7. Like a Haunting

The heat... that feeling still bothered me.
"Crazy." Nakamori woke up from his sleep. He wiped his face, which was covered in cold sweat. His heart felt so restless, he was still bothered by the horrible incident he experienced a while ago.
Who was that woman? He thought frantically. Nakamori had been dreaming of that strange woman a lot lately. That woman always appeared in his dreams these days. Nakamori was sure he had never met the woman before.
Feeling uneasy Nakamori decided to put his mind at ease. She went to the kitchen to make a cup of her favorite hot tea. Usually, when he had trouble sleeping, he would make hot tea.
After making the tea, Nakamori sat at his study table. He looked out the window of his room. From outside, it looked so quiet and still. It was late at night and naturally, it was very quiet. The girl sat dreamily trying to neutralize her frantic thoughts.
I'm sure I never knew that woman before. Who is that woman?" she said to herself. To be honest, her heart did not feel calm at all, she was still curious about the mysterious figure.
Continuing to think about these nonsensical things, only made Nakamori feel more agitated. He then sipped his tea and unintentionally, his eyes caught a glimpse of something odd out there. In the night and relying solely on man-made lighting, Nakamori caught a glimpse of a small child running across the street from his house.
It didn't make sense to have children wandering around in the middle of the night like this. Nakamori felt something was off. The girl then turned back, confirming her vision she then took another look at the figure of the little boy. Although not sure she allowed herself to strive to see it more clearly.
Crazy! Nakamori almost threw down her teacup. The little boy suddenly stopped and joined her in staring intently. The little boy had the form of a boy wearing typical boy's clothes. He looked normal in appearance. But somehow his wide grin made him look more like a psychopath. Nakamori himself was unsure of his vision. He thought he was hallucinating but as many times as he rubbed his eyes nothing changed.
The little boy continued to stare at him. It was as if he wanted to tell Nakamori something. The little boy remained silent, but it was clear he was trying to communicate with the girl.
This kind of eerie sensation was probably very rare for Nakamori. But to be honest, this time, he felt scared. Her whole body was shaking, she needed someone else right now to calm her down.
The little boy's smile grew wider and scarier. He continued to show off that wide smile as if his lips were about to be torn off because of the wide smile.
Nakamori despite his fear still tried to make eye contact with the strange figure. As their eyes met, Nakamori could see that the little boy seemed to be saying something. Nakamori wasn't sure what the little boy was saying. But something strange happened, he seemed to be able to understand the words that he couldn't hear very well. The words seemed to come through like telepathy.
"Dear Nakamori" someone called from outside his room.
Nakamori immediately turned around and knew that it must be his father calling him. He replied and was about to go outside. But when he turned around briefly the boy had disappeared. Vanished into the darkness of the night.

With his heart still pounding, Nakamori walked out of his room and headed in the direction of the voice calling him. His father was waiting outside, a worried look on his face.
"Dad, what's wrong?" asked Nakamori, trying to contain his fear.
"I'm worried about you, Nakamori," his father replied gently. "I heard you talking to yourself in your room. What happened?"
Nakamori tried to explain the events he had just experienced, including the strange little boy outside the window. His father listened seriously, his face thoughtful.
"Maybe you're just having a nightmare, Nakamori," her father said after a moment's thought. "But if you're very disturbed by this incident, we can call in an expert or shaman to look into the situation," he joked. He just wanted to comfort his daughter so she wouldn't think too much about it.
Nakamori felt a little relieved at her father's joke. He didn't want to face his fears alone. Although he was still unsure whether what he was experiencing was an illusion or not.

The next morning, after school Nakamori intended to stop by the bookstore. He needed to buy some books recommended by his teacher. Some good books to support his learning at school...
Last night's incident, although still a little disturbing his mind. He still tried to neutralize his mind. He didn't want last night's incident to make him feel disturbed. He tried to calm his mind and distract himself.
Going to the bookstore was one way to distract her mind. Just as the girl was about to go inside, she caught a glimpse of someone she recognized very well, inside. She smiled slightly, slightly forgetting her fear of going inside.

"Saeran," Nakamori called out to me.
I turned to the person and found a beautiful teenage girl in her special school uniform. I sighed heavily. I didn't hate this girl at all, but somehow it felt like meeting her always drained more energy from my body.
"Yeah, what's up? You just got back from school?" I greeted her deliberately. It felt impossible for me to just avoid her. Although to be honest, she was a bit annoying in my mind.
"Ah... your reaction is rather annoying. Why do you look like you're a bit depressed when you meet me?" She pursed her lips and looked cute. Even so, she still looked annoying in my eyes. It seems like I'm getting immune to pretty-faced girls. No matter how adorable girls like Nakamori were, they were still a bit annoying.
I waved my hand in front of my face, then replied like this, "It's normal. Don't think too much about it, it could just be your feelings," I said indifferently. I prayed in my heart that this girl wouldn't make a big deal out of it. This girl, Nakamori, was the best at prolonging problems if something didn't suit her.
"You still look depressed when you see me. But never mind. By the way, what book were you looking for here?" she asked curiously.
"I just wanted to have a look earlier that's why I came here. But there seem to be some interesting fiction books so I want to buy them," I replied.
"I see." She seemed to steal a glance at the book I was holding in one of my hands. "Want to go to the cafe over there? I'll treat you," he offered.
