First of all, Cassey was to clean the pig house, which he did, but had to rest for each hour of each space interval, made by him, for him. After which he cleaned the whole animal shelters and watered the plants, which was the most exciting and lovely part, he got to feel the life, vibrancy and energies in the plants. Mama watched him all through, and smiled at his efforts. Cassey worked from that morning to the afternoon, where he got to sell some farm products at the market. And no, the work normally shouldn't be so much for him, and it wasn't compulsory to finish it all in a day, but it was mama's way to check if Cassey would go back to study, but it didn't break him, he was hardworking and full of energy. Later that day in the evening, Cassey got to feed and spend time with his favorite and most loved animal, Tim, but before then, he had a mission to complete, Tom Mot the cow was due to deliver so he was going to see to that. That's why Mama told him to do the needful. Cassey led Tom mot to a good place packed with straws And fetched a bucket of water and towel, and somehow, he helped Tom-mot deliver, Mama couldn't do this, only him could. As he was done with everything else, it was already dark and the night was upon him. He went on to feed the horse. Cassey sat on the grass, it was a cool night. The sky was adorned with stars, and the moon iluminated the earth. He gave carrots to Tim, while he watched the stars relaxly. "Been hell of a day TIM ,ain't it?" Tim the horse gave a sound, with a bite and crunch to a whole carrot. "Ahh right, right there Tim, I see, I'd give you all okay boy,you have lots of chops tonight." There was a basket full of carrots beside him. Tim the horse flanked his tail repeatedly. Cassey exhaled deeply "Tonight Tim. Is the beginning of our time together you know, well not the beginning, but you know mama, since I was born all I known is the farm! Haha but not as fulltime as it will be from today." He hands over another carrot to Tim "So,this is my spot. My uhh best friends, they live up there!" Exclaimed Cassey, pointing to the stars, with a smile. "Ahhh,I wonder life without these views, These stars, this heaven... This sky... Tim do you wonder?" Tim flanked his ears in response "Well Tim,I tell you what, you're now one of my best friends,I will share this spot with you forever... from this moment on." **** The next day started off for Cassey just like the day before, but anxiety, and boredom were two enemies present to make the day more like a tender hell, even so, luckily enough for him, something interesting was ahead of the day to spice it up. "Morning birdie" Mama said cheerfully as Cassey got ready for farm's work outside. "You sure you don't wanna give me a hand or something" said Cassey pretending to be sarcastic, while deep inside his heart is disappointment making troubles with his troubled mind, but why? He doesn't know either. All he knew was "I hate this!" "Haha looks like I have a choice, I might just give you a hand, if I don't sleep all through today" she gave a rebellious smile, and then walked inside the house. Before Cassey could let out the sigh that have been begging to be freed from his heavy chest and nostrils, Mama banged the door open and yelled "Clean the pig house lad!" "What? I cleaned it yesterday" "Yes you did. But there's another one! How can you forget?" "That's not fair" Cassey added feeling frustrated and angry at the same time. "Of course. The pig's house's not fair at the moment." "I did nothing to deserve this… um punishment" Cassey said shrugily and drawing the word punishment. Mama shut the door without saying a word. And when he was about to make a move, she opened the door again and in a low tone… "no school, yes farm" that rebellious smile still. Cassey was speechless and at this time, only wished for one thing, for Mama to be gone forever and never come back. He nearly hit himself with the shovel he was holding, not because of any worst possible emotions, but because, well, he was annoyed. Shifting his gaze the other side, he sighted Tom-mot, dropped whatever he was holding, sighed and went straight to her. "Atleast someone I can talk to. Let's take a walk, shall we?".
Cassey wanted to get away from the farm life so much that all he thought about was how to do it. He thought he would enjoy the farm life, but it was not as enjoyable as he thought it would be. Just few days into it he had already quit, or more so, planning on how to. It did occur to him to continue going to school, as that would be the only legal way for his mom to relieve him of his duties. But to him, he didn't have a place there, he didn't fit in, and never want to fit in, but he was thrilled nonetheless, the knowledge he had gotten, the better Ideas of what to do with life, and the intelligence which school had offered him, and as he was getting a better resolve while walking with Tom-mot in the streets of Krinxville, he saw kids with their new stuffs for summer. The better resolve building up on his mind quickly faded away, and the idea of being able to afford good new stuffs occupied. Although Mama could afford some stuffs, but wouldn't be as good as he wanted, he wanted to be in charge, he wanted to be the one with the money, school wasn't going to give him that in a short run. No, he wasn't wrong to wish for a better stuff since everyone was getting theirs anyway. He stared at the moment for some time, and headed back home. Reaching home, there was Allen playing with the poultry birds while waiting for him. Cassey was happy that a friend came by. Finally, there was someone he can talk to all day, about just anything. "I can tell by the look on your face, you are … heart broken!" "Huh? Seriously, of all the things you can say, how can I be heartbroken because of her?" Said Cassey walking out of the spot to tie up Tom-mot, while Allen followed beside him. "Hmm whatever though. But sure you okay?" Allen asked concerned "Maybe, I feel like crap. Just frustrated" nudging and shrugged, as if 'just frustrated' wasn't the right word. "Oh what's making my boy frustrated huh, who is it, I'ma make 'em cry haaa" Allen said jovially as he rubs Cassey's head playfully "I need to buy new stuffs for summer, I need money overall, school can't give me that, can it?" "Oh I see, that's why you didn't come to class today. I know everyone needs money, but education will do for you, what money can't. For what I know, money can't buy literacy, even if you end up hiring educated people to work for you, you're still uneducated. Well, if you go to school, you have a better chance of having money, most times." "Oh really? That's interesting, so why are you going to school? Not for money?" "Hmm, education is a door to so many opportunities, don't you see that?" "So what do you want to be?" It was as if Cassey was getting into it. "I want to be like the professor" "From rome" "Yes" "Keep dreaming!" Cassey shaked his head and walked out. And Allen yelled after him "Yes! Everything that's ever going to happen starts with a dream!" Cassey stood still… "... A dream…A dream. Yes. Yes." "So?" "So, how do I get money!? I mean I need to get off this farm and do something meaningful with my young life..." He cuts himself short, and continued, as if he remembered something very important "That dream, most nights…" "What?" "Umm nothing." "Something meaningful with your young life huh?" Allen gets near Cassey … "well how about the small Man downhill?" "Small Man downhill?" Asked Cassey puzzled, and wondering why his best friend would bring up that name. "Yes, his dog fight race, I hear lads make lotta money off it. What , you afraid?" "No, no. Is a good idea, but…" "But is dangerous and risky because is the small man downhill?" "Well." "You think making money is easy? There is a price to pay for everything" "And which price am I supposed to pay for this?" "Letting go of fear." "Fine. That's easy, letting go of fear would save me from getting kidnapped? Or getting killed?" "Crap! What's with everyone talking against the Small Man Downhill?" "Haven't you heard of the bad things he does? Good luck with that" "Hmm name one? After all I'm strong, we don't have to go alone" "You know, those boys are not just boys they can handle issues when it gets intense" "And we will need a dog, a really big strong one" "Mmhmm, we can't get a dog" "We can! I know some street boys that's got good dogs." "Okay, so when is the race?" "There is a race for saturday" "Damn it,such a short time to get things arranged!" "Don't worry, we have enough time, today is thursday. let's just work it out. We need a couple of boys to follow us too, and a backup plan." "Perfect, who are we meeting first?"
