Chapter sixty three

#####63
Charles parked in front of my home and went in with me.
"Why are you following me inside?" I asked.
"Nothing special. Just wanted to spend a week with you here." he answered.
"Really? Why?"I questioned.
"The court case against your parents and Kira will be holding in a week and two days so I might as well spend time with you here." Kris answered.
I folded my arms and walked away from him.
"Hey? What's wrong?" Kris asked.
I stopped walking.
"You are only staying here to have something to waste time on while waiting for the court case." I answered him.
"Haha. It's not like that Kendra. I also want to spend time with you." Kris said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yes really." he answered.
"Okay. I believe you." I said and turned back.
"Go change your clothes and come right back down. I want to prepare something special." Kris told me.
I went up the stairs to my room and changed clothes then washed off the make-up which was still on my face since the miracle wedding, as I now call it.
Going back to the living room, I couldn't spot Kris then it came to my mind immediately that he said he was going to prepare something special.
Food.
I leaped to the kitchen and saw him searching for something in a cupboard.
"What are you looking for?" I asked him.
"The..." he said, still searching seriously for whatever it was.
"The salt! Yes! Found it!" he said, enthusiastically.
"What are you cooking?" I asked him.
"My mother's signature soup of course." Kris answered.
"Sounds awesome. I can't wait." I said.
"Well well well." Kris said, giving me a look from the corner of his eyes.
"What?" I asked.
"Oh... Nothing. I just felt like saying that." Kris replied and and laughed.
I pushed his shoulder playfully.
"Silly you." I said.
I watched Kris carefully as he cooked with focus and time came to turn of the stove.
"The soup is ready." Kris said.
He brought out two bowls and fetched, with a soup spoon, some soup from inside the pot.
"Smells wonderful." I said.
Kris gave me mine and took his in his hands as we both entered the dining room.
My eyes sparkled and I felt butterflies in my stomach the moment I had the first taste of the soup.
"Oh my goodness. This is the best soup I have ever tasted in my life!" I exclaimed.
"I really did that well?" Kris asked.
"No no. You did way more than just well. This soup is amazing. Your mom is truly amazing." I said, in a heart full of joy, as I ate more.
"I'm glad you feel that way. She... She's actually dead now." Kris said, causing me to pause when I was about to put another spoon full of soup into my mouth.
"Oh..." I said, sitting upright and putting the spoon down.
"Really sorry. I didn't know." I said, feeling saddened.
"Don't be. It's in the past now." Kris told me.
I kept quiet, feeling the intensity in the room.
"Come on Kendra. Let's eat before the soup gets cold." Kris said, in a happy tone and started to dig in and I followed suit.
... A week later...
It was so fun living with Kris again, even if it was Mr and Mrs Donaldson's mansion.
It was just two days left to the day that I'm to go to court with Kris. He had gone out for work again. Living with me didn't mean he wouldn't go to work.
I turned on the television to watch news as I was advised to keep doing by Kris just incase there was something important or some needed information.
I relaxed on the sofa then tuned in to the news but quickly got bored and switched to a cartoon. Since I was born and till this day, I always loved cartoons and I will never get fed up with them.
I heard the doorbell ring, I thought I did... I lowered the volume of the TV just to be sure and after some more seconds the doorbell rang again.
"Hold on." I said, even if the person outside would probably not have heard me.
After reaching the front door I opened it and there was no one there. I looked left and right and still saw no one.
Hm. That's strange.
I closed the door and went back to the sofa. Putting away from my mind what had just happened, I resumed watching the cartoon I had put on.
The door bell rang again and I got up once more to open it.
I opened the door and just like the first time, there was no one there. Whats happening here? I closed the door again and this time the door bell rang before I could even reach the sofa.
I opened it immediately in order to catch whoever it was in the act but even then I didn't see anyone.
Whoever it was playing this prank must have being doing it since his or her birth because that person seems to be moreth an a master at it right now.
Perhaps it was just Kris trying to mess with me?... Nahh. Kris can't do this.
I closed the door but didn't return to the sofa as I did before. I peeked through the hole on the door and waited for the person to come to full view.
I was right. The pwrson came as I expected but I couldn't see the facee of who it was. I only saw that it was a female because of the hairstyle.
The person hid behind some flower pots outside and and for me to open the door. When I didn't she came out again. Still, I didn't see her face. She was definitely doing her best to keep it hidden from view of whoever is inside.
This actually got scary for me because a stranger who wasn't even a child was the one doing it.
I quickly called Kris with my phone just in case but it didn't go through.
"The number you've dialed is switched off. Please, try again later." was the only thing I heard while the phone was still placed on my ear.
I put away the phone and decided to just catch the person red handed myself since Kris was probably very busy and didn't want anyone disturbing his work.
