Chapter 24: The first prediction
Sarah Codache
The vibrant nature embraced as a man ran around the golden field of flowers and herbs with me. We were playing with the plants, following the breeze of the wind.
"Catch me Snaedis!" The male child's voice playfully said. He was running ahead of me. He used his capability of being the heir to take place to become a god of land someday. Branches were helping him to get rid of me while I continued approaching him.
Tsk.
"You ran too fast using your ability! I can't catch you!" I complained while holding my waist and catching my breath. I felt so tired that I could no longer run as fast as he could. My eyes were in hassle together with this wind's identical gaseous feeling. Probably, my sister was not in the mood right now.
"Bleh! You're a goddess, not a human. Stop acting like that, and use yours!" He jokingly shouted, mocking my marvelous identity.
He did some irritating facial expressions, and I was triggered. I can't stop myself from shivering in annoyance. "Catch me! Come on Snaedis!" He said with a little encouragement in his voice while proceeding to make tress in front of him. He did this so that he can elevate away from me.
I look around those goddesses who were playing around this field. They were using their power according to their roles, so I did the same.
I raised my hands and started creating water in a circular motion. My eyes went blue as I did it. The density became heavy and was ready to form enough strength to raise me towards the god of the land when my sister blew away the waters-splashing all over the field.
The goddess of wind interrupted my joyfulness. I felt a bit of anger towards her. Why was she even do that?
"Hello to you, my dear sister! Join me in your game!" She said in enthusiasm while approaching my side. She held the tip of her dresses to avoid stepping on them. Her lips curved to smile with eagerness to join.
I stomped my foot in front of her. Hmph! "I almost catch Rein!" I whined as my eyes looked straight at her.
"Oh? Well, baby girl, you're not yet at the exact age for you to use that depth of your power. You might lose control." She reminded with her fingers wiggling in front of me. I thought she was joking, but her face was steady, dead-serious.
Pfft! I shattered, "But my birthday is near!"
"Haha! I am lucky that I was born older than you! Bleh!" Rein suddenly chipped in. I thought he was not here anymore.
My sister was about to scold Rein when a blurry figure of a lady in long, fancy green dresses that shimmers with the rays went in our direction. The three of us stopped our naughtiness. We fixed ourselves and gave respect to the queen. All the gods and goddesses around us bowed in front of her as she passed along. We did the same.
It was my mother.
She carefully looked around those royalties who gave respect to her before looking at us.
When her eyes dropped in us, she began, "I will be far away from you a little while. I need to go with the few royalties to take charge of the future." My mom informed us. Her ideas were incomplete. We cannot figure out where she will go and what duty she will do.
Ugh! My birthday is coming, and yet she will leave?
I want to remind mom about it, but my sister said it first. "But mom," She glanced at me for a second before looking back to mom. "Snaedis birthday will be up soon." She continued. Her voice was full of concern towards me. She knew how much I want mom to be at my side always and probably thought of mom not present on my birthday would be big trouble for me.
My mom sighed and shook her head as she responded. "I will do my best to get to your birthday soon. For now, I will take care of the future of the mortals."
I bowed my head as I felt a little pinch in my heart. With that, I cannot figure out if she knew exactly what I felt or not. All I knew was, she left with her maids.
My sister tapped my back, showing sympathy.
"That's okay little sister. You know, mom is the goddess of all goddesses, and her responsibility as the protector of the Earth is a must to save humanity." She explained carefully in a positive way.
I nodded. Well, mom always puts humans first.
After that, we went back to the castle with my sister and Rein guiding me. The entire palace was full of vivid roses and varieties of flowers displaying every corner. The plants and their roots went more lively as Rein and I passed in the hallway towards the castle's main door-which was securely guarded.
When we finally reached home, the wide-elegant ambiance of the glowing castle welcomed us. Ceilings were high, and stairs were seen by just standing at the main door's entrance. The colors were astonishing to the eyes.
My sister went in front of us immediately. "I am going to leave you too here. I need to finish something." She instructed, seemingly telling us to be responsible.
Rein and I nodded, half-waist.
