Things weren't particularly in order in the immortal world. Xie became too busy with his wife. The doctors said his wife needed complete rest and care, for the sake of their unborn child. One would have believed what they said, if they didn't know the nature of the Wolf Queen. She wanted Xie out of the war zone, that she was so meticulously sculpting. Mia had become very disoriented and whatever she had found out at the Western Waters, was slipping in and out of her mind. It was the same with Boshu. He would be brooding day and night, to such an extent that Roe finally thought of asking Lin for advice. It was only then that the two of them noticed that the behavioural changes in their respective spouses, weren't due to random, mood swings. "I knew they were up to something, back on that island... but I couldn't really tell without confirmation... " Roe began but was cut short as Lin suddenly stood up, shoving the chair forward. " What do I need to do to gain Mia's trust? Am I not good enough for a husband? Why does she need to hide things from me? Why does she always think she has to solve everything by herself. " Roe stood up as well and placed her hand over Lin's shoulder. " It's in our wolf blood Lin. Don't take it personal. We are born very independent, even though we prefer hunting in packs. " Before they could carry on with their conversation a huge commotion, caused them both to run outside. They were in the wolf kingdom and two of the Royal wolf guards, came running towards them, with a lot of distress prominent in their facial expressions. " What is it? " Roe and Lin, ran towards them. They looked lost for words as they stared at each other . " Come on now, don't keep looking like that? What happened? " But Lin couldn't wait for them to answer. He had to find out. He shoved them away and sprinted off towards where the commotion was. Roe ran after him as well. They were headed towards the Ancient Well. It was never used as a water source because the wolves believed it was a pathway to communicate with their ancestors. It was usually deserted and abandoned most of the time, only to be used during the Full Moons. " Step aside... I said... STEP ASIDE... " Lin yelled as panic struck his soul. He couldn't miss Mia's scent for anything in the world, especially when it was from that damned hole. " Boshu... Mia? I can smell both of them from down there... are they? ... " Roe couldn't complete her sentence when an old onlooker added, " They both jumped inside that well in front of our eyes. Together. Holding hands. " The man's voice trembled as he spoke. Lucky for him that the crowd began to disperse with the announcement of the Wolf King approaching. From look that Lin and Roe was giving him, he wouldn't have been able to leave in one piece. " What is all the commotion about? " The Wolf King's voice bellowed as Roe turned towards him, " Father, Mia and Boshu are down there. " But Lin was gone. He had already jumped down the slippery slope, not knowing where it was supposed to leave him though. " Brings the chains down. Now. Bring the ladders you morons, don't just keep standing there. " He could hear the Wolf King shout out once more. The deeper Lin fell the cooler the air grew, as if there was an opening at the end but all he could see or make out was reflection form the water, deep deep down the well. When he had crossed almost more than what seemed like half the distance, Lin began hearing whispers. He couldn't make out the words or the language but he could clearly hear them. Lin tried to break his fall by clawing his nails at several places in the wall. He noticed there were to her claw marks present of the walls. And those looked very vivid. Almost like an engraving. Finally he found he was no longer falling but his feet was touching the ground. It was as if he was levitating. The water was right there but something was pushing him up, keeping him from touching the holy water. It was as if he was flying over that spot, hovering. " Lin can you hear me.... " It was Roe. Her voice was very distant but it was still clearer than those whispers. " I.... I am fine but... " " But what? " " I can't see them. Besides, I can't land on my feet. I am hovering down here. " " What? Wait. I'm coming.... " And with that Lin could hear the sounds of heavy metals. They were lowering the chains down for Roe to come down. It seemed like it took Roe forever to close the distance. The chain also fell short. " How much further down is the water? " Roe asked, hanging upside down. " I don't know. It didn't seem like the well was that deep. But those chains go down till the ocean beds. Why are they falling short. " Lin wondered. " Did you try calling their names? " Roe asked. Lin shook his head . After successive attempts at trying to summon them, nothing actually happened. Only their echos came back. " I think both of you should come out. There is something else going on here. I need to call your father Lin and we need to call our prietsts and shamans as well. " The wolf king ordered when Roe relayed the information back on the surface. Lin was reluctant. He was not leaving without his Mia, at all. But he had to finally succumb to the Wolf King's demand when he understood that he was being unreasonable. There indeed was something going on. Something big. It had started from the Western Waters. But unfortunately, like always, he had failed to notice it like always. His wife was suffering, yet he didn't know her pain. He failed her again.
