64 The Protector

“Yes, since we got you here, you were staying for one month, so one more month and we’ll be welcoming your pups!” He explained, “I wonder how would they look like. Hmp, I hope they won’t look like Kai, I don’t want to see little fellas with an identical stoic expression of that man.”
“If they make it out alive..” The happy energy suddenly turned into a tense atmosphere. I was suddenly reminded again of how low their chance of survival is…
This is so sad, because I never imagined getting pregnant, not with my enemy who I surprisingly loved…
And this is my first pregnancy, which has become critical for my body…
I felt Rem’s hands reaching out to pat me on the head. He could see my sadness with the way his eyes softened at me, “Don’t listen to them, Arya. Watching you for years has made me believe that you can do it.” He would always mumble to me.
Thinking about having to let go of them just so I could live is cruel and it hit me suddenly.
“Watching for years?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes, your father assigned me as your hidden protector. When he couldn’t watch you due to his busy schedule, he would send me out to keep watch on you in case you get in danger.”
That’s weird…but then again, I would always feel like being watched by someone. And I had always brushed it off, thinking how delusional I was…when in fact, it was him?
“Then those almost death experiences I had….it was you who saved me?” I couldn’t recall how many times I was almost thrown to death if it hadn’t for being magically saved by an unknown someone.
He raised his eyebrows, nodding and looking proud of himself, “Ah, I am glad you finally noticed my efforts.”
I observed his expression. There is no denying how similar he looked to his twins. He got Zef’s carefree energy, and at the same time got Kai’s caring nature. But he’s different from them. Talking to Rem feel like a day could pass by without any danger. That shows his energy radiates. As if he’s too carefree and prepared for any danger that might happen because he knows he can fight anyone off.
I suddenly couldn’t help but compare the three of them. They came from the same womb, and share the same face, but each of them has its quirks and strengths. Rem has emerged out of nowhere and he is the only one I couldn’t read. His intentions are too unknown. Unlike Zef who was readable,m and Kai who I could somehow read, Remis was just a full-on mystery.
I do not know which side he is on, but he finally solidifies how loyal he is to my father, and I can see his intentions of only saving me.
If he is indeed watching me all this time, then he was there when the twins killed my father, I meant my guardian Aulus.
“That night…why didn’t you save my father, I mean Aulus?” I asked him and he suddenly got quiet, as if recalling that incident.
“I regret that time too.” He said, “There’s not one day that I sleep without thinking of how it would have been if I have gotten there faster.”
I sighed, nodding. hat incident has passed, Arya. You should stop being caught up in the past.
He suddenly cleared his throat, “Anyways, I want to tell you something.”
“Hmm? What is it?”
He suddenly leaned into my ear and whispered in a low voice, “I had always had this attraction to you ever since I first saw you. Keep that a secret.”
“Huh? Attraction?” I scoffed, not believing him. There is no way he just fell out of first sight.
I do not believe in that.
Well, it would have made sense if he told me he was attracted to me when he knew I was his mate.
“Yes, long when your father assigned me to keep watch on you when we were just children.” He stated, “I didn’t even know you were also my mate, and I could have rejected your father’s request as you were a pain in the ass to watch, but I didn’t. I was mesmerized by your beauty.”
I chuckled, hearing how he complimented me, “Beauty? I was so dirty and boyish as a child. I would always follow my father in his training as he was the prominent male figure in my life at that time. Also, I would always fight with the boys and ended up getting beaten up and would return home crying. So how in the world would you describe me as beautiful when I was a mess as a child?”
HE shrugged,” I don’t know. You were beautiful to me.” His cheeks were reddening, “Yes, I was jealous of your friends. I was jelaous of Mayhem. I wished I could have played with you.” He suddenly revealed to me, “Too jealous that I wanted to reveal myself so you would know my existence. And that was the  time that you almost caught me.”
“What?” I can’t imagine him doing that, but it makes sense since it was Rem and he must have been a naughty and rule-breaker child.
“Your father had scolded me for that because he doesn't want me to shock you. he wanted me to wait for the perfect time.”
I raised my eyebrows, “ Perfect time? But you revealed yourself back at the followers incident.”
“Oh, that was purely me. I had somehow gotten bored and impatient with how I couldn't show my face to you…
I nodded, recalling that time how it was. Damn, that felt like yesterday.
“I thought you were Zef’s impostor.”
His lips suddenly pulled into a smirk, “Well, I guess I had played that part well.”
I shook my head, “Whatever, don’t you have any other errands to do? Something my father ordered you?”
He pouted at me, “Awe, you want me to leave now? But I enjoyed talking with you.”
“Well, I didn’t,” I answered and he snorted.
“Tsk, keep denying that, I know I was interesting, you’re slowly trusting me, Arya. I know it.” He said with a proud expression, “And it won’t be too long before you’ll fall for me.”
“So what’s your plan? Make me fall for you?”
“Why yes. I am also your mate, remmeber? Also, I want to make pups with you!”
I face slammed, lightly hitting him. Sometimes, talking with Rem makes sense, but he would just break character and spit some nonsense.
I don’t know if he was joking about that plan of his so I’ll just let him on his own.
I suddenly looked out the window to my right and could see the outside of the packhouse. Tall green meadows were surrounding us, and I could sense how fresh the air is, much more relaxing than at the Mdinights Pack, I admit.
I inhaled deeply, looking at the outside longingly, “I still haven’t walked around the pack.”
Rem’s eyes suddenly sparkled at that, “Oh, you must be getting bored, want me to show you the place? I promise you will like it.”
I raised my eyebrows, “Didn’t my father specifically tell you to keep watch on me so I won’t just wander around aimlessly? And to wait until I had fully recovered?” This man is a naughty rule-breaker.
He bit his lips, smiling sheepishly, “Well, I guess some rules are meant o be a break. I am a naughty rulebreaker after all.”
