Father to Daughter

NARRATIVE
"Amelia look, someone's here to see you."
Amelia looked up from the pile of files on her desk, glanced briefly at her computer before trailing her gaze around the newsroom she was in.
Her colleague, Lavender, sitting opposite smiled at her, tilting her head slightly to the side indicating that Amelia look behind her. On seeing her gesture, Amelia turned her gaze behind her only to see Susan grinning widely at her.
"Susan! What a surprise girl, you didn't say you were coming over my office today." Amelia said, a pleased smile over her face.
Susan's her good friend who works at the research department of JP's Enterprise, although she's a junior staff. Also, considering Amelia had visited her at the company not quite long ago, she didn't expect that Susan would check on her today.
"Yeah," Susan sighed, pulling out a chair beside Amelia and sitting on it. She's a beautiful blonde with nice freckles.
"What's wrong? You don't seem cheerful." Amelia noted.
"Nothing much Amy, just work. You know, being a junior staff and all that, my superior seems to find it fun ordering me around to do his bids than having me focus on my job." Susan said, shaking her head slightly_as though, finding her situation pathetic. She did actually. Amelia chuckled slightly.
"You mean Cameron still does that? I'm telling you Susan, that guy is into you." She said, her light hazel eyes dancing with mischief. She was teasing Susan because she knew how well Susan detests her Boss who she thought_was too irresponsible to her liking.
"Not now Amy. Puh-lease, not him." Susan drawled. "But seriously, because of his overbearing attitude I'm yet to have a promotion even when I've been working at JP's Enterprise closely three years!" She sighed again, pushing some strands of hair off her face.
"Anyway, since you're really busy, I didn't think Cameron gave you such liberty to be here at the moment." Amelia said, smilingly.
"Don't even get me started. Girl, you'll cry for my sake if you see the pile of files on my desk." Amelia raised a brow at that. Last she remembered, Susan always had a huge pile of untouched files on her desk every other day. "This time around, it's double the size you saw at my desk the day you came over."
"You don't mean it." Amelia laughed.
"Seriously. Amy you're so lucky. At least you get to work at your own pace each day not having an overgrown man yell at you for basically no reason, on a daily basis. Sometimes, I just want to send in my resignation letter but when I think about the pay, I give up on that quest. I just hope someone replaces him soon, preferably a female_though I know that may never happen."
"I feel for you girl. Anyway, how's the people at the top doing? you know..." Amelia gave Susan a knowing look, one that made Susan swat her arm slightly.
"You this reporter girl, always wanting to find out everything." She teased.
"Can't help it. You know how it is in here." Amelia said, more like in a whisper. Susan smiled slightly, she understands what Amelia means. It's really, not so easy being a reporter too. Especially when there are many others aiming to make it to the top too.
"I understand. Listen, this is only a rumor within the company but you know what is said about an element of truth being found in any rumor." Amelia nodded eagerly, her ears perked at attention and her curiosity level at its peak. "You know well the story of that canal incident, recently the Chairman's first daughter is rumored to be the acting CEO of JP's Enterprise." Amelia's eyes widened in surprise.
"But she's only been...How about young Mr. Grey?" She whispered back.
"Hmm, that's what I thought too. Anyway, I believe we'll find out the details soon." Susan said and Amelia nodded slightly, this was huge news but since it's only a baseless rumor, she didn't dare write anything on it.
In that moment, a memory from her encounter with Scarlett Grey about two days ago, came to mind and she subconsciously shuddered in reminisce of Scarlett's piercing gaze.
"My lunch break should be over now. I have to return and get back to the cumbersome heap laying on my desk before that annoying man starts his troubles again." Susan said after a brief glance at her wristwatch.
"That's true." Amelia nodded. "Thank you Susan, will call you." She said.
Both girls raised their gaze only to find Lavender's suspicious stare on them. Although momentarily startled, the girls managed a cryptic smile at her.

"Finley tells me you're making remarkable progress on the task I assigned you. Is that right?" Jamie Grey asked, with a smile at his first daughter. They were at his office.
"Yes Dad." Scarlett smiled, "Before the week runs out, Lexi and I would be done. My lecture session with Madame Freya is also going great. She says, in about a week more, we'll be done."
"That's absolutely impressive. I didn't know you could adapt that easily." He said and Scarlett grinned.
"Ain't I my mother's daughter?"
"Certainly, you are." Jamie smiled, he could feel his late wife's aura around their girl. Jamie couldn't be more grateful Scarlett survived and hadn't passed on with her Mom, decades ago. Otherwise, life might never have been meaningful to him. Once again, there's someone most dear to his heart who he must protect at all cost.
"Are you done for the day? Would you be coming home tonight?" Scarlett asked inquisitively. Jamie reclined on his chair and rubbed a brow briefly.
"I know you must have felt really lonely since your friend left, Heidi." Scarlett pursed her lips and nodded briskly. "I'm sorry about that. There's been a lot to handle of recent. But since you insist, I'll be coming home tonight." The moment he said the words, Scarlett had leaped over her chair opposite him and now had her arms wrapped over his shoulders.
"Yayyy!" She squealed. Her excitement made Jamie Grey chuckled.
"Ain't you such a baby?" He pat her back.
"Mm mhm," She hummed. "I'm your baby. Ain't that right?"
"Of course you are." He laughed.
Right in the spree of the happy father to daughter moment, the office door opened and Imogen who had come to see her father unannounced, walked in the office but wasn't mentally prepared to see the scene before her.
