CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: I think I like this girl

SCARLETT'S POV
We arrived at the company's building and I let out a gasp on beholding the massive, exquisite skyscraper standing firmly amidst several others in the heart of the city. Of course I've seen it being featured in some commercial videos and magazines but I really didn't expect it to be this huge physically.
"It's amazing sugar, can't believe I'm here looking at and about to step into the renowned headquarters of JP's Enterprise." Skylar gushed beside me and mother chuckled. Dad smiled at me and I smiled back, turning my gaze to stare out the window of the limo as the driver pulled the car into a halt in the vast parking area of the company.
I could see a huge crowd of people outside the building and Mom made me understand that they all consist of several fans of my late mother, some rookie journalists_who wanted to grab a first hand information of the press conference but wouldn't be able to gain entrance in because of their inexperience or low status and several curious citizens.
I mentally prepared for their attacks in form of questions as the guards waiting at the entrance, hurriedly approached the car with Dad's PA, Mr. Finley. Just as he opened the door of the limo and gave a respectful bow to Dad who just stepped out, the crowd rushed us that moment and I felt my head whizz briefly. I'm still not used to this lifestyle I was destined to live. Much to my amusement, Skylar grinned and whispered to me that the storming crowd looked like a swarm of annoying flies.
"Oh Sky," Mom let out a soft chuckle as she heard her. If not for the situation, I would have burst out laughing since.
"Young Miss, welcome." I lifted my gaze to the middle aged PA as he bowed slightly. "Ms. Brooke, it's an honor to meet you again." He smiled at Mom.
"Thank you Mr Lee."
Is it me or did Mom just blush? Like, what the heck is going on?! One look at Sky told me I was right. There seems to be a lot backstory between this two that no one's talking about. Well, let's talk about this some other time.
Presently, as I stepped out of the car, my dark sunglasses on, I ignored the questions that the reporters were throwing at me as the guards shielded us from their reach. I've learned not to answer such impromptu questions of reporters because they never get satisfied. The more you answer, the more questions they got for you. Goodness! They can be so draining...
Moments after we've successfully entered the building, we took the private elevator to the fiftieth floor where I learned, the large conference hall was located.
And then, immediately, we walked into the already filled up hall and I followed Dad to the podium where the microphones and speakers were already mounted. But as I walked, I could feel an unfamiliar piercing gaze on my body. It was so intense I couldn't ignore it but each time I glance around the hall, I couldn't find the source behind that gaze. Of course, the entire crowd of people occupying the hall had their curiosity filled eyes, fixed on me so it could be anyone. But no, I felt it in me. This stare was unusual and definitely not harboring good intentions.
But who was it?
Definitely not my supposed step mom, Harriet, or her daughter. They sat at a corner maintaining a calm appearance which I know was the opposite of how they felt within.
Immediately we walked in, cameras had began flashing like they were set on default and I could feel the eagerness in the eyes of the over fifty reporters present. They obviously couldn't wait to strangle me with their woebegone questions.
Everyone stood up and applauded as Dad climbed up the podium; in respect to him being the Chairman of this great company. My eyes scanned around for my step brother but I couldn't find him. Skylar gave me a supportive grin from where she stood at the back row of seats in the hall while Mom gave me a wink. I returned a small smile to them, feeling at ease from their support as I stood beside Dad.
"Good day everyone." He began. "Thank y'all for making it to this press conference. We hope you'd keep it short as you all know, today is a memorial day for us. My daughter, Heidi Grey, would be introducing herself shortly, please don't be bias with your questions. Thank you." Dad stepped back from the podium; as the crowd applauded him briefly and nodded slightly with a small smile for me to go on.
I took in a sharp breath and walked to the podium.
"Greetings everyone. My name's Scarlett Heidi Grey and I am the legitimate daughter of Late Paige Grey and Chairman Grey." I introduced, keeping my voice firm as I suddenly felt purposeful and powerful energy surge through me. I felt a powerful aura emit from my body as I uttered those words. The aura emitting from me was powerful enough to make everyone stare at me in awe. And just in that moment, I realized something. My mother's spirit has always been with me.
______
"Arrange a meeting with him Min Ha, I'll hear what business proposal JP's Enterprise got to offer that they've not let me be since I came here." Kyle said after the tracker guy gave him a positive response concerning the location of his wristwatch.
He stared with a lazy gaze across his magnificent living area, to the huge wall TV at the live broadcast that was ongoing at the head quarters of JP's Enterprise.
"Min Ha, increase the volume." He said and Min Ha traced his gaze to the TV and immediately increased the volume_as she was also interested on seeing the famous Mystery canal girl being featured in a live broadcast in the company everyone's been rumoring she has ties with. This gotta be the most trending news in all of UK and beyond at the moment.
She was awestruck by the lady's aura, beauty and charisma as she talked, but she wasn't the only one who felt that way.
"My name is Scarlett Heidi Grey and I am the Legitimate daughter of Late Paige Grey and Chairman Grey."
Even though they were watching from the TV, they both could feel her compelling aura and there was no denying the fact this mystery lady, meant business. As much as they were awestruck by her, what they and every other individual watching this live broadcast couldn't understand was the way she introduced herself.
How and what did she mean by her being the Legitimate daughter of the chairman? Wasn't Paige's daughter buried along side her many years ago? What's the story behind this young woman? However, her striking resemblance to the late city's *fairy queen* couldn't be denied. Was the entire public deceived 22 years ago?
However the questions troubled them, they knew they'll be getting the answer soon.
Kyle couldn't comprehend why he had his jaw dropping as he stared at her. His heart was suddenly begin to beat unusually in a way it never had before. He was even sitting upright in his chair, as though he couldn't control himself. Probably because of the suspense and the chill that came with her words.
"Now, I think I like this girl." He uttered out without thinking, openly expressing what his mind was screaming within him.