When my sister finally left, Rein surprisingly grabbed my hands towards the large terrace. I tried to get rid of his hand, but his annoying thorns came out for me to avoid touching it with my free hand.
As the tall doors opened, we stepped out to see the wide view of the entire paradise. Green branches were crawling up the castle with butterflies of the same color.
When Rein finally removed his hand from mine, I quickly washed away the tiny soil he put using my water ability. I swiped my other hand above it. While I was doing these, he turned his self like a joyful kangaroo while interacting with the plants and branches around him.
I was planning to get out and rest in my bedroom, but a strange strain of brown branches appeared, crawling at his back. I was shocked and couldn't even make a sound because of what I have seen! It was my first time seeing him creating brown branches!
"Hm? What are you looking for?" He puzzled. His voice sounded quizzing and full of curiosity.
I failed to speak a word and just pointed a finger towards his back.
Fortunately, he was able to understand my simple gesture. When his eyes saw the single brown branch he had, he murmured in surprise but worry.
"A mortal cut of one of the endangered trees in the world."
Huh?
"What?" I asked.
He looked straight to my eyes, but at this time, those were flashing in pain. "Basing on the branch's texture, it was from a Narra tree."
I shivered in worry as I approached him with my cold hands. I know how painful it was for him to handle that situation. My eyes were trembling as I held his two bare hands with wounds caused by that Narra branch.
We were about an inch apart from each other. Rein gently accepted the coldness of my palms as my eyes flickered in blue to heal him. He was not too vocal, but I knew he needed me.
He needed water.
When the healing was enough, I took off my hands away from him, but to my extreme astonishment, the wound was still there! Both of us immediately looked at each other with eyes asking what was going on.
I shook my head. I couldn't believe this was happening!
"Wh-why?" I whispered while looking at his wounds.
"If the wounds do not heal, it means the tree will still appear in the future." A voice of an old messenger in the palace chipped in. Our heads immediately turned towards his direction. He was with his magical stick while slowly walking towards us. He has a long white mustache, and his hairs were getting old as it looked.
Rein and I were both confused about what he said.
"What do you mean?" Rein asked with furrowed eyebrows. I was about to step closer to the man to avoid him moving too much since he was walking too slow towards us, but Rein grabbed my pulse and held it tight.
I hissed in silence.
I did not mind arguing. I stood straight and just listened to these immortal's conversation.
The old messenger breathed heavily before he responded. "It simply implies the possibility of the tree to grow back again in the future by human time."
"What's the purpose of the tree growing back again?"
The old messenger grinned, laughing a bit. "It will grow to take its vengeance towards those who cut it off." He stopped for a while before he continued. "And it grows at the place where the one responsible for its lost lived."
Rein glanced to his wounds again with a sadness projecting his face. I felt worried about him. As much as possible, I want to help him as much as I could.
"So my wound will not heal until the tree grows again..."
"It will."
"How?"
"When the tree found the man who killed its existence, and when it falls to destroy the few of humanity."

I carefully opened my eyes and found myself inside a new environment once again. I immediately felt sick when my body did not react to the strange air that these people put inside this large fully-transparent room.
Where am I right now? The last thing I remembered, I was in a room, isolated with minimal brightness, but now the lights were a bit too much.
I glanced towards the huge bulb above the ceiling, a few meters from the surface. My eyes were irritated, so I instantly looked away from it.
What was happening to me? Why am I not feeling normal at all?
I roamed my eyes around until I spotted a familiar man just a few meters away from my spot where I sat down with this cold cube behind my back.
When my vision served right, it was my daughter whom I saw. I felt relieved when his eyes landed on mine, and he looked at me with comfort. He seemed to be happy when he saw me seeing him.
But, one thing that caught my attention was the wounds on his right hand. It was the same as the wounds I saw a while ago. Wait, was it just a dream?
The moment I focused my eyes on those wounds he had, my eyes began circling in blue. My body automatically stilled as I made the wound slowly healed.
It did not take too long before the wound disappeared. I brought back to my senses. I was not even able to understand what was going on with me.Download Novelah App
