Chapter 32: There's nothing to be afraid if you know what you've done

Wake Louchette
A phosphorescent ceiling met the windows of my soul as the libs behind my back slowly got up. My feet felt motionless, and my arms can barely function. As I wandered around, I found myself inside a doom, dark metallic facility full of glowing lights. I cannot see my surroundings, and the only thing that gave brightness was the tiny rectangular hole from the door, which gave access to the light that came from the outside.
The place seemed familiar. I mean, yes, I knew this place. It was where our company punished lawbreakers that go against our own made rules.
I froze as I realized where I was. The last thing I remembered, I was shot by poison through a needle. And now, I was here inside of a nightmare. The company probably punished me for protecting Sarah. I see.
Later on, I heard a familiar footstep coming near the door. It was from Hisha. My weak eyes focused on the door as it opened gradually. I was not sure what exactly Hisha did. She walked in a direction where I could no longer spot her. Then, all the lights suddenly opened, and the door shut by itself.
"I think I will no longer explain to you anything right now." Her voice echoed casually with a calm emotion as she walked in my direction, bringing some fancy food with drinks. I knew she was referring to my damn-ass punishment.
I got off from the high elevated bed, went towards the floating table, and sat on a hologram chair. "I know." This was the only thing I said this time. I still can't move on about the fast events that have happened lately.
Hisha put the food in a tray over the table and spoke, "Don't you ever dare to scold me that I haven't reminded you of anything you need to do." She made a snap-on her fingers, after which another hologram chair appeared.
"Your willingness to save Sarah put you in this situation. And oh! By the way, where is she right now? Have you save her?" She challenged in a nasty while pretending to look around. I can feel her frustration and anger about my choices, but I didn't regret it.
I drank the juice with no hesitation of giving her the emotionless face I usually have. I hear her sighed as she rolled her eyes, avoiding having eye contact with mine.
Her words did not matter to me anyway.
As I ate the food she brought, I suddenly remembered Lance. He was the first one who got injured among the rest. So I drank water first before asking Hisha.
I gulped. "How's Lance?"
She faced me with a surprised look. Oh? Did I ask something wrong?
"Seriously? You are not even responding to what I was saying!" She yelled silently. Her eyebrows went plain with her eyelids, which got tiringly frustrated.
I didn't mind her. She noticed my reaction, and so she continued. She has no choice after all.
"Hush! Lance's situation is critical, but he's somehow stable right now. He is lucky that the bullet didn't reach his heart. Bruh!" She responded in force-while waving her hands in front of me like a silly kitten who doesn't care about its poop. That made sense since she was also wearing a cat ear headband. It made me surprised. She was not fun of having these things, eh?
Her eyes were lurking at my expression. "Hm? What are you looking at?" I immediately shook my head after I realized that I was starring at her.
"Nothing, you just look different this time." I offhandedly said while I continued eating.
"Psh! I know I am pretty." I almost choked about what she said. I was not thinking about that. Lmao, she's too proud.
"Hey! Why are you like that? Isn't it true that I am pretty?" She repeatedly asked while fixing the headband, in a way that she wants to make sure that I will agree with her.
Damn, what was she thinking? I quickly drank the water and wiped the sides of my lips.
I cleared my throat. "Since when did you like wearing those stuff?" I directly asked for her to avoid speculating false intentions.
"You mean this headband? I just borrowed it from Alexis. You know her. She's fun of collecting girly things." She answered in a craze. Knowing Hisha, she's the type of girl that isn't that girly. She only wears long casual and formal clothes. She's conservative.
There was a bit of silence between us for about a minute or two until I accidentally glanced at her. Her face was uptight. "Are you really okay?" She softly asked. She exactly knew what I felt.
She breathed deeply. "I know you are thinking of her." I froze for a second before I began to chew my food.
Honestly, not being able to know anything about Sarah can't get off my mind. I didn't have any idea about where she was and how she was doing right now. She was the reason why I cannot focus right now. I did not understand why I was thinking of her several times since I left her alone in the middle of the street, and it was making me sick knowing that she's not around me.
I let my thoughts passed by and pretend not to be affected. "I remembered I lost my position after the incident. So who's taking my place?" I changed the topic with a sigh. I must be mad about the consequences I received, but these did not affect my perspective to believe that what I did was right.
Hisha was about to interrupt, probably to clarify the things I have missed to answer, but gladly, she politely goes with the flow. "It's supposed to be Lance since he's your right hand. However, because of his condition, the board hesitated to appoint him as the leader. Additionally, Lance has his own petty punishment for hindering the soldiers to do their duty. That's it, by the time that he fully recovers, the company will give him a suspension for a month." She formally responded while I continued to eat as I listened to her.
"So, they haven't decided a leader yet?"
"They already did."
"And who?"
"They chose me."
I looked up to her because of what she reported. She stared at me like saying that she didn't have any choice since it was the board's decision. I wasn't surprised since she has been the most trusted companion to me ever since we became teammates, but it was just that I doubt her leadership.
I nodded before I arranged the utensils back to the tray, and a small machine at the four edges of the table began to elevate to clean up some mess. After that, the table transformed into a washing area for me to sanitize my hands.
Hisha stood up without any words. She carried the tray and silently walked away. When there was only a one-step for her to totally get out of the room, she suddenly stopped and faced me back.
"And by the way, Mr. Steeven told me to prepare yourself for tomorrow." She randomly said and immediately walked away. When the door shut, I left clueless about her last words.
For what I am going to be preparing for?
