NICHOLAS
Our basketball practice will now be before and after class. Now that the competition was approaching our coach was training us hard. This will be our last on playing basketball and he wanted us to be winners since next year when we do graduate we don't have time to join the team since we will be busy on being a college student.
"We will be having a 10-minute break."
"Yes, coach."
I sat down and get my water and towel. I was watching Jade and others who were practicing their cheer.
"Hey, Nicholas I have some news for you."
"A news?"
"Yes. So, did you know that the one we are competing with will be Flinton University?"
"And what's with them?"
"The Flinton knights means Rosalyn!"
"Huh? What's the connection?"
"She was studying at Flinton University this means that Rosalyn will be watching you play. Aren't you a bit excited?"
"And so? Let her watch if she does like it, I don't care."
"Sheez, I'm telling you this because I want you to show off your amazing three points shots. I'm sure she will be amazed by that and propose to you."
"Eww. Stop your weird fantasies, Jasper."
"Such a killjoy."
"Rosalyn also wouldn't like it if she hears this."
"Tsk, my dear cousin you really don't know Rosalyn. I pity her."
"Pity me since I do have a cousin like you."
He laughed at what I said and continue to bother me until our break ended. It was annoying and he continue to tease me about her during our practices, there was no time that he don't bring her up.
"Jasper, did you switch personalities with Jasmin?"
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"Jasmin refused to talk to me and gave me cold shoulders while you started to tease me with Rosalyn when it was Jasmin's job."
"Telling that Jasmin's job was to tease you were weird. Just admit that you like being teased."
"What? That's all what she did whenever she saw us. You know what? Nevermind. Just stop with all this nonsense. Seriously."
"I don't know anymore."
Jasper scratch his head and left me there. At last, it was finally peaceful.
"Uh, Nicholas."
I sighed and looked to my side and there I saw Jade.
"Sorry, I am disturbing you right."
At least you know. When will my life be peaceful?
"What is it?"
"Ah, tomorrow will be the competition right?"
"Yes."
"We are planning to eat outside, they said that they will come. What about you?"
"I'll pass, we will be having a family dinner."
"A family dinner... I see too bad you won't be able to join us."
"What about the after-party tomorrow?"
"I'll try if I can join everyone."
"Well, you should think it hard."
"Yeah."
"Then, see you tomorrow?"
"Mm. Take care on your way home."
"Yes! You too. Goodbye."
"Yeah. Bye."
After showering, I was resting for a minute inside the locker room before I went to the parking lot. I just waited for dad for a couple of minutes and after that we head straight to the restaurant.
"How's your day, Son?"
"Good. This will be our last day since tomorrow will be the basketball competition."
"Did you already know what school you're competing with?"
"Flinton University."
"Oh, Rosalyn's school. I see."
"How did you know?"
"Your mother is the one who suggested to Jeff that she should enroll her in FU. Remember the time Rosalyn was transferred?"
"Yeah."
"Still not on good terms?"
"Don't know."
Dad laughs and when we get inside the restaurant we are led by a waiter to our table.
"Hi, Mom."
"Nicholas, my son. How's your day?"
"Everything's good, Mom."
"That's good to hear. Let's order now, I'm hungry."
After we ordered food Mom ask some questions. It was a relief that she stop asking questions and talk about their upcoming wedding anniversary.
"Should we just go on a trip?"
"What about Nicholas?"
"I can handle myself mom, I'm already old enough."
"Not that old, boy. You'll always be my baby."
"But I'm your baby before him."
Said dad and mom laughed. Really parents, in front of my pasta?
"Just go on a trip with dad, mom. I'll be fine."
Dad continues to convince mom that they should just go on a trip until we go home. When I opened my phone there are chats on our group chat, they just send tons of their pictures in a restaurant. The cheerleading squad was not complete though because Jade was not present.
I thought she'll come.
Never mind not that I'm interested. When I got bored I scrolled through my account when I saw that Rosalyn was still active.
My eyebrows raised and sighed as I turned off my phone.
The next day I got up so early to jog for a minute. I was panting hard as I sat down on a bench and look at the sky.
Why do I feel like I was not able to get some good sleep?
"Tsk..."
I tried to conditioned myself before I go to the university, and the light exercise seems to help. When I already got into the university I saw a couple of Flinton knight students who were entering our university, and I was distracted when Jade suddenly approaches me.
"Hi, Nicholas!"
"Hello."
"The students of Flinton University already arrive, what do you feel right now? Are you overwhelmed or perhaps nervous?"
"There is no this such nervous in my dictionary. I will just play and that's it."
"Are you that confident that you'll win?"
"I don't know."
"Anyways let's go now!"
She grabbed my arm and pulled me. Students from both universities were looking at us, I don't know why though, and when we got inside our room we were bombarded with questions.
"You two are dating aren't you?"
"Gosh, where did you two go last night?"
"Not attending the party together that suspicious you know!"
"So, what is the real score?"
"Now I know why Nicholas suddenly doesn't want to join us, he wanted to have a date with our Jade here!"
"Gosh, I didn't know that you have a romantic bone!"
"Ah guys, calm down."
"Everyone what are you talking about?"
"Feigning ignorance aren't we? That was really suspicious!"
"I think it was a misunderstanding, I didn't attend last night's dinner party since we have a family dinner outside."
"Yeah, Nicholas does have a family dinner while I didn't attend since I'm feeling tired that night. Please don't assume that we are dating. Nicholas looks uncomfortable you see."
"They already came up with an excuse. Okay, we will keep our mouths shut and pretend nothing happened."
"I don't know what to do with you guys,"
I said and sat on my chair, they all laughed and tease us more.
"You two look together. I'm jealous."
"Yeah. Such a perfect match. We do approve of your relationship!"
"Really guys?"
"Please stop it."
"O my gosh, Jade's face was beat red!"
I look at Jade who was covering her face. She has a pale skin so you can easily notice that her cheeks was red.
"Stop it, everyone. We should get ready now."
"Good luck, Nicholas!"
"Yeah."
I get my uniform and look at Jade.
"I will go first."
"Mm, Good luck."
"Kyahh!"
I sighed when they shrieked there are already students that were looking at our classroom but I ignore them and left. After changing my uniform, I do some light exercise and from afar I already see Jasper's grin.
"What was that?"
"What?"
"A certain rumor saying that you and Jade were not present last night since you two went on a date."
"That was not true. I was having a dinner with my parents."
"Aren't you thinking that she might done it to look like that?"
"Jade?"
"Yeah, of course, she was the girl that was linking to you."
"I don't know. They can think whatever they want."
"Why don't you ask her to be your girlfriend?"
"I don't have plans on having a girlfriend."
"Eh? If you say so."
"PLAYERS PLEASE GET READY. WE WILL START IN A MINUTE."
"Let's go bud."
