Chapter 83: Tragedy of Life

The apartment complex was dilapidated and deserted, making Daniel feel like he was lost on the set of a horror movie. Plus the cold of winter and the snow made Daniel and Alma even more scared to the point of goosebumps.
He clicked his tongue and looked around. With such a scary scene, it's no wonder that homeless people would rather sleep on the streets than come here to escape the cold.
He regretted that the director of the horror movie he had acted in before did not choose this place as a filming location.
Alma obeyed Daniel, hiding behind the mottled wall, standing still. The crack in the wall was just enough for her to see ahead.
Rosalind did not drive the car inside but left it far away and walked in. In her mind, she was only thinking about how to kill Daniel as neatly and quickly as possible.
As long as he disappeared, she could avenge her father, and the dark mark in her past would be buried forever.
Daniel turned to face the wall where Alma was hiding. He was worried that she would suddenly jump out, causing Rosalind to blame him.
Through the gap, Alma was shocked to see Rosalind suddenly appear, holding a sharp knife, aiming at Daniel.
“Brother-in-law, be careful, behind you.”
As soon as Daniel turned his back, the sharp knife approached him. He was so surprised that he didn't have time to react.
In a flash, he saw Alma standing in front of him and then kneeling, the knife blade was submerged up to the hilt, and fresh blood poured out, dyeing the white snow red.
Rosalind's eyes widened, her trembling hands dropped, and she fell to the ground. She kept crawling backward and shaking her head, her lips mumbling something incoherent. Then, she tried to stand up and staggered away.
Daniel quickly picked up Alma and reassured her.
“Alma, try harder, I'll take you to the hospital.”
The supercar sped down the road. Daniel's whole body was sweating, he continuously increased his speed.
He silently prayed that nothing would happen to the girl, otherwise, he would be tormented for the rest of his life, and wouldn’t know how to face Donna.
At this moment, in the editing room, Donna suddenly felt extremely anxious, the documents on the desk kept falling, making her feel uneasy. She was about to call Alma when the phone rang and Daniel's urgent voice rang out.
“Donna, go to the city hospital quickly, something happened to Alma.”
“What happened to her? Isn't she accompanying you?”
“Alma was stabbed, and the wound was quite severe.”
Donna felt as if the sky and earth around her collapsed, she trembled, hugged her bag, and ran away.
On the way to the hospital, she prayed over and over again, she only had this little sister as her relative, she was only seventeen years old, and the future was still waiting. There were still many things that she and her sister had not done together.
As soon as she arrived, she rushed to the emergency room. At the same time, the red light on the door suddenly went out and the doctors quietly walked out, bowed their heads to apologize, and said they had tried their best.
Donna's hands trembled as she pulled down the white cloth, she couldn't believe this was true. Just this morning, she and her sister were still joking around. She knelt and her pitiful cries echoed.
“Alma, wake up, how can you leave me alone? What can I do? My younger sister…”
Seeing Donna cry, Daniel's heart ached. He walked over to her, his arms tightly around her shoulders, comforting her.
She cried until her tears ran out, then turned to grab his collar.
“Didn't you take her to buy books? Who caused my sister's death?”
“I have to go out, Alma asked to follow me. She blocked the knife for me. The perpetrator ran away, I don't know who it was.”
The heartbreaking cries rang out again. Outside, the snow rain poured down, covering everything.
The pain of losing someone she loved with all her heart made her heart numb. All her efforts over the past time have been meaningless.
She hoped this was just a nightmare but everything that happened after that told her that she had lost her sister.
Because Donna could no longer stand, all the work after that was handled by Daniel. He called to mobilize more bank staff to help because he was also in a state of confusion and chaos.
It was not until the afternoon that he had time to call and question Rosalind without knowing that she was in a coma.
Hearing the phone in Rosalind's bag ringing, Lyle quickly took it out to check because Alisa was busy going to the cafeteria to buy things.
Seeing that the caller was Daniel, he immediately pressed the answer button. Before he could speak, on the other side of the phone, a man's voice filled with anger rang out.
“Rosalind, why did you do that? How much do you hate me so much that you want to kill me? That girl passed away. You killed a person, you know that?”
“Chairman, it's me, Lyle. Rosalind had a traffic accident and is still in a coma.”
“Where is she?”
“City hospital.”
After finishing speaking, Lyle turned to look at Rosalind and raised his hand to brush away the loose hair on her forehead, where the white bandage was stained with red blood.
Yesterday, he was working when he received the news that she had an accident on the overpass.
When he put the phone in her bag, his hand accidentally pressed the mini recorder, and the entire conversation that came out from there told him the reason why she wanted to kill the president of LE bank.
“Don't worry, no matter what happens, I will still be on your side, Rosalind.”
Lyle went down to the hospital grounds to wait for Daniel because he was afraid that Rosalind would suddenly wake up.
The pure white snowflakes falling on his black hair made his already cold face even colder.
After instructing his subordinates to stay with Donna at the funeral, Daniel quickly drove to the city hospital.
His heart was in turmoil. On one side was the person he had spent his youth loving, on the other side was the person he had decided to marry. He felt Donna's pain but did not want to denounce Rosalind.
After parking the car, Daniel quickly ran to the meeting place. As soon as he saw Lyle, his steps faltered slightly. Lyle saw that and immediately walked towards him.
“What did you say on the phone just now? Who did Rosalind kill?”
“That girl is Donna's younger sister, your subordinate.”
“What?”
“Yes, I brought her along and something happened. Lyle…”
“Please listen.”
Before Daniel could finish speaking, Lyle interrupted him, holding the tape recorder in front of him. Daniel was dumbfounded for a moment but still took it.
The silhouettes of the two men gradually faded in the gloomy snow.
Giving the tape recorder back to Lyle, Daniel quietly left. He didn't expect Emery to force Kane to marry Rosalind to him and to be the one behind the scenes pulling the strings that caused the banks to block the SN Group's lifeline.
He also did not expect that Rosalind was carrying that disease in her body. It turned out that he had always made her afraid, worried, and wary.
In his heart, he never thought of telling anyone that secret, it was just because he missed her and wanted to see her so much that he used it to force her to appear.
Arriving at the villa, Daniel left the car on the street and rushed in. Emery was having lunch with his wife. When he saw his son jumping into the kitchen, he was a bit surprised.
“Why did you come back at this hour? Are you craving home-cooked meals?”
“Dad, why did you do that? Why do you have to force Kane to the extreme?”
“How dare you speak loudly to your father?” Linda put down her chopsticks, stood up, and scolded.
“Go upstairs with me.”
After saying that, Emery walked ahead, and Daniel followed angrily. Linda also ran upstairs but only stood outside the study room waiting and did not go in.
Daniel questioned and criticized his father for a long time. In the end, after knowing that because Emery did not want to see his son wandering on the streets, suffering and tormented, he asked Kane like that, Daniel collapsed, holding his forehead and crying, complaining that he did not know what to do now.
Emery did not think that Kane would choose to commit suicide to free himself.
While Daniel was crying, his phone ringtone rang loudly. He saw a strange phone number but still picked it up.
On the other end of the phone, the girl claiming to be Stephen's assistant asked him to arrange an appointment to discuss issues related to SN Group.
Because Daniel turned on the speakerphone, Emery heard the conversation. He took a piece of paper and wrote the words "it's up to you to decide" and placed it in front of him and then quietly left.
“Tell Stephen to come to the office to see me at three o'clock this afternoon.” Daniel held back his sobs and said.
“Yes, thank you very much, Chairman.” Daria replied softly.
