Chapter 39: Headlines Nick’s Pov HE was yawning as he was walking to his fridge, his smile never left his lips while planning his day with Fera. He was planning a coffee date at the newly opened coffee shop near their apartment. He started preparing his breakfast and made it for Fera too. Then a siren of a police mobile entered his ears, he walked to his window and checked what was happening. He saw his landlady talking to the policemen and after a few exchanges of words, she pointed to Fera’s apartment. Lines had formed on his forehead, he waited and saw the policemen climb up to their floor. Then they went to Fera’s apartment, he went out and saw them knocking on her door. “What is going on?” asked he. Before anyone could answer the door went open and revealed Fera in her pajamas, with messy hair and half-opened eyes. She literally just woke up. “Yes?” Someone suddenly grabbed his arm and pulled him away from them. He turned his head and saw mama Tes. “What is going on, Mama Tes?” The policeman was talking to her telling her that she has the right to present her lawyer. “She’s a criminal.” He laughed unbelievably and took her hand off him, “ To much gossip isn’t good sometimes.” He said and walked back to them but they were holding Fera and escorting her to their mobile. “Fera! Fera! What’s going on?” His panic rose when Fera looked at him with no emotion. “Sir, are you sure about this? What is this all about?” Yet no one was listening until they drove away. He turned to his landlady. “Here,” she handed him a newspaper and his eyes fell on the headline. “The Killer Heiress,” after reading the first statement in the newspaper, his jaw fell. The highlighted quote was too much, “An unnamed whistle blower stated that he heard the two gunshots resounded at their house and every house staff of Fuentes was on life, he was hundred percent sure that the family was alone on December 13, 2021, night. No one was ever seen that arrive in the village that night until at exactly 1:30 a girl in a hood was seen walking on the street out of the village.” “This is insane,” all he could say. “Insanely truth, I still remember when she showed here at three am. Here, read this part, she wore a black hooded jacket and denim fitted jeans.” Mama Tes said but he only shook his head. “Impossible, do you think that she could do that? I know her better than this editor!” “You like her, your judgment is blinded by attraction, haven’t you noticed her nervousness in the crowd, she’s unstable and restless? She rarely leaves that house and avoids me as much as possible. We were both there when she was sick, you’re not blind to see her dark paintings around, almost all of them were bloody-” “-Shut Up!” he cut her off which made her step back, “She wasn’t restless, she calm as f*ck. And you were taking care of her that time and you saw how fragile she was. I can’t believe you!” His voice had roused and stormed to his apartment. While she was left speechless. “Love is just poisonous as it use to be.” She only commented after he slammed his door. She quietly walked down when she heard a rush of steps so she turned her head back and saw Nick approaching with a backpack and then passing her. “I hope this little boy found his right way.” The landlady said. On the other hand, Nick hurriedly went to his grandparents' house, he went straight to his room, and sat on his computer chair. But he noticed his shoes under the table were perfectly placed, but never did that, he would usually drop his shoes there. He stood up and ran to his cabinet. “Sh*t!” He cursed when he saw all of his gathered evidences were missing. He had been investigating her parent's death and all he got was the retrieved footage of her walking out of their village, her hood, the gun, and a few bullets at her apartment. All of it was inclining her to her parent's death. But he knew she couldn’t do such a thing. He has faith in her, the Fera he knew was incapable of doing that. “Grandma! Lola Clarita!” He called her while running out of his room. “Kingston! What the hell!” “Who stole it? Who went into my room? Did someone break in here?” He was holding her hand and asking her aggressively. Drop's pf perspiration started tracing down his face. “Calm down, boy.” His grandfather said while approaching them and the cane was in his left hand. “I lost something, Lolo. Someone took it. It was just in my room, who went into the room?” “What did you lose?” His grandmother asked. “Her-” He stopped mid-way and harshly closed his eyes in frustration. “Her what, son?” she was confusedly asking and worried about him. “Something very important things that should be just in my room.” He instead said but he noticed his grandpa’s stares at him. “You're not doing any something, I hope Nick.” Lola Clarita said in her warning voice. “What? No! I swear. I’m not doing anything this time.” He turned to walk back to his room and checked it again. “Then why can’t you tell me what is missing, no one went to your room. You strictly prohibit even a cleaner from entering your room. And no one ever broke into our house she said while following him. “Then all of it must be here, but my cabinet now is empty.” “Nothing seemed missing in here, very well fin but a bit dusty. Everything is in the right place.” She commented. “Not my shoes, I never placed it that way.” His eyes widen after pointing his shoes under his computer desk. “My datas.” But he found his data complete, nothing was missing. All his projects were there, researched informations. Still he went to his recent activities. And it showed there that he opened the file about Fera’s case yesterday at twelve am when he was at his apartment that time. “Someone copied this file. Tell me no one broke in here at twelve night.” “Fera,” Lolo Nikolai read the title and looked at him. “What about Fera, Kingston?”
