybe you're even poorer than me," said the waiter.
Yvette was stunned by what the man did. She could hardly believe what had happened. "Don't you know me?" she said with wide eyes.
"No. Who are you?" responded by the waiter.
Yvette was so annoyed that she screamed. "Get out of my face. RIGHT NOW!"
"You don't have to kick me out because I hate your behavior. Too bad." The waiter looked at Yvette from head to toe. "You're beautiful but you're inside smells like rotten garbage," he said.
Yvette blushed and glared at the waiter. Her eyes caught his nameplate. "Tamahome," she said. "Are you Japanese?" Yvette laughed out loud.
The waiter shook his head and took off his wet uniform.
"W-what are you doing?" said Yvette while covering her eyes.
"Undressing. Are you blind?" replied Tamahome.
"Bastard! Don't undress here. This is not a dressing room!" shouted Yvette. She wiggled her fingers a little. She bit her lip when she saw the sexy body of the waiter Tamahome. "Looks yummy," she whispered.
"Miss, don't cover your eyes. You still see me," Tamahome said with a laugh.
Yvette's cheeks suddenly turned red. She did not understand why she suddenly felt better. The wind seemed to carry away the annoyance and anger she was feeling earlier.
Before Tamahome completely left the kitchen, he said something to Yvette.
"Don't try to be someone else. Don't force yourself on people who don't see your worth. Not all rich people are happy and not all poor people suffer."
Yvette was stunned. Only then did she notice that she was holding Tamahome's wet uniform including his nameplate.
"Why do I feel like I know him?" she said, unconsciously.
