Chapter 4
3rd Person Pov
Luan's lips curved into a smile as he spoke with his friends Ace, Xavier, and Yurix. They were in his office, conversing with one another. Through the glass wall, Solstice watched them.
"How I wish I could be one of the reasons he smiles someday," she murmured. Her heart pounded with a sharp sting, because she knew it was impossible for him to smile because of her. She had never seen him smile in front of her. She was well aware that she was the reason for his lack of smile.
She returned her gaze to her desk and resumed her work. Making herself busy and tired all over again.
Her birthday is coming, and her father planned to throw a party for her. She smiled since she had given Luan an invitation card earlier this morning and he had accepted it. She thought that since he accepted it, he'd go to her birthday party. Her mood was lifted by the thought of him attending her party, and she was happy.
She smiled as she worked, and she was eager to finish it as soon as possible so she could go on to the other files.
Luan noticed Solstice smiling as she worked while he was talking with his friends. As he watched her smile like an idiot, his brow furrowed.
An employee came and knocked on Luan's office door, and he let him in. The employee placed the files on his desk, and before the employee walked out, Luan stopped him.
“Can you see those files? “Luan indicated the files with his finger. His hands moving and pointing towards Solstice, "give it to her, “ he added
The employee snatched the files and rushed out of Luan's office, holding the files in his hands. After that, he handed the files over to Solstice.
Solstice looked at the employee, “ what's this? “
“Sir told me to give it to you, “ the employee said to her.
Luan clenched his jaw, irritated at the sight of Solstice and the employee conversing. He marched up to his office door and pushed it open.
"Stop talking and go back to work!!" he yelled as soon as he opened the door. He walked back to his friends after slamming the door shut.
“Oooh~ someone is jealous, “ Ace smirked at Luan, teasing him.
"I'm not jealous, they're at work, and they should be working, not talking," Luan retorted.
“Oh, but why did you give her the files? Isn't that the one you should do? " Xavier asked, out of curiosity.
As he sat down in his seat, Luan said, "I just handed her that to get rid of that annoying smile on her face."
Xavier mocked Luan, "Annoying smile or you're just worried she's smiling because someone made her smile."
"Shut up, why do you think I'm worried? It doesn't matter to me whether or not someone makes her smile. Just don't make me see that annoying face," he said, glaring at Xavier.
"Okay, okay, calm down. You appear to be planning to murder me," Xavier said, lifting both hands as if he was surrendering in a battle.
"Shut up," Luan grumbled as he began working on his files. "Can you tell me when your cloth designer will arrive? Xavier, you know I've had a busy day. “
Xavier sighed,"you just told me to shut up, and now you're asking me. He'll be here soon."
Luan simply rolled his eyes at Xavier after a brief exchange.
A man and his bag had just hurried in from the elevator. As he ran, he accidentally bumped Solstice, who was handing out files to the others.
As the man bumped her, Solstice flinched. "Wahh!" she exclaimed as the files on her arms fell on the floor. “Don't you have eyes?!! " she screamed at him while gathering the files.
“Calm down huhu, it's me Sol. Sorryyy!!!“ the man apologized. Solstice noticed a familiar face when she raised her eyes. Carl was the one who accidentally bumped her.
“Ehhh??Carl, why are you here, “ Solstice asked him.
"I'm here to give your husband a cloth design," Carl explained. "Maybe this is for your birthday because he said he'll be attending a party."
Solstice smiled widely, delighted that Luan would be able to attend her birthday celebration. She was relieved to learn that he had prepared for her party.
“Really? " she inquired, there was a smile on her face. Because of what she just heard, she can't stop smiling.
“Awieee,” Carl nudged her by his elbow.
Luan peered outside through his glass wall once more and spotted Solstice talking with Carl.
"Xavier, get your fucking designer out of this building before I blow his head off," Luan said, causing Xavier and Ace to stare out through the glass wall.
"Shit, wait, they're just talking,” Xavier murmured as he texted Carl to come in now.
Carl received a notification on his phone, which he opened to find Xavier's message. "Oh girl, I have to go now,I'll see you soon," he said as he waved goodbye and entered Luan's office.
As soon as Carl walked into the office, the tension in the room was noticeable. Carl was terrified by an eerie silence. He raised his head and looked Luan in the eyes. It was filled with rage.
“Psst Carl! “ Xavier called Carl
“Ooh? What happened? Why so quiet, “ Carl asked
“Why are you talking to Luan's wi—”
"Business partner, not wife," Luan interrupted Xavier.
“She's a family so why not?“ Carl looked at Luan.
“What do you mean? She's an only child, “ Xavier asked, confused to what Carl said.
“I'm like baba's kid too and one of her friends “ Carl smiled at them. “Should we start now? “ he added.

Solstice gathered the courage to approach Luan and ask if she might join him on his ride home. She doesn't own a car and has never driven before. It'll be difficult for her to find a taxi because it was pouring.
She knocked on the glass door and pushed it open, peeking inside and smiling at Luan.
"What do you want?" Luan inquired, sighing. He shifted his attention away from his files and onto Solstice.
Solstice looked at him with a tiny little hope in her eyes,“uhm can I go home with you? It's raining and it'll be hard for me to find a—”
Luan interrupted her, "no, I have somewhere to go. Go home by yourself. You may go out now"
He lied. He had nowhere to go. He simply does not want to be with her and prefers to see her suffer.
“Ohh, okay, thank you, sorry for disturbing you“ she nodded her head and smiled at him before closing the door.
Solstice packed her belongings and exited the building. She doesn't have an umbrella, but she was able to find a place to shelter near the road while waiting for a taxi.
While she waited, she noticed Luan's car exiting the parking lot. She flashed a little smile, hoping it would come to a halt in front of her. It was approaching her, it was coming— oh, it was driving straight and didn't stop in front of her.
She sighed and checked her wristwatch. It was now 6 p.m. Still waiting for a taxi, she leaned against the wall.
After 30 minutes, she decided to walk home. There are no taxis available, and if there were, they would already be full. There were people who were waiting for a taxi too, she does not want them to go home late, so she lets them take the taxi.
She braced herself and began walking in the rain. Her bag was soaked, but luckily not on the inside. Her hair and clothes were also drenched.
She was walking and getting drenched from the rain, hoping she wouldn't become ill as a result. Because their home was quite far from their workplace, she had a long walk ahead of her.
When she arrived home, it was almost 9 p.m. Her legs were trembling because of walking and running for more than 2 hours. She was drenched from head to toe. She dashed upstairs to the second floor, panting, and entered the wrong room in her eagerness to get some rest.
She went into Luan's room instead of hers by mistake. She noticed him in his bed, calmly and comfortably sleeping. Her chest ached, she was there outdoors, running and walking in the rain just to get home since she couldn't get a taxi, while he slept here soundly, unconcerned or worried about her.
She took her time leaving the room so she wouldn't wake him up. She walked to her room and took off all of her clothes before going to the bathroom
She switched on the shower and let the water run down her body. Her hand was clutched on her chest as she gazed down. Her eyes welled up with tears.
“I deserve this right? I deserve to be treated like this, “ she mumbled as tears were flowing out from her eyes.
“I deserve this but I will not give up on him. “
"If I could just go back in time, I wouldn't choose you so you wouldn't have to deal with me, Luan, and you wouldn't have to go through this."
A thought occurred to Solstice, "Go back in time." Even if it was impossible, she planned to build a time machine so she could go back in time.
It's a crazy idea, but if it means she can change her decision, she'll go for it.Download Novelah App
