Chapter 39: I need me
Few months passed, and I was still here inside my room. Ever since Christian left this place, he hasn't come back yet. Workers here gave me food thrice a day, and that was it. They didn't even initiate to let me out at least once a week. I felt too exhausted by just staying here without anything to do aside from watching those people in white clothes passing by my room. Every time I saw them, they looked hurry. Going there, and here. These people might have something urgent to do every day. Well, thanks to this transparent glass on one side of this room. It somehow gave me a bit of fun here.
I got up from the bed and brushed my hair with my bare fingers. I yawned. I felt tired even though I didn't do anything throughout these days.
With my eyes half-opened, my legs were weak as I went near the waters at my right. The splatting sound of these waterfalls gave the waters underneath a more crystal clear appearance. I kneeled and looked at my reflection. At first glance, my face blurred. But in a blink of an eye, the tiny water waves suddenly moved away from my glare. It gave me a more lucid view of my look.
However, I was startled and began to be fully awake when the image of myself suddenly became different. The face was the same as mine, but the appearance of this woman looked fierce and strong. Her hair was in a chignon style with blue and white highlights. Having tiny white crystals at the end of the eyelid's upper portion, these connected with aqua blue and white highlights. Those deep blue eyes shined like a pearl in the ocean. Her lips were in plain peach-skin in color.
I quickly moved back in extreme nervousness of thinking who that woman was. Is she the other side of myself?
I felt uncertain as I roamed my eyes around to observe the surroundings. Fortunately, there wasn't any sign of danger coming. So, I carefully crawled to see my reflection once again, thinking of that mysterious woman's unbothered appearance.
When I saw that the waters flew at their usual current, and that face of a woman was not there anymore, I felt at ease. As I said, the waters were clear. I can see those tiny plants growing underneath with just my nake eyes. The cold air that passed in my face tempting me to touch the waters to feel more of its peculiarities.
My pointy finger was shaking as I gradually put my fingers above the waters. As expected, the waters were indeed cold. Right beside me, there was a small plant with a cute ant beneath. I observed the creature going near the water flow. It got frozen. My eyes were surprised to see that unfortunate soul died. Aside from that, I was not expecting it to happen. I mean, who would have thought that this calm water right here can be harmful?
When I realized that my finger was still above the waters, I instantly moved it away. I was in a panic as I watched my fingers getting wet. I can't stop worrying about what will happen next. My eyes were shivering in fear to know that my finger will freeze anytime. I sat still, trying to be brave.
But, to my astonishment, my finger did not freeze. Its temperature was more than enough for a human-like me to get frozen, but it seemed that my body does not react to it. I shook my hands and observed my finger one more time, but none of a single reaction occurred.
I blinked my eyes several times to clear my vision. I was thinking of having hallucinations at this time. Oh my, what was happening? I consoled myself.
To check if what I witnessed was real, I picked an ant at the same spot where I found the first one. I threw it to the waters, and there was a tiny splashing sound it made. As expected, the ant froze as it sank to the bottom part of this curved pool, laying its dead body with the soft rock near the undercutting part of the falls.
It was weird. There were plants below the waters, but those were not affected by the water's unique capability of freezing things. There was this plant with a great filler, which grows for about two inches in height. The plant softened the edges of rocks with its bright leaves, creating a vivid contrast against the cool gray of wet stone. This plant's yellow flower bearing touched the waters, some were even below, but none of them got frozen. Some plants produced fuzzy, lime-green rosettes of leaves that look like little floating heads of lettuce. Despite being floated above the waters with some leaves touched beneath, and waters failed to freeze the leaves.
Below the waters were random grasses with tall leaves, waving accordingly to where the water flows.
I was trying to analyze the situation, but I still can't find any answers. I glanced at my finger once again. Ugh, what now? I wondered in my thoughts.
I just shook my head. Maybe I was fantasizing once again. I was about to get back to bed when a voice interfered with my thoughts, responding to me. "Why are you pondering too much when you can find the answer within yourself?" That voice was familiar. It was the same as what I heard the last time I fought outside.
