Chapter 41

["You need to get out of there, now! Set is moving. Let Don Vandolf live. I still need him."]
"I already injected one, b–"
["Move! Do you want to be deported? Do you want to be imprisoned?"]
"Copy. I'll get going." The fake nurse quickly put away her belongings. She first peeked to see if there was anyone in the hospital corridor before she hurried out of Don Vandolf's room. When she met a nurse she nodded and then quickly walked towards the elevator, but… "Shít! He's already here!"
The fake nurse quickly changed direction. She just took the stairs instead of taking the elevator. She always looks behind her. When she saw that no one was following her, she was relieved. She removed the facemask she was wearing. She also took off the uniform she was wearing.
"Finally, I can get rid of these!" the fake nurse said as she dumped her blue scrubs in the trash. She also removed her wig and makeup.
Meanwhile, Set came panting to Don Vandolf's room. He immediately looked at the Holter Monitor. It is a type of portable electrocardiogram (ECG) which records the electrical activity of the heart continuously over 24 hours. Set breathed a sigh of relief when he saw from the Holter Monitor that it was not a flatline. He took out his cell phone and immediately called Jacob.
["Oh, Set, why did you call me? We are already on our way to the hospital. How's papa?"]
"Sir Jacob, someone tried to kill senior while I was away," Set reported. He moved his cell phone away from his ear when Jacob suddenly honked his horn at the same time, he also heard his loud sermon.
["I ALREADY TOLD YOU! YOU MUST NOT LEAVE HIM AT ALL COSTS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING SETYEMBRE? ARE YOU HUNGRY OR ARE YOU SLEEPY? YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I TOLD YOU! IT'S VERY SIMPLE, SET! IT WAS VERY SIMPLE!"]
Set heard Freya's voice on the other line.
["Jacob, calm down. Your yelling and your temper won't do anything. Set, how's papa? He's okay, right?"]
Set was stunned. He didn't know what to answer because Don Vandolf was still unconscious.
["When something bad happens to papa, you will be responsible to me…Setyembre!"]
'Senior, please. Wake up now. I will never forgive myself if something happens to you, senior. Please, wake up,' Set yelled on his mind.
[SETYEMBRE, HOW'S DADDY? WHY ARE YOU NOT ANSWERING OUR QUESTIONS? FÚCK, SET! FIXED YOURSELF!"]
Set heard Freya telling Jacob again from the other line. He didn't realize that he was crying.
When Jacob heard Set sobbing, he immediately pulled the car over to the side of the road. He tried to calm himself down. He took a deep breath before he spoke. ["Set, why are you crying? Where's papa? Can I talk to him?"]
"He's not conscious yet, but it's not a flatline that appears on the monitor," Set responded, sobbing.
["Did you call the doctor? Isn't there a nurse on duty there?"]
Set was speechless. He blamed himself for what happened. He couldn't even think properly because of his overflowing emotions. Fear gripped his entire system. He knelt down to the hospital bed where Don Vandolf was lying. He bent down as he slowly groped his master's hand. When he held one of his hands, he cried even more.
"Senior...Please forgive me. I'm really stupid! I'm a fúcking failure! If something bad happens to you, I am going to take my own life. It hurts me that you probably won't be here for much longer, but nothing will hurt more if you will die because of my negligence. Please, senior, wake up." Set's tears continued to fall as he still held the old Gray's hand.
"I'm not dead yet, why are you crying?"
Set looked up quickly when he heard Don Vandolf's voice. He was so happy that he was able to hug him.
"Thank you so much, senior! Thank you so much for waking up!" Set said tearfully.
"I just fell asleep. What are you talking about?" said Don Vandolf with a frown.
"I thought it was because..."
"What is it? I'm not a fortune teller, Set," said Don Vandolf.
"I thought you were comatose again," answered Set.
"Why am I comatose? The machines and medicine here are complete. The doctors and nurses are also good. I'm not paying them for nothing, Set." Don Vandolf pushes Set. He doesn't want someone hugging him.
"I'm sorry, senior. I got carried away." Set immediately wiped his tears. He fixed himself before he bowed. "I'm sorry, senior. It won't happen again," he added.
Don Vandolf smiled. "Alright. I know you are already hungry. Eat first," he said.
"No, senior. I am going to wait for Sir Jacob and Ma'am Freya to arrive before I leave. I won't leave you alone again," said Set.
"It's alright. I'm fine. I can handle myself," insisted Don Vandolf.
'So? You can't even stand, senior!' Set thought. He shook his head.
Don Vandolf took a deep breath. "Fine. I will give what you want but... you just stay outside and watch. The nurse will come later. She will give me medicine soon."
"Next time, senior." Set did not narrate what had happened earlier because he didn't want to add to Don Vandolf's thoughts and stress.
"Good man," Don Vandolf said.
When Set left Don Vandolf's room, the old man's smile immediately disappeared.
"I didn't know that the enemy would still follow me here in Florida. I need to know who that woman is and who’s that Poncio Pilato she was talking to earlier. Am I too bad? There are so many people who want to hurt and kill me. Even the one above wants me to disappear too," whispered Don Vandolf.
Don Vandolf raised his eyebrows when he noticed something under his blanket. He immediately took it. His eyebrows met at what he saw. "Airplane keychain?" He laughed and threw the keychain in the nearest trash can. "I thought there was a clue. There's no point."
