The ones that were driven by jealousy and revenge failed to see that price they were about to pay for the deeds they were doing. In their blind pursuit to achieve the unachievable, they stooped low enough to make the same mistake as the former mer-queen. In their attempt at conjuring the one that was sealed deep below the ocean floor, sleeping for centuries, they forgot that they risked casualties. Casualties as in masses. They had trespassed the border between the dead and the living. The thin membrane that kept the world of the deceased and the immortal shifter clans separate, had been tampered with. The ones that had grouped together, posing as victims of discrimination, were no less than villains. But what was worse was that they were all naive and ignorant thick heads. They were trying to awaken the one that marked the border between the dead and the living. They thought that the poison that was spreading was toxin. They thought it was merely some venom that they would do away with. The ignorant fools had no knowledge. They had no way of knowing that ,what was seeping-in, was no venom or poison that got leaked. It was the toxicity from the inhabitants of the afterlife. The world of the afterlife, for the mortals and the immortals were very different. The mortals went straight to the netherworld where they went through the cycle of rebirth and redemption but for the immortal souls, the journey was very different. They had several stages and phases in which they spent their life after death. The first stage or the first tier, being the one where the Rivers of the underworld cleansed their souls and separated the ones still holding grudges or the ones still trapped by their malicious desires. The rest then moved on to the next stage of purification, in the Eternal fire. Only a handful were blessed with the privilege of entering, directly into the primordial world because of their exceptional good works. The one marking the border between the dead and the living was known as the Great Serpent. One would think he was some sort of a guard or guardian. However the case was completely opposite to that. He was once a very honorable person, ruling over the Northern peripheral realms. He was born to a bird mother but nobody knew the whereabouts of his biological father. His mother, was the only daughter of the chief Priest and was naturally declared the head Prietress after the sudden death of her father, right after her miraculous son took birth. Nobody had any doubt or malicious intent towards the boy that was born, neither did anybody question his birth because they all thought it was a divine intervention. The boy naturally grew into a fine specimen. He led his tribe to glory and to the heights that was unachievable. Things were all going good till the day the wolves knocked at their door. Those were the times of trouble. And they got ready to defend their lands, in every way possible. The boy had no clue about his own whereabouts. He had no idea who his father was. One such night when he was out in the woods, searching for answers and looking for ways to save his people, he was visited my someone. " Fear not my boy. I come in peace. Just stay put and listen me. Listen to me so you and your tribe can keep breathing. " The boy went on guard immediately. " Who is it? Show yourself or bear the consequences... " He yelled. " You will not believe me if I say that we are connected biologically. Your mother and I, hail from rival species. And you were the fruit of a sweet miracle. " He hissed. The boy was stunned but he knew the voice had already aroused his curiosity. " What do you mean? How did you know my mother? I order you, come forth and face me like a man. Otherwise I will not let you leave our bird territory. You will be trapped here for all eternity. " He dared. The voice only hissed. It hissed and laughed simultaneously. " That would infact be very good for me little fool. This land is nothing sort of a paradise for me with unlimited source of my favourite food. Sweet birdies... " And he made the creepiest sound of clicking his tongue on his lips. It sent a shiver down the boy's spine as well. " We are a kind of species, that eat our own young ones. " And slowly the voice appeared before the boy. A sly face with scales all over his forhead and nostril. His eyes slit with a reptilian gaze. As he smirked, the boy could clearly see his retractable fangs flash for a second and his forked tongue went in and out in a flash, as if tasting the air around them. " You are scared. Don't be. I can taste your fear. It's contaminating the air. " He came a bit closer and it prompted the boy to run for his life. Even though, he was already an able ruler, reigning over his kingdom, reaching to the sky, in essence he was still a boy, who was yet to attain maturity. " Whoah! You are fast I see, but no bird was ever faster than me. I am the serpent king. You cannot possibly defeat me with your half bird agility. Not even your mother could do it. She slept while I f*cked her all night, till the early morning. She was completely knocked out with my poison.I could have smashed her skull and eaten her immediately. But I fancied her little face. I wanted to see how it felt to f*ck a little birdie. I swear I had no intension of leaving my seed inside but I did. And now look at you. What a marvellous being she bore and gave birth to, for me. " He smacked his lips again as the boy flinched . The weight of his words were boring down on him and it was making him cringe at his own existence.
