Chapter 7: Sleep

Gregory closed the ample space, letting himself get close to her. The clicking sound from the removal of the seat belt enable him to distance himself from being close to Samantha’s sleeping face. Gregory didn’t want to disturbed her. He did not want to wake her up. He placed his fingers, wrapping the steering wheel of his car to get himself in the phase of letting his mind to the wonders of thinking about what he shall do next.
His eyes were on her. Gregory stared at her refined looked. Even when Samantha was asleep she was still able to emit pleasantly fresh mannerism for Gregory to look. She gave out snores that sounded too soft, low in its pitch. It was a fresh sight for Gregory to see. He let himself to prolong his gaze at her. His stare will not harm an oblivious sleeping Samantha.
Gregory took the chance as she is not wide awake. He can let himself act unmindful for a bit without the fear of the remembrance of his action from Samantha. Gregory was feeling drowsy too. Making him ready for sleep. So, Gregory did the most practical thing he could do that can benefit the both of them. He opened the car door nd turned to the other side where Samantha was. He softly opened the passenger’s door and leaned close to Samantha. He then carried her in his arms. In this way, he will not have to wait until she wakes up nor he will have to endure his drowsiness…
Samantha could not stop herself. She smiled at Grace who is sitting on the opposite side of the table. Grace was sipping the tea, gently blowing the steam of smoke from the cup. She placed the cup on the table before she smiled at Samantha.
“Are you happy?” Grace asked her.
Samantha admired her sister’s imparted renewed energy. She stared at the cup before bringing it close to her lip. Samantha took a sip of the tea. She was thinking whether she’s happy. She moved her head to stare at her sister. “I feel at peace now. After the fast-paced life changes I have been through lately. It was too fast. It’s hard to process Grace but I am quite surprised how I feel a real feeling of peace within me.”
She thought about Gregory’s face for a minute. “I don’t know what is this. Or whether it’s the right thing for me to feel this way.”
Grace stared at her. She then moved the corners of her mouth, displaying a smile filled with warmth. Her eyes looked at Samantha lovingly. “Then, will you be okay if I leave you?” Grace suddenly asked.
Samantha’s breath jagged. She was staring at her sister, feeling the confusion of Grace’s way of uttering her words. Grace showed her a gentle expression before she started to gaze at her with a reassuring smile.
“You will not be alone anymore, Sam. You finally got yourself a faithful companion.” Grace softly said, not removing the happiness from her eyes when she stared at Samantha.
Samantha’s eyes opened. “Grace.” She said it in a soft whisper. She brought herself to get up. Samantha looked around. She’s In a room. She let her eyes wander in the spacious room for more. She stared at the interiors. The room has that distinctively elegant color of black around. Samantha’s eyes went big. She remembered that Gregory.
It was a dreamlike fantasy-Grace’s appearance. Her sister has always been like a sunshine. Her existence, classic. She will always have a lasting significance. “But Grace is not saying goodbye, isn’t she? She thought as she gently touched the locket hanging around her neck. “You will still let her be with me here, right? You will not take her to be with you?” She asked.
Sam was talking as if her parents will listen to her words. That’s when she felt the liquid dripping of her eyes. Samantha started crying. Dreams are supposed to stay in the dreamland but to remember them upon your waking life can be haunting at times. Her sister has been appearing in her dreams since she had the accident. She couldn’t take it lightly. She couldn’t shake it off her. It was rough for her already to deal with the death of her parents. She doesn’t want to deal with another one.
Samantha wiped her own tears and head towards the bathroom. She need the coldness of the water to trickle down on her face. It will wake her up from trying to deal with the throbbing sadness she felt within her chest upon the reminders of her pain.
She pranced her way out of the bathroom to stare at the room once again. “Gregory indeed has the luxurious lifestyle.” She said to herself. This is not a regular condo unlike her own apartment. What Gregory has had a modern and tastefully curated one. The space is filled with elegance like its owner. Spaces like this provides an exceptional fine upscale of blending an ooze of convenient living with opulence.
What ones love, what he chooses to have for himself, is a representation of him.
Samantha’s mouth quivered with the smile that slowly crept in. Gregory is a lover of black. This is not a mere hunch for her anymore. This is the truth. He is someone who can delve into the essence of prestige because this is where he came from. His aura illuminates the aspect of a refined-lifestyle. But the man seemed to still have his feat on the ground. He still had the grace of humility in his persona.
Samantha smiled before she head out of the room to look for Gregory. She gently pulled the knob to close the door as she stepped outside of where she stayed. Her eyes then looked around. She took anther step before seeing her husband on the kitchen counter sipping a cough of coffee.
He was leaning, his right elbow remained flatly steadied above the countertop as he was reading from the paper spread below. He doesn’t looked like she noticed her so she took a step towards him, ignoring the fact that she is approaching her shirtless husband.