Oh, wait! Is this Rein?
"Rein? Is that you?" I asked inside my thoughts. It took him a bit of a second before he responded.
"Yes." He replied. His voice sounded calm but slightly compensated. Oh, why was that?
I sighed. I thought it was somebody else. When I remembered what Rein said a while ago, I asked in confusion. "What do you mean by I can find the answer within myself? Do you also know me before?"
I wandered my eyes around to look for the source of that voice. I saw nothing, not even a trace of sound waves. Reasonably, we were indeed responding to each other through my thoughts.
"Yes, I know all the things about you." He answered. Honestly, I did not know how to react every time he conversed. His mood is stagnant. His voice is always calm, which I view him as a person without feelings at all.
Is this man even a human? I argued with myself, but surprisingly, he still heard me.
"I am not a human, Snaedis." Because of what he said, I almost freak out.
What the world is this man saying?! So, I am talking with an unknown creature right now?
I also almost die inside when he opened up about how I reacted. He also saw me?!
"There is no need for you to get terrified. We know each other. You just don't remember everything right now." Huh? He was like telling me that I lost my memory. So what I thought before was right, but how come Christian refused to reveal me a single thing?
I wonder where Rein came from and how did he found me. If I got a chance to see him right now, then I will know more about myself. I believe that meeting him is the solution now. But the thing was, where is he right now?
I straightened my back and walked around the room. The tiny droplets that splashed from the waterfalls slapped onto my face as I went to the other side of the waterfalls.
"Where are you?" I asked, desperate to see him.
"I am always with you." He replied. His words made me froze. What does it mean?
My eyebrows furrowed as I looked to nowhere, imagining myself that he was right there even though he wasn't. "But, I cannot see you."
"You want to see me?"
"Yes, I want to see you, please!" I begged, stomping my feet softly.
From the other side of my ears, I heard a sigh. I quickly faced my right. From there, I saw a man in plain green clothes. And just like the woman I saw in my reflection a while ago, his lips were peach-skin in color. He was like wearing make-up, but I knew it wasn't make-up at all. He looked so decent plus, the gentle posture he has. Green branches were crawling at his arms and his barefoot. He's like a man from ancient, except for the magical clothes he is wearing. His nose was sharp.
I guess this is Rein.
When his chocolate brown eyes met mine, it turned to wave mint-green. I can also feel my eyes turned blue.
I cannot move because of what happened. After seeing Rein's cold eyes, I felt relieved for no reason. The wind blew rapidly around us. The waters were shaking as it overlaps the small area of this land. The plants swirled with the wind.
I can feel a certain connection between the two of us.
As I saw him walking towards me, I felt unstable. I wasn't able to think. When he stopped right in front of me, the wind was swirling around us. He raised his right hand, wanting me to hold it. And so, I did.
I carefully raised mine until our hands stuck. When Rein's fingers slowly went down to lock mine, I also did the same to him. His hand was soft, and there was this feature of him that confirmed his existence. It's true. He was not a human. At this time, I felt more connected. It gave me a feeling of assuring myself that he wasn't a stranger to me.
As our hands twirled, the wind pressure went high. My hair began to mess, and my eyes began to feel unpleasant. I can feel myself becoming weak. I almost lost my balance, but I was able to handle it.
I removed my eye contact from his and closed my eyes due to uneasiness. As the wind became stronger, my legs were slowly giving up. And with a snap of a second, my body shut down.
I fell unconsciously to the ground, but fortunately, Rein was able to catch me ahead. He twisted his body as he held my back. I gasped as he held me tight.
When the wind disappeared, I slowly opened my eyes. I was facing above the skies, and I was astonished.
I stilled and couldn't make any words because of this stunning nature I saw. The new environment welcomed my sight.
I saw a purple-blue sky with birds chirping around the vicinity. My nostrils reacted to the smell of the vibrant, different kinds of plants around. The sunset was beautiful.
Finally, I breathed real nature.
"I know you need this, so I brought you here." Rein's tingling voice whispered in my ears.Download Novelah App
