She's Afraid

Chapter 30: She's Afraid
Fera's Point of View
She kept scratching her palm while Fred was looking straight at her. They were in Fred's pad. She sat across the table and her hands rested on the table.
"You knew this would happen," Fred started.
"Of course,"
"And this means?"
"Don't ask a question that we both know." She cast a glare at him but he wasn't bothered.
"I am making it too obvious cause I felt like you have forgotten about them."
"Fred please, let's not talk about it now." She stood but he immediately stepped in to stop her.
"Then when? When you are already dead?" She sat again and crossed her arm.
"You can give them the money they need." She stubbornly spoke and looked at the table.
"When did you lose your logic, Fera? You think that would end there?"
"You must be the one who's losing its logic, Fred. You know there's no way out from this sh*t. They would keep on hunting me, what I am trying to imply is to give them what they want and I'll live in peace that quick."
"And until when would that peace would last?" He asked which made her shut her mouth.
"Short-term solution will never end the cycle," he stated and Fera raised her eyebrow.
"And something would end your so call cycle?"
"Of course! Fera! wake up, death is running after you and you seemed unaffected. They killed your mother and recently your father, who else would be the next?" He almost shouted his last phrase but immediately regret it when he saw her teary-eyed eyes.
She slowly looked him in the eyes. "No one will kill me, Fred. No one, I can assure you that." He looked at her suspiciously.
"Are you hiding something from me?"
"Why would I? The only person that could destroy me is me and you. The only leaving creatures that knew me very well." She stood again determined to leave.
"I am wide awake, Fred. I know what is happening and I know that I can't do anything about this." She bravely walked passed him, as she held the doorknob he watched her and cross his arm.
"You know that you can stop this."
"Please keep reminded that I am sixteen, I may talk fine and always seem one step ahead of everyone else, you know that I am terrified on the inside. I am your cousin, you should know that well." And she shut her door behind her.
Loraly was waiting outside, she was the one who notified him about her.
"Miss, are you alright?"
"Breathing," she walked straight out of his house while Loraly was walking fiercely after her.
"Your driver is waiting outside, are you sure you don't need any bodyguards?"
"If Fred will do as I say, then everything is fine." She opened the main door for her and they walked together to the gate, and she saw her car parked outside.
Before entering her car, Lora held her arm. "I am worried, Miss. Please keep me updated."
"Sure, no need to worry though." And she got in the car. She didn't need to tell the driver and they drove off. She looked behind her and saw Lora watching them and a small smile tug on her lips. 'You care too much, Lora. Even you know you shouldn't.'
Soon she got to the school and walked straight to her room, everyone noticed her limousine and looked at Fera from head to toe. As expectedly they started their juice chitchats. She did that for a childish motive, she didn't have time for their pity bullying and that limousine would shut their gut to wrong her.
"Good morning, ma'am." She greeted to get her teacher's attention since she was late and she was in the middle of her discussion.
"Good morning, honey get in."
The only unattended seat was next to Nick so she head there and sat peacefully. As the discussion ran dryly she noticed his multiple glances. The discussion has ended and he finally got the chance to talk to her.
"Fera,"
"Yes?" she asked and they walked to the school canteen.
"Are you okay?"
"Of course what is to not?" he was eyeing him worriedly while she was acting as if nothing happened.
"About yesterday-"
"Nothing happened yesterday, forget about it please." He was instantly cut by her and never even had a chance to ask a question.
"Why?"
"Nothing has to be asked, move on." He had no choice but to accept her decision, he was very careful not to be on her bad side.
The day ended shortly until they got into their apartment. Her apartment was usually quiet, doing her school work and stubbornly setting aside all her life issues. She couldn't face it for now, or she didn't want to. She did everything to avoid thinking about it and while she was too invested in her schoolwork work someone knocked. Her lips instantly drew into a smile.
She knew it was Nick so she went to open it.
"Hey," her lively feeling went down as soon as she saw his weak smile. She returned with a weak smile too.
"How are you?" he asked and she already knew where it was heading.
"Fine," she answered when she usually answered it in a rhetorical phrase. She let him in and sat on her couch so him.
"I already know who you are." That was what she didn't expect. Her heart immediately tightened and started beating too fast.
"Nothing is to be shocked." She cooly answered but on the inside, she was beyond nervous and taken aback.
"About your parents..." He couldn't finish what he wanted to say, he knew how would it hurt her.
"I am tired...and sleepy, do you need anything else?" she said.
But they both know it was a lie, who would sleep at seven-thirty?
"I can help you."
She stared at him as if he had said unbelievable words and she started laughing forcefully.
"Help for what?"
"For your parent's justice-"
"No!"
