Chapter 94: Peaceful Weekend

At seven thirty in the morning, Rosalind happily went to meet Lyle. When Mina informed her that he had not arrived yet and invited her to wait in the office, she realized that she had read the wrong time.
At eight o'clock, Lyle had just stepped into the main lobby when he saw Laura approaching with a smile. After that night, this was the first time she came to find him.
“Lyle, I have something to tell you.”
“Come to my office.”
After Lyle finished speaking, he walked away first, Laura shyly following closely behind. His cold look made her a little scared, but because the future was bright, she tried to calm herself.
Entering the room, Lyle closed the door and went straight to the swivel chair to sit, looking sternly at the woman in front of him.
“What's the matter?”
“I'm pregnant.”
Lyle's eyes fell on Laura's flat stomach. After a moment of contemplation, he waved his hand to signal her to come closer and smiled lightly.
“So don't run around anymore in the future, stay home and rest, I'll take care of you.”
As soon as Lyle finished speaking, Laura was deeply moved and fell into his arms. She silently thanked the baby for making everything go so smoothly.
Inside the bathroom, Rosalind stood motionless, her heart suddenly aching. She didn't expect Laura to have a child with Lyle. A good friend who always helps her in difficult times falls in love with the person who once harmed her.
After waiting for Laura to leave, Lyle took out the phone and called Mina to ask if Rosalind had arrived yet.
When he heard Mina say she had entered the room and waited for more than half an hour, he quickly looked around and saw her standing hesitantly in front of the bathroom door.
“You…”
“I won't say a word to anyone, please rest assured.”
Looking at the smile on her lips, his heart ached. He was about to explain but then stopped.
He secretly mocked himself. It seemed that he was the only one who was sentimental, Rosalind didn't care who he slept with, in her eyes there was only Dylan's image forever.
“Please sit down. We'll start discussing the contract.”
After looking through the terms, Rosalind didn't ask any more questions, just signed her name, stood up, and asked permission to leave.
This feeling of helplessness reminded her of those long, restless nights in the hospital in country A. In the end, the best things were not for her.
Time passes, night follows day, morning follows dusk, revolving in orbit, winter slowly passes, and spring gently comes.
After the night Donna met Nancy again at the nightclub, she moved into an apartment she had just bought not far from the newspaper office. She did not know that Daniel was upset when he was tricked by her and for several months, he searched for her at all the entertainment spots in the city.
They asked each other a lot over the phone, but until today, Nancy and Donna had time to meet up to talk.
Two girls with two different fates but the situation is similar. They had a beautiful first love that everyone admired.
However, if the first fruit is not sour, it will be acrid. If the first love is not crushed, it will be destroyed, leaving long scars in their hearts that cannot be erased.
Nancy sighed sadly when she heard Donna recount all the events after she left Global Corporation. However, in her mind, Lyle was just Dylan's representative to settle the consequences that Rosalind caused.
During this time, television and newspapers continuously reported that actress Rosalind and the chairman of Global Group were appearing together.
When she saw him with another girl, her heart ached. The pain proved that she could not give up on him. The mixed feelings she had for him were a mixture of love and fear.
“Donna, can you forget? Daniel…”
“I'll try, sister.” Donna spoke up, interrupting Nancy's words.
“He kept asking me about your phone number and where you live, but I lied that I lost your phone number and didn't know where you were.”
“If meeting him makes me sadder, then why should I meet him?”
The space in the cafe fell into silence. At this moment, both girls had the same thought that Rosalind was truly blessed because she was protected and sheltered by so many powerful men.
When it was time for the interview, Donna asked permission to go first. Nancy lingered for a few minutes before standing up.
The remaining chilly air of winter caressed her rosy white face. Her plump cheeks have been painted pink with powder and are no longer naturally pink.
Her footsteps wandered on the bustling street. The raindrops falling on the corner of her lips had a strange salty and bitter taste. She wished she could become indifferent to the joys and sorrows of life.
Spring raindrops covered the asphalt road. Will the road that brought travelers from all over here bring him back to her?
If he came back, she didn't know if she would have the courage to accept his torture and abuse.
The thought that had just crossed her mind was extinguished when her mind gave her an answer that it was impossible.
She would rather let everything go like this so that there would still be a little bit of passionate love left in her heart than let it die completely and be replaced by hatred.
“Beauty, where are you going?”
The sudden call made Nancy startled. Through the car window, she saw Stephen gently smiling, winking, signaling her to get in his car.
Even though it was raining heavily and windy, every time she saw him smile, she felt the sky was clear.
“You're following me, right?”
“No, I just came out of the coffee shop.”
She nodded and opened the car door to get in. She had walked a long way so she was sure he had been following her for a long time.
“If multiple projects are assigned to you at the same time, can you allocate human resources?” Stephen asked humorously.
“Of course. Our company hires additional seasonal workers from outside. Because your company's money is paid quickly, other things are not a problem.”
“That's good. Let's go for a walk, today is the end of the week.”
Without waiting for Nancy to nod, Stephen pressed the car's accelerator and drove straight to the outskirts of the city.
She relaxed and looked at the scenery on both sides of the road, her lips smiling slightly. Today was Saturday and Stephen was the boss, so he was not forced to go to work, and she knew this very well.
If he hadn't said she was his sister, the contractors would have directly appropriated the capital of the unit that received the work from them.
She didn't know what to do to thank Stephen, so every time he called, she would immediately appear to eat, walk around, and chat with him. But these accidental encounters happened more often.
The drizzle quickly passed, leaving behind crystal-like drops of water on the grass.
Stephen patiently pointed the lens at the tallest blade of grass, where a grasshopper was swinging, passionately drinking a drop of clear water.
Nancy stood silently behind him. She didn't dare to move for fear of making the grasshopper jump.
When he smiled and stood up, she came over and walked with him on the grass. They both took off their shoes, feeling the soft grass under their bare feet.
The wind made her black hair flutter, caressing her thin shoulders, carrying a faint scent mixed with the spring air, making Stephen's heart flutter.
He wished he could stay by this girl's side for the rest of his life, protecting and warming her for the rest of her life.
After walking for a while, he took off his coat and spread it out, then sat down with her to watch the scenery.
“Nancy, can you let me gradually replace him?”
The gentle voice with a hint of sadness rang out. What she was worried about finally came, and he said it.
“Stephen, don't you care about what happened between me and your friend?” Nancy asked frankly.
“I only care about you. Forget what belongs to the past.”
“Deputy general director, you gave me some projects and you want me to repay you like this?”
“No. I will never use work to pressure you. Don't think wrongly of me.”
Seeing his confused expression, raising his right hand and then his left hand and explaining, she couldn't help but laugh, so she quickly turned her face away, hiding her smile.
“Don't think too negatively, don't bring work into our relationship, just be normal.”
“Then let's just be normal.”
She stood up, smiled, repeated Stephen's words, and continued to happily walk on the grass. He could only look at her and smile bitterly.
Just as he was about to get up and continue speaking, the grasshopper suddenly jumped and sat in his mouth. Before he could spit it out, it had already crawled into his throat.
Nancy was walking when she heard Stephen coughing and vomiting behind her, so she quickly turned around and asked him what happened.
He shook his head and waved his hand, saying that he had just choked on his saliva. If he tried to take the grasshopper out now, he would be so embarrassed that he wanted to burrow into the ground, so he tried to swallow it.
When he was sure that the grasshopper was in his belly, he called her to go to the car so he could take her out to eat.
He needed a lot of delicacies to suppress that grasshopper, otherwise, he would turn into a pregnant woman with morning sickness.
