45 Body Checkup

ARYA’S POV
"Arya." His same deep voice mumbled, calling my name. The first word he said was my name. Ah, I felt like it has been years since he last called my name...goodness, he was just gone for a day!
I could feel my heart bursting with happiness, and I didn't hesitate a moment as I ran to him, “Kai!”
It’s strange how I didn’t sense him at all, nor did he mind linking me!
As soon as I got near him, and before I could even embrace him, my hands flew to his cheeks.
The first thing I did was call his name and slap him. It wasn’t that strong, yet the sound of my slap was too loud and Kai was looking at me in shock.
I had never done this, well, aside from my casual hitting on him, and he must not have expected me to act like this.
“Ow, what was that for?” He complained, looking at me in disbelief.
Even Alpha Kamilah behind me was too shocked to utter a word while I glared at Kai in front of me. While Gusev was snickering, finding the situation funny.
“Ohh, you’re doomed, Alpha Kai.” He taunted Kai while Kai glared at him, which shut him up.
Kai’s eyes softened as he pulled me into an embrace, “What did I do? Talk to me, Arya.”
“What the hell are you doing here as if nothing happened?” I asked, “You just come in and act like everything was well? We were damn fighting the fowlers but where were you? You left me just because of our little argument! Alpha Ace was even in a critical condition because of you!” I poured my thoughts out, thinking how stupid Kai was.
I bit my lip, “If you’d been there, then Kira would have not been taken.”
He gulped, looking at me with so much sadness and he breathed deeply, “I know, it’s my fault, I apologize, sweetheart.”
I cringe at his endearment to me. Just one day after seeing him yet I felt strange, it was like he was a different Kai.
He pursed his lips and then looked at Alpha Kamilah, “Thank you for taking care of her, Alpha Kamilah.”
Kamilah nodded, “Yes, you’re welcome. I know the feeling of being helpless and with nothing to ask for help. As much as you didn’t help us in the war.”
Kai looked at her, “I would like to apologize for that. We were busy in our affairs….”
Kamilah scoffed, “Yeah right. But I will not hold a grudge, I am not that shallow. We already won in our fight, and that’s what matters the most.”
I nodded at that, and Kamilah flashed her smile at us, “You know I am on your side, right?”
This is the first time that I saw Alpha Kamilah in a good mood and smiling, albeit the rumors saying how expressionless and intimidatingly cold she was, which is the opposite.
Kai’s hands were snaking in my waist, and glancing at me as he gave me looks.
I raised my eyebrows and he motioned to my lips. I rolled my eyes at this damn alpha. He just came here and swept me off my feet, and asked for a kiss?
Alpha Kamilah instantly noticed Kai’s body language as she grabbed Gusev’s face, “Gusev, let’s leave this lovebird alone.”
Kai nodded, “Yes, Kamilah, Gusev, can you leave us alone for a second?”
Alpha Kamilah and Gusev looked at each other and smirked before walking away and giving us space.
Now that we are alone, Kai instantly smashed his lips unto mine, as if hungry for me and I felt his sweet kiss once again. I grabbed him by the neck as his hands roamed my whole body, igniting a torch that awakened inside me. His touch brought a feverish effect on me, electrifying me.
I couldn’t help but let out a moan under his touch, and he growled, “Ah, my sweet Arya.”
But then I remembered Alpha Ace’s condition, “This isn’t the perfect time to do this, Kai.”
He nuzzled in my neck, sniffing deeply into my scent and my ears reddened, feeling ticklish at his touch.
“We’re alone. We just see each other, don’t you miss me?” His lips touched my collarbone, and he trailed kisses from my lips to my neck, down to my collarbone and breasts, “I missed your touch, Arya. Please?” He looked up at me, his hungry eyes were patient but at the same time impatient to let his paws on me.
“Yes, but I am angry at you.”
Yet I hardened my defenses and didn’t let those puppy eyes weaken and give in, I didn’t dare succumb to his words because the matters are still not finished. Ace is still on his deathbed while his mate was captured, doesn’t he feel sorry and guilty for not being there when it happened?
Ah yes, it’s Kai that we are talking about. He never changes.
He planted a soft kiss on my forehead, “Then let me make it up to you.”
“Ace needs your help, as his friend, Kai.” I said, “Right now, choose what’s more important. Your helpless friend or me?”
“Of course, I would choose you, anytime, anywhere. There’s no one else as important as you.” He said, looking at my whole body, “And did anyone dare to touch you? I will kill anyone who dared to put their hands on you.”
“I am fine,” I answered, pushing him for a bit, I have to make the distance between us, or else he’ll ravish me at this point. I have to put a strain on him to stop that. We are in another territory for goodness sake.
“Kai, Ace is more important right now. Don’t get distracted.” I mumbled, “Your friend, and his mate…we have to help them.”
He sighed, “Alright after we visit him, I’ll be doing a whole body checkup on you later.”
I nodded, happy to convince him yet couldn’t help but snort at him. I would say Kai did not change from his old ways but at the same time, something in him changed but I couldn’t pinpoint what.
“About our argument…” I suddenly brought up the incident before we were attacked by the fowlers, and his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“About what?”
“You know…..our talk about your brother?” I trailed off and he brushed it aside,
“Let bygones be bygones. What’s important is now.”
I raised my eyebrow at that, Kai never takes things to slide that easily.
He’s the type to hold a grudge until his deathbed yet here he is, pushing it off as if it were a small matter. I guess we’ll talk about that later on.
“Kai, Arya.” Alpha Magnus suddenly appeared out of nowhere calling our name to gain his attention, “Ace is stable, you can visit him now.”
We instanlty ran inside the packhouse and into the infirmary where they kept Alpha Ace along with a pack doctor.
Maximus stepped forward, and I raised my eyebrows at him.
“We’re here to see our friend,” I said to him.
Kai gave him an intimidating look and the two had a staring contest for a minute before Maximus gave up and stepped aside. Good.
He was still sleeping, and the pack healer looked at us, “I’ll only give you five minutes. Stressing him out would only further his injury.”
I nodded as he left.
“Remember, five minutes.” Maximus reminded us as he left us alone.
I glanced at Alpha Ace.
With all those bandages wrapped all around his shoulder, well, I could only say one thing.
Overall, he looks like sh*t.
His alpha healing abilities seemed to not work on him because the poison was too severe. He stirred in his sleep, and Kai looked at his friend with an unexplainable expression.
Ace seemed to instanlty sense us as he jerked upright and grabbed me by the throat, his eyes bloodshot red. This must be his reflex. His senses must have been destroyed by the poison for now. I will let him slide for attacking me like this.
I raised my hands in surrender, “Alpha Ace, relax, it’s me.”
He raised his eyebrows, sniffing me and when he recognized me, he dropped his hands on my throat and glanced beside me to see Kai.
Instanlty, he shot up in the bed as his hands slammed into Kai’s face, catching me by surprise.
“You bastard!” He yelled, wanting to punch Kai again. “Where the f*ck were you, fool? How dare you show up your face. I swear I’ll kill you!”
