Chapter 63 Marriage Plans Have Begun

Staring at each other as if in a stalemate, his expression was deathly solemn, his eyes were dim and empty. Also, there was a strange, unsettling smile at the corner of his mouth. “I can never forget it, dear. I always remember that we're both putting on an act for the time being” He said softly, taking his hand away from my mouth and my waist. Heaving a deep sigh of relief, “Staying together isn't part of the plan, sir” I uttered with a soft scowl, walking backward, leaving a considerable distance between us. Wearing a sardonic smile on his face, “Are you being serious now? Tell me, do you plan to have a separate room after we got married?” His voice was bone-chilling with ridicule. My hands began to tremble violently as I stood stunned, looking at him with undisguised disgust. “We can stay in the same room sir, but not in the same bed” I informed him in a good nature mood, suppressing the anger in my chest. He shrugged, passing by me, “I don't know about that. But just so you know, I can't lay on the floor” With that, he dallied into the bathroom. “Then I'll sleep on the couch,” I told myself, pouting my lips.
In a matter of moments, I found my way into the kitchen and saw her stirring the content in the cooking pot. I put on a bright smile then walked in fully, “What can I help with, mom?” I asked her, standing right beside her and glancing at the content on the stove. She raised her head and looked at me adorably, “There's no need for that, sweetheart. In fact, you need to relax. Both you and son-in-law,” By the time she had finished her statement, a mischievous smirk was already glimmering on her face. My throat tightened at her choice of description, son-in-law. I managed to squeeze out a smile, then took a few steps away from her to the basin. “You know, Kiara, I missed us being like this” She began, pouring water into the pot now. “Can you remember our last discussion here in the kitchen before you left for Texas?” My lips thinned into a tight frown as I sought an answer. “Hmm, I can't remember, mom. What was it about?” She narrowed her eyes a bit, “You can't remember, and you already fulfilled it” She teased, glancing at my face from time to time. I shut my eyes briefly, I just pray this woman doesn't get suspicious. “You know, I'm so happy for you, Kiara. I can see Handsome also loves you as much as you do” Hearing these, my fingers suddenly clutched on the spoon I was washing. “Tell me something, did you tell him the nature of your old job?” She asked ambiguously in a gossipy tone. I only stared at her, what job? “Come on now, Kiara. You've promised to tell me absolutely everything without leaving a stone unturned, but now you're staring at me like you're not going to touch some stones” She whined like a kid, nudging my arm continuously. My unsteady heart thumped wildly, I'm starting to regret this idea.
It's obvious she and Kiara had a good relationship and to be honest, I'm so envious. I never had this kind of relationship with anyone before. After gulping for the third time, I opened my mouth to pronounce a word… “Miss Kiara!” I was interrupted by the feminine voice from the entrance, and I couldn't help but secretly heaved a little sigh of relief. She was looking much younger than I am, her blonde hair was combed in a pigtail. Getting closer, “You're welcome, ma'am,” She greeted warmly, having a friendly smile on her heart-shaped face. “Thanks, dear. I hope you've been good?” I asked amiably, she nodded vigorously, lowering the grocery bags she was holding. “Now, go rest, dear. Hannah will take it from here” Mom exhorted. Nodding my head without a moment's hesitation, afraid that she might find out soon. I picked a hand towel, dried my hands, then left the kitchen. Knocking softly on the door for the third time, I didn't get a response. I twisted my lips, perhaps he had fallen asleep. I bent the doorknob and set my foot inside. Looking straight to the bed, truly, he was asleep. Carefully, I counted my footsteps toward the bed. His roman nose, prominent cheekbones, and sexy lips were so beautiful. His outstanding features made him look so handsome. A handsome jerk. Looking down to his broad chest, which was covered in a white shirt. My lips slowly curled up in a soft smile, it was Kiara's portrait lying on his chest. 'Lord, if possible Kiara is still alive, then let her be found soon' I prayed bitterly in my heart, staring at his parted lips as he sleeps soundly like a newborn baby. Suddenly, the vibrating sound of a phone jarred in the quiet room. I rushed to the table in the room before the sound would disturb his sleep, that was my cellphone. Grabbing it and staring at the caller ID, I felt inexplicably nervous. It was Callie calling. 'Why is she calling?' I gulped hard, this is what I've always wanted, to have a good talk with her, but why am I feeling like this now? Is it because I feel in my heart that I betrayed her? Clutching my dress in my fist, I picked the call. “Hi, Callie” I choked between my words, “Hi, sister, how have you been?” Her voice was full of excitement, like we never had a misunderstanding. I stayed silent, I could by no means understand her sudden transition. “Desmond and I talked, and he already explained everything that transpired between you two that day” She continued, and my eyes protruded, he already talked to her before leaving? “I'm so sorry for not listening to you, Amelia. I should have known Desmond is a jerk, always tend to hurt others feeling” A sense of bitterness arose in my heart as my eyes filled with tears. “Anyway, it's all good now. I forgave him, but we can never be together again, and I'm glad he's fine with it” I nibbled at my lower lip, having no words to say. “I learnt from mom you're out of the country. I wish we can see and talk once you get back. Bye,” She hung up immediately, without waiting for my words.
“Is there a problem?” I heard his hoarse voice from my back. Quickly, I wiped off the tears on my cheeks with the back of my palm, then turned around to face him on the bed. Shaking my head sideways, “Nothing, sir. Can we talk to Granny now?” I asked softly. Callie had said she heard from mom that I'm not in the country, then definitely she and Granny had met. “Granny would have called if there is good news” He retorted, crawling out of the bed. “Let's just call her, at least” He stared at me faintly, then eventually fetched his phone from his knicker pocket. Pressing his phone briefly, he touched the speaker icon on the screen. She picked up at the second ring, “Hi, grandson. I'm so sorry I didn't give you a call. I've been so busy. We left for the hospital as soon as you guys left. I hope you arrived safely? Where's Amelia? And I hope Kiara's mom hasn't gotten suspicious?” I chuckled at how she had said a series of words in a breath. “Breath, Granny, where are you now? Did you find out anything in the hospital?” There was a long and deep sigh at the end of the phone before Granny spoke up, “No Alexander, the matron who gave Amelia to that witch is late now,” My heart shattered into a million pieces immediately. “However, we're quite fortunate because the director of the hospital gave us the contact and home address of the late matron only daughter” I breathe out deeply, sharing a glance with him. “We'll take care of things after the marriage, son. But for now, don't tell Kiara's mom anything. Just get back here soon” She advised, sounding exhausted. “Okay, Granny. You should be home now, right?” He asked cautiously. “No, Alexander. The marriage plans have begun already” I pursued my lips while he rolled his eyeballs. “Take good care of Amelia and yourself too” After finishing her few words, she hung up the call. “What are we going to do now?” I asked him with an exasperated sigh.
Sitting in the dining room with him beside me, we were both silent, not talking to each other but as soon as we saw her coming out of the kitchen, we struck a conversation. “Come on, babe, I said I'm sorry” He twiddled at the strands of my hair while I pretended I was annoyed. “You're repeating this, Alexander” I pouted, swatting his hand away. She let out a discreet cough, “Mind if I know what the matter is?” She said, playfully. “Kiara is so stubborn, Aunt” He countered, trying to pull me into his chest, but I keep restraining. “Can you hear that, mom?” I looked up at her, giving off the impression of annoyance. However, she was looking so shocked as she stared at me. My heart began to throb in my chest as Mr. Alexander and I exchanged a glance. Oh no, has she found out something?
