Chapter 48: Probable Witness Ben’s POV He checked his phone to check for any updates from Nick. But he saw nothing so he went to the hospital security system and watched where he was. Then he saw Nick out of the room with Lora. “I missed something.” He mumbled and searched the footage of the previous hours and saw the footage of Fera waking up. ‘Scared that the killer might die?’ The first words she spoke since she woke up stopped them. ‘Ironic.’ She even commented when she heard no response. ‘What the hell are you talking about? No one is a killer, I know you didn’t do that.’ Nick took a step closer and tried to hold her hand but she moved it away. ‘Miss Fera, how are you feeling? I know this is hard but I am doing everything I can to get you out of this situation. I’m sorry you have to be in here.’ Lora said with a straight back and even lower her head to show respect. ‘No need, Lora. You have worked enough for my family. Do yourself a favor and leave it. I have prepared your resignation payment. I have added small gifts too, you can now do all you want. I am cutting the ties between us.’ She said straight without even blinking. As if she had planned it well. ‘But Miss Fera-’ ‘No buts, you're fired.’ Ben literally dropped his jaw when he heard her say that. ‘Miss, what is going on? I won’t leave unless I know you’re fine. Tell me what happened, what should I do? I can arrange anything for you, just tell me.’ She desperately tried to catch her eyes but she couldn’t. ‘How long have you served my family, Lora? A decade? And you still don’t know how we make decisions?’ She bowed her head when Fera cast her a glance. ‘Fera, what are you doing? We need her to get you out of here.’ Fera slowly turned to him which made him step closer. ‘Who are you again?’ She asked him and he only let out a sigh in frustration. ‘Fer-’ ‘Oh! The traitor, the snake, who sneak into my apartment to gather all the evidence against me. You got me, huh? You have a future of being a great detective.’ She plainly said like a robot. She seemed unaffected by what was happening. He looked at her with a serious expression which she bravely reciprocate. ‘You know I can help you, please let me help you. I know things got very tough recently but don’t give up this way.’ A smile crept into Ben’s lips as he saw her take a gulp secretly and looked away. No matter how she acted unaffected, his effect on him was undeniable. Then she started laughing in her most fake laughter and suddenly stop, ‘what can a snake help?’ She even tilted her head as if she was teasing him with her calm and softest voice. ‘Fera, I understand you. We are here for you. Can you just tell us what this is all about? Why do you suddenly claim the crime you didn’t commit?’ ‘I need something.’ ‘Anything.’ He instantly said.
‘I need you both to leave.’ ‘Fera, please!’ Nick exclaimed but Fera turned her head to Lora. ‘Did I say about leaving?’ He was shaking his head while walking out of the room, while Lora was back on her fierce expression. When Ben checked them out of the room, Lora was walking calmly and left the hospital. And Nick was looking at Fera through the glass door, she was acting that she was sleeping but actually not. Nick opened the door and walked inside. ‘I don’t know why can’t you trust me, now I am thinking if you had even trusted me before or never. Is it hard to see that I can live with wounds just to understand you and feel what you feel?’ But he didn’t get any response so he walked closer, but she still didn’t move. He sat on her bed and held her hand. ‘If you’re tired of fighting, it’s okay, you had fought enough. I can do it for you, and I will, whether you like it or not.’ And he kissed the back of her palm. He stood up and left the room. “He's seventeen and he’s this serious in loving this girl, while I’ll be turning twenty-seven this year. God might miss my love life creating their love story this dramatic.” He gulp his bitterness and stood up to prepare all the stuff he needs to hunt down Reymondo. Sooner than he expected he heard Nick enter his house. He spoke non and saw him sitting on the chair face his computer and easily hacked the police station surveillance camera and watched who visited Fera before she attempted of killing herself. He walked to him and watched it too. They watched how they exchange words. They heard their argument, Ben didn’t miss Nick’s eyes glistened as he saw her begging to help her out. And he only promised to do everything soon as she spill what she knew. “Someone sent me this video,” he showed him the clip. “Nothing is making any sense.” He said and he combed his hair using his both hands and held his chin. His redness was enough for Ben to understand that the young man was trying to restrain his frustration. “We at least have some pieces to arrange,” Ben said while fixing his sleeve. “You said, it was sent. I am more than sure that this is a trap.” He only raised his eyebrow at him. “I don’t care, I know the clip wasn’t fake. Whoever this might be, we’ll find his motive if we let ourselves fall in his trap.” He blew his frustration out and stood up. “Sometimes, we need to act a fool and let them think they fooled us. And they are too stupid to notice.” He added and but Nick was still unconvinced but he trust Ben. “I just need water to calm down.” Then walked to the door. “Act smarter, and keep the smartest version of you. That is how to be smart.” Not long enough they left his house and went to the possible location of the man Reymondo linked to Mrs. Fuentes. But they found the house locked, and abandoned. Nick turned his pivot to go back to his car but Ben pulled him to the side at the left part and tried to climb that gate. “Can’t you see? There’s no sign of life here, even wild grass that had climbed the wall was dying.” But he seemed did not hear him speak, and successfully jumped inside. “Come on,” he whispered and started walking to the house. He was left with no choice but to follow him inside. “Loraly shamelessly said my house seemed like a haunted house, maybe we just have similarities.” “Act at your age, Ben.” He heard Nick mumble while following him. “Take your advice, you might need that too. Let me remind you that you are seventeen. I didn’t know that you are such a poetic lover.” He teased him which made his ears burn and turned red. “And you’re twenty-seven while you act like a teen.” “I am enjoying my life-” he suddenly dug and a knife stuck on the wall next to him. They both jump and hide on the other wall.
