Chapter 57 I Need Your Help

Alexander POV
My gaze vetoed to stay away from her figure,, so I tolerated my eyes to linger on her. It was so hard to believe, but the obvious was striking that she's not Kiara. My Kiara was much more pretty than her with a full black silky smooth hair while she was a blonde, I despise blonde. However, their hair was the only difference, they were just so identical. The same complexion, stature, posture, stepping, everything. Even her lips were as soft as Kiara's. “Are you sure you are Amelia's real mother?” Heeding granny's question, I readjusted on my seat, fixing my eyes on the woman. I really have an interest in this matter, moreover, I've never seen such identical twins as this before in my entire life. She peeked at everyone's face then looked back at Granny, “Yes, I'm Amelia's real mother” She answered with faux confidence. Granny tuts then rose to her feet, “Then I'm confident you are aware that Amelia has a twin sister” Granny ridiculed, striding gently toward her. Immediately Granny finished her words, she became completely nonplussed, with her eyes dilated. She slowly got on her feet, abiding by Granny's gaze.
“What do you mean by that? I'm Amelia's biological mother, and she doesn't have a twin sister” Her voice was very low and had no confidence in it. I scoffed, putting my elbow on the armrest of the mahogany sofa I was sitting on with my hand supporting my cheek. 'It's apparent, she's not the real mother' Granny, whose back was to me, took a step forward, closing up the little space between them. “Tell me the truth now while I'm being nice, young woman. I'm sure you're not naive enough to think I'll take things handily like the last time” She put emphasis on the first words, “I don't understand what you're saying, old woman” The woman retorted and made to walk away. However, granny grabbed her arm then slapped her hard across her cheek. The head of the maids and the lady quickly jumped on their feet, looking anxious. The girl particularly. She intended to move closer, but as soon as she saw my gaze, she retreated her step. “Do you think I'm joking with you?” Granny scowled at the woman, who was still looking stunned as she subconsciously touched her face. I'm certain the area where she was slapped would be stinging by now. Serves her right though, she better hurry and spit out the truth before I interfere. “Will you say the truth now, or you want me to get the police?” Granny questioned coldly. This time, the woman quickly shook her head sideways, “I'll tell you the truth” She suffocated on her words as water streamed down her cheeks.
She raised her chin and stared at the girl, then swallowed subconsciously. “I'm not Amelia's real mother” She confessed, lowering her head. “I've always known this since the first time I met you, so tell me what I don't know” Granny dictated severely. No doubt, this woman is an awful person, Granny conveyed this cruel part of her only when she's with bad people. “Several years ago,” She began in an unsteady voice. Granny turned around and returned to her previous seat, beside me. “When I was longingly expecting to become a mother but all to no avail, the Lord was never going to listen to my prayers” She paused to wipe the tears on her face with the hem of her blue blouse. “My husband and I visited different hospitals,, but their feedbacks were similar. They keep telling us nothing was wrong with me and neither my husband” I shut my eyes lazily, can't she just bring us up to speed already? “It was really frustrating, everyone knows that the fruit of marriage is children. I was getting older but didn't have a child of my own just like every other woman out there” The woman continued, I rolled my eyeballs away from her body, and it ceased at her. Her head was lowered as she wept softly. Observing this, I felt a tight knot in my chest. Does she have to cry? My lips formed into a straight line, thinking of what to do. Gosh! I wouldn't have been affected by her tears if she's not looking like Kiara.
Glaring impatiently at the woman, “Could you just summarize the story?” I butt in, my voice was soft yet domineering. She nodded twice then began again, “Some years later, I was walking out of our family doctor's office when a familiar matron came to me and asked if I would like to adopt a child. And without a moment's hesitation, I answered yes” Finishing her words, she burst into a fresh wave of tears. “So, you're not my real mother?” The head of the maid, who also had tears filled in her eyes, drew her into her arms, patting her. “I'm so sorry, Amelia. Please forgive me” The woman cried so hard. “Did you ever go see the matron again after she gave you the child?” Granny spoke up after a long time. “No, I didn't” Granny shook her head with disappointment then uttered, “Such an ungrateful soul” And with that, she stood up, and I also did the same. “We'll have to visit the hospital soon, and you're coming with us, so get ready” Granny notified, and she nodded vigorously in affirmative. “Come on now, Amelia, stop crying. You should have known someone as heartless as she can never be your mother” Granny affirmed, not willing to hide how aggrieved she was.
I seated myself in the driver's seat, then drew a deep breath to regain my equanimity. Looking at the rearview mirror, Granny, and others had also hopped into the car. The driver shut the car door and veered around to the driver's side. Suddenly, Kiara's phone started ringing inside the central console. Staring at the caller ID, my face turned deathly pale. What do I tell this woman again this time? Directly, an idea boycotted me and for the first time in weeks now, a natural smile appeared on my lips. Snappily, I pushed the car door open then got off. Fortunately, their car hasn't taken off yet but was ready to. Raising my hand to the car as I walked closer, the engine went dead immediately. I opened the backseat door, stooped my body, and hinted for the girl to come down. Thank goodness, she has stopped crying. She stared at my face, I'm sure she understood my gesture but could by no means understand why I would be asking her to come down. “What's it, Alexander?” Granny asked, I looked at her and shook my head. “Nothing granny, I just want her to ride with me,” I told her and a bright smile arose on her lips instantly. “That's good. Come on now dear, get down, get down” She said eagerly, practically pushing her out of the car. After she got down, I waved at Granny and the car took off at once.
I watched as their car become smaller then turned to her, swiftly. “I need your help” I stated flatly. She slowly put up her head to look at me, “I need you to speak with my girlfriend's mom, she has been worried sick about her daughter for so long and I want to her to be rest assured now” I explained in a gentle tone. “Aren't you going to tell her anything?” She was puzzled, I shook my head negatively. “I'm confident my Kiara will be here soon, so I feel it would be better not to arouse unnecessary anxiety” She nodded in understanding. “Now come with me” She kept on my tail till we got to where my car was parking. I got in the driver's seat while she got in the passenger seat. I picked the phone and dialed the last number, “Please I want you to give in your best, don't forget you're about to speak with your mom, don't let her be suspicious of anything” I clarified, then outstretched the phone to her, not after setting the phone on speaker. “Hello, Kiara” Her frightened voice blared through the phone after the first ring. “Hello, Mom,” She said heartily, “Why are you doing this to me, Kiara? Where have you been? Didn't your boyfriend relay my message to you? Do you have an impression of how worried I have been? I don't even want to listen to your explanations, I want you to fly back to Arizona before this week runs out” Hearing her dominant words, I plopped my elbow on the steering and covered my face. “Come on, mom, you can't do this to me either. At least let me explain myself” She pouted, like a typical child would do when requesting a favor from her mother. In the other end, her mom heaved an intense sigh then speak up, “Go ahead” She grinned, not even peeking at my face for what to say. “Actually mom, a lot of good things has been happening in my life lately, all in gratitude to Alexander. He has really been a great man,” She conversed merrily, one would think she knew who she was conversing with. I stared at her, my eyes wide open and full of hearts. She's damn good.
