Chapter 101: Son-in-law Selection Competition

On the waiting bench, Rose sat motionless despite the noise and the bustling crowd surrounding her.
Today, she wore a simple T-shirt and jeans, her hat pulled low, covering almost half of her face because she was afraid of being seen by reporters and fans.
“Rose.”
John's voice rang softly in her ear, startling her and she quickly stood up. She felt as if he had just returned from a running race, breathing out through his mouth.
“Mr. John. Aren't you busy filming a commercial today?”
“I ran here as soon as I finished filming. I came to see you off.” He said, panting.
“Thanks. I have to go inside, it's time.”
She smiled and pulled her luggage away. She didn't expect John to come to see her off, but when he appeared, her heart suddenly felt warm and comforted.
“Rose, give me a chance, okay? Let me replace that person.”
The gentle, deep voice of the man rang out behind her, making her steps falter slightly. It wasn't that she didn't feel John's feelings for her, but right now, in her heart, there was only Wynn's figure.
The feeling of loving someone but not being loved back is really painful. Rose didn't want to enter his heart but the truth was already like that. She also knew that she and Wynn were impossible, even with a little hope.
In a few short minutes, many thoughts rushed through Rose's mind. She wondered whether she should give herself and this guy a chance or not. Her steps slowed down and then stopped, she turned her head, looking at him seriously.
“Can you wait until I come back? I don't want you to be a replacement for anyone. Wait until I forget that person, can you wait?”
The actor's nod was exchanged for a smile from the beauty. She waved goodbye to John and headed towards the check-in area.
He stood there watching until her figure disappeared into the bustling crowd. At this moment, he silently thanked Wynn for not accepting her feelings and giving him the chance.
Although he knew that such thoughts were not good, people were still opportunistic and selfish in love.
Even though John only thought of Wynn, Wynn was still affected and sneezed continuously. Not wanting to bother the whole group, Wynn retreated to the back, walking while watching their backs.
At noon, when everyone returned from the construction site and finished eating, Liam immediately called Stephen to go out to the garden with him to talk. Mina watched them anxiously.
She knew that her parents didn't like Wynn, partly because he was a singer, and partly because he was younger than her. So, she couldn't give any opinion at this time, planning to wait a while before telling them.
Mina had never thought that Steven had feelings for her. Today, there were so many people, so she couldn't openly admit that she liked Wynn because it wouldn't be appropriate. From morning until now, she still didn't dare to talk clearly with Steven.
After asking about the two men's backgrounds and jobs, Liam returned and sat solemnly on the chair.
According to Stephen's advertisement, one was a business tycoon, the other was a music king, and both were worthy of being his son-in-law.
However, he only had one daughter so he didn't know who to marry her to, and his daughter kept quiet so he had to let them compete with each other to be fair.
Hearing Liam announce his decision, Mina wanted to die. She didn't understand what her father was trying to do, and why those two men also obeyed him.
“Dad, there's no need to do that.” She quickly spoke up.
“No problem, I want to try.” Steven smiled and spoke.
“Me too.” Wynn continued.
Then, the competition began with the water-carrying competition. Wynn and Steven's task was to draw water from the well and run to their buckets and fill them up, whoever filled their buckets first would win.
After Stephen shouted, the two quickly started the competition, the old people and children surrounded them and cheered.
Stephen was so enthusiastic that he kept jumping up and down shouting the words “trying hard’, cheering with all his might.
Wynn ran three laps before becoming dazed, he poured water into Steven's bucket instead of his own. Only after running a distance did he realize something was wrong, so he quickly turned around. Unfortunately, Steven was also running towards the well, so the two of them bumped into each other.
Steven fell to the ground. Wynn spun around as if he was adjusting the TV antenna, the two buckets of water on his shoulders also spun around and when the momentum ran out, he fell.
The hard plastic bucket fell, rolling towards Stephen who was bending down to roll up his pants and shirt to make it easier to jump. The children saw the danger and immediately moved away, leaving only him.
“Stephen.” Nancy called out loudly.
“I'm here. Try your best…”
Poor Stephen, he heard Nancy calling and thought that he had been busy rolling up his pants and not cheering, so she reminded him. When he looked up, the plastic bucket was right in front of him, so he had to jump high to get over it.
