Chapter 25 Her Guardian

Martina was still in the bathroom when Roberto entered the room. Caterina laid on the bed but her eyes were wide open. She was very worried about Martina, as she kept checking the time on the room’s wall clock.
“Where is She?”
Roberto’s voice made Caterina turned over immediately, she sat up and stared at him.
“Why did you do that to her?! Why did you hurt her so much?!” She yelled getting down from the bed. She stormed to where Roberto was standing and before she got there, two of his men grabbed her by the arm.
“I hate you!” Claudia yelled as the men carried her back to the bed.
“I presume you are strong enough to travel.”
“I’m not going anywhere! I am stating with Martina. I’d rather die than leave her alone with you.”
“It wasn’t a request. Carry her out and fly her back to Italy, leave her exactly where you took her.”
“Let go of me!” The men that held her lifted her without stress, she didn’t weigh because of her illness and she couldn't struggle the way she wanted with them, she was beginning to feel dizzy.
She kept screaming and struggling until they took her far away from the room, Roberto couldn't hear her anymore.
“She has been in the bathroom for hours boss, I don’t think she is in a good position to travel.”
Roberto kept mute and walked to the bathroom. He opened the door and looked around, he found her lying in the bathtub, her eyes were shut like she was lifeless.
He walked to the bathtub and saw she had turned white already. She laid in the water for too long, her skin had changed color, and her finger and toes were wrinkled. He placed his hand under her nostrils and he couldn't feel her breath. He clenched his jaw as he stared at her face.
“Vincenzo!”
Vincenzo ran into the bathroom and moved closer to him, immediately he looked at Martina, he knew something bad had happened. She was unconscious.
“You need to get her to the hospital right now!”
“In America? But you just said we are moving.” Roberto angrily grabbed Vincenzo’s shirt and dragged him closer to himself.
“Take her to a hospital right now!” Vincenzo nodded hastily and waited for Roberto to let go of his shirt. Immediately Roberto released him, he lowered himself and carried Martina out of the bathtub, she was still naked.
“Place her on the bed and get her something to wear.”
Roberto gave orders and Vincenzo did exactly what he was told to do. He clothed the unconscious Martina and they headed out of the villa.
“I will call you to update you, sir.”
“Who said I was waiting behind? Prepare my car and bring it here. I am going to the hospital with you.”
Vincenzo creased his brows at Roberto’s statement. He was shocked but he couldn’t question him. Roberto has never escorted any of them to the hospital before… Why the sudden change of heart?
Roberto ordered only two of his best men, Greco and Bruno, to go with them to the hospital. The rest of his men were to take care of things at the villa.
Roberto had warned them that he could call on them anytime to meet them at the nearest Heliport and they mustn’t delay him.
A car was in front of Roberto’s, and in this car were Vincenzo and Martina. Greco was the driver. And Bruno was the one that drove the car Roberto was in.
Greco drove at full speed because Vincenzo kept pestering him to go faster. He was scared Martina was going to finally give up the ghost.
“Stay strong Martina,” Vincenzo muttered as he stared at her. Her head was on his thighs and the rest of her body was on the car chair.
“You all are so concerned about her.” Greco looked at Vincenzo through the interior mirror.
“Of course, I am concerned about her because I am human like her.” Vincenzo kept his gaze on Martina’s face.
“This isn’t the first a woman is dying because of the boss, but why does hers hit you differently? Not just you but Mr. Roberto, he is worried to the extent of going with her to the hospital. Isn’t that strange?”
“Can you please focus on your driving and stop talking?”
Vincenzo responded after trying to find answers to Greco’s questions. Truly, he was saying nothing but the truth, no other person’s health had gotten him so bothered before. But there was something about Martina, he just hated to see her hurt.
“Does Roberto also feel the same way?” He looked at Martina’s pale face again, her lips were white and dry.
Greco drove the car into the hospital compound and Bruno followed behind them almost immediately. Once the car stopped, Vincenzo moved Martina’s head from his thigh carefully and alighted the car. He pulled her hands so that she could come closer to the door, and he lifted her again.
Greco already ran into the hospital to get the nurses, and they returned with a stretcher. They pushed it to where Vincenzo was, and he placed her on it.
The nurses pushed her into the hospital building and Vincenzo hurried after them. Roberto was behind Vincenzo, he refused to run since he had gotten to the hospital already.
They pushed the stretcher into an emergency room and shut Vincenzo out. He stood in front of the door and peeped into the room through the glass on the door.
“Why are you so concerned?”
Vincenzo heard Roberto’s voice and he quickly moved away from the door and bowed his head slightly.
“I am concerned because you are concerned boss.”
“And who said I am concerned?” Vincenzo gulped after hearing Roberto’s question. Roberto scoffed and walked to the next available chair.
He sat on the chair and placed his right leg on his left. He loosened the button of his suit, rested his head on the wall, and shut his eyes.
Vincenzo’s eyes were on Roberto, he looked at him when his eyes were shut.
“Why is he acting unconcerned now? He is in the hospital already.” Vincenzo thought. He let out a deep exhale and began to pace in the hallway. He was impatient to hear what the doctor had to say about Martina.
He frequently looked into the ward and he saw she had an oxygen face mask on, he became more scared seeing her that way.
“Why does she need oxygen? This isn’t a minor issue.” Vincenzo said to himself fearfully.
He looked at Roberto and saw he was still very relaxed, his legs were crossed and his eyes were shut like he was taking a nap.
“How can he not care about anyone?” Vincenzo wondered.
After minutes of them waiting, the door to the emergency ward opened, and Roberto’s eyes opened immediately. Vincenzo rushed to meet the doctor and stood in front of him.
“How is she, doctor?”
“Is her guardian here? Parents? Husband? Family?” Roberto stood up and walked to the doctor majestically, his hands buried in his pockets.
“I am her guardian. Tell me.”
“She is out of danger, but I’m sorry to tell you that she has anemia. She has been under so much stress from the tests and she is deficient in iron and B12.”
Vincenzo shut his eyes tight after he heard what the doctor said. He felt so heartbroken.
“Is she awake?”
“Not yet, but she should be awake soon, she needs a lot of rest.”
“When can she be discharged? We need to travel as soon as possible.”
Vincenzo furrowed his brows at Roberto’s question.
“Is he really asking that? After hearing she needs a lot of rest?” Vincenzo thought.
“I don’t think she can travel anytime soon sir, because this would endanger her.”
“But we need to get out of here. I need her to be fit for traveling in two days. That is the highest I can do.”
Roberto walked away and Vincenzo stared at him unbelievably.
“Is he truly her guardian?” The doctor asked staring at Roberto as he walked out of the hospital.
