CHAPTER 1: The Agreement
"No! I don't want to go to Sylvan!" Princess Marianne shouted to her father. "No, you need to go there to meet the prince," her father explained. "Why do I need to meet the prince, father?" she asked. "It's for you, to make a new friend," her father responded. "No! I don't want any friends!" she exclaimed. In her room, the 10-year-old princess tried her best to refuse her father's request to visit the prince. "FATHER, I DON'T UNDERSTAND!" she shouted. When her father heard it, he let out a big sigh. "Marianne, I know you're too young to understand this, but we really need to visit the prince this time, okay? Just follow your father," he explained. Marianne still wasn't convinced until her mother entered the room. "What's going on?" her mother asked. Her father, named Vale, approached his wife, named Elena. "Elena, you know why I'm doing this," he said gently. Elena then sighed, "I know, but is it really necessary?" she asked. "Elena, you see, the war is still ongoing in our kingdom, and we aren't getting any better; it's time to surrender," he explained. "By sacrificing your own daughter to the enemy?" Elena asked, striking Vale's heart. "There's nothing we could do, Elena," he said. "If we aren't going to do it, our people, including us, will fall together," he added. Elena then sits down on the bed and sighs. "Vale, I entrust to you our child. I hope that the war will end soon," she said while hugging Marianne tightly. "I promise you, the war will end soon," he assured. "If we are not going to do this, our kingdom will slowly be defeated. Marianne is the only hope we could hold on to," he said. "Vale, I don't want to do this, but I hope you're doing what's right," Elena responded. Vale let out a deep sigh and knelt down in front of Elena, crying. "I don't know what I should do next, Elena. Please forgive me," Vale cried out. Elena gently caressed his hair. "Don't apologize to me, Vale," she said. Vale then hugged Marianne tightly. "Please forgive me, Marianne," he cried. Marianne didn't know what was going on; she just stared at her father crying so hard. Yesterday, the King of Quinlan, Vale Everhart, invited the King of Sylvan, Alexander Hawthorne, to arrange a marriage between Prince Ace and Princess Marianne. In the living room of the palace, the two kings met up and drank tea together, as if they weren't enemies. "It seems like you have learned your lesson now, Vale," Alexander started. "What lesson do you mean?" Vale asked. Alexander smirked, "Your kingdom is so precious. It was more prosperous than mine, so I planned to steal it." Vale then glared at Alexander upon hearing this. "Haa~ Because of my greediness, I forgot the scroll. Pfft, so you are willing to do it..?" Alexander asked. "When you understand it right, yes, I'm doing it," Vale responded. "Okay, so here's the plan: I will let my son mingle with your daughter for 19 years, and the war in that year will temporarily stop. I will let my son marry your daughter. However, if it fails, then I will begin a war on your kingdom again," Alexander explained. Vale then gulped gently and glared at Alexander. "So that's it...? Is it a deal, King Vale..?" Alexander said while offering a handshake to Vale. Vale ignored and stated, "So, in our contract, my daughter is allowed to visit your kingdom every weekend, and your son is allowed to visit on Wednesday and Friday. Is it a deal?" Vale said while finally accepting the handshake. Alexander then smirked at him. "Pfft, what a deal," he said teasingly. When Alexander finally leaves, Vale let out a deep sigh while on the balcony. Elena then suddenly entered the balcony and asked, "So, how's the chat?" Vale looked at his wife and smiled gently, "He gives us only 19 years," he said with a sad tone in his voice. Elena then approached him. "Don't worry, Marianne will do it for us, for the kingdom," she assured. "I hope so," Vale responded. Elena noticed that Vale was worried and looked stressed out. "Don't worry, this kingdom will soon rise up," Elena added. Vale then smiled gently, but it could be noticed in his eyes that he was genuinely worried. Elena then tapped Vale's back gently to give him support and assurance. Vale then grabbed her hand gently and kissed it. When the night came, Vale and Elena entered Marianne's room. They saw that she was already asleep. Vale and Elena then kissed her goodnight before leaving the room. When the morning came, it was Saturday, and it meant that Marianne needed to visit the prince. Elena and Vale finally persuaded her to go because they had promised to fulfill all of her wishes in the next 19 years. While heading towards the Sylvan Kingdom, Marianne suddenly asked, "Father, does the prince look creepy?" She asked. Vale chuckled gently, "I don't know, but if he is creepy, I'm sure he has a good heart," he said. "If he's creepy, kick him in the balls," her mother interrupted. Vale chuckled when he heard it. "Elena, don't teach weird stuff to our little princess!" he said. "I don't want to raise a soft princess, Vale. She needs to be strong and bold," Elena explained. "Mom, I promise to kick him hard!" Marianne exclaimed. Vale then laughed, "Look what you've done, Elena!" he said. "Yeah, make sure he's not going to be able to walk, dear," her mom added. When they arrived at the Sylvan palace, they weren't shocked or amazed to see such a big and glamorous palace, even though Alexander's palace was quite a bit better than theirs.