But he misjudged the landing point. When his feet landed, the plastic bucket rolled over, so he landed on it. The bucket accidentally turned into a treadmill.
Stephen ran two steps before falling forward, grabbing Wynn's neck, who was now struggling to stand up, causing Wynn to fall again.
“It hurts, why did you hurt me?” Wynn grimaced.
“This guy, didn't you hurt me?” Stephen's face wrinkled even more.
Next was the cooking competition. Liam asked the two men to show off their skills in making noodles for his entire family to eat dinner.
Wynn had never known how to pull noodles, let alone cook noodles. He looked at Steven while doing it to imitate him.
The more skillful Steven was, the more clumsy Wynn was. He pulled and spun the dough so long that he couldn't close his arms, forcing Stephen to jump in to help and scold him.
“Just pull it long enough, are you going to play jump rope?”
Seeing Steven sprinkle dry powder on the table, Wynn followed suit. Somehow, he sprinkled it all over Liam and Stephen's faces and heads, making them look a year older even though spring hadn't arrived yet.
After a while of struggling, Wynn finally pulled the noodles with super-large strands. And when he saw Steven throwing the noodles into the air, making the children praise him, he immediately showed off his talent.
But his noodles couldn't find a landing strip and flew straight to the ground. In the end, he stopped competing with Steven and just did things normally.
After dinner, everyone gathered in the communal yard to start the final round. The whole village heard that Wynn was coming to perform a play, so they all came to watch, as crowded as ants.
Mina pulled out clothes, and beards that were stored for more than a dozen years in the chest and distributed them to Wynn, Stephen, and Steven and then also made up for them. Nancy is in charge of writing lines and scripts.
Because of the urgent time, all three people learned the lines that their mouths were distorted but sometimes remembered, sometimes forgot.
Wynn plays Zhang Fei, Stephen plays Guangwu, and Steven plays Liu Bei. They will all act out a scene from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
As soon as the curtain rose, the audience burst into applause. Wynn came out, turned around, and then spoke.
“I'm Zhang Fei's younger brother, let me come in and call my brother out...”
After saying that, Wynn jumped in. Nancy was stunned and quickly checked the lines. Obviously, she didn't write that. But in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, no character is  Zhang Fei's younger brother.
“Where did my beard go? Help me find it, quickly.” Wynn urged.
It turned out that he had just raised his hand to stroke his beard when he realized that it had disappeared, so he ran in to look for it.
Everyone opened their eyes wide and looked around every corner. Finally, Steven picked it up. Mina quickly glued the beard back on Wynn's face and pushed him out onto the stage.
Because the first part was wrong, Wynn's acting was clumsy, forgetting his lines back and forth. Luckily, Stephen and Steven acted well so the play seemed to be acceptable. The audience below cheered continuously.
After the show, everyone cleaned up and went home. As soon as they got home, Liam and Anne called Mina into the room to talk.
Wynn felt that he could not compare to Steven. Feeling sad, he got into the car, got his guitar, and went to the end of the yard, playing and singing. Stephen and Steven came over and sat next to him, listening with interest.
Nancy leaned against the door and looked out. A moment later, Mina also came and stood with her.
The deep, sad male voice in the quiet night made people's hearts ache, touching the hearts of those who had known love.
“Mr. Wynn sings well.” Nancy said softly.
“Uh.” Mina smiled in agreement.
“Miss Mina, you like him, right?”
Hearing Nancy ask, Mina was a bit confused but still nodded. Her face turned slightly pink because of embarrassment.
“You should let him know your feelings, you two are a beautiful couple. Life is not long, don't waste any more time.” Nancy said softly.
“Tomorrow I will talk to Steven first. Nancy, no couple is just born compatible. I see that the president and you love each other so much, why can't you change for each other?”
“He and I are over.”
Nancy replied and turned back inside. It would have been easy to solve if it was just a matter of incompatibility.
Mina sighed and looked after her. Since the day Dylan fell in love with Nancy, she saw that he had changed his habits and was much more open. Is that still not enough to keep this girl?
