Therefore, Prieto's grand dad has been a major support to his mother's up keep. Ever since the years there's been divorced between his parents. Suddenly, there were sounds of his mother's voice at the frontage of the house, signifying her arrival. " Welcome ma! welcome ma! It's was as if he heard the voices of children, greeting his mother outside the frontage of the house. To be sure, he arrived from the bed outside from the room, walking through the empty palour section of the house to the main entrance of the building. Prieto got closed to the door, he open it and saw his mother just arriving with the bicycle. She dragged the bicycle with firewood on the carrier sit, to the backyard while Prieto ran after her to assist the heavy loaded woods she was pushing along. Prieto greeted her welcome. As he collected the handle of the bicycle from her to push it closer to the backyard kitchen. At this point, the playful goat started running away into the nearby bushes, to where ever they came from. His mother replied, " thank you my son; you are welcome ma. Prieto responded.
His mother quickly went for the rope she used to tie the woods together to the bicycle carrier sit and untied the woods, has she pushed them to the ground. She was sweating under the duress of pushing this loads from afar, gasping. Prieto, went for a cup full of water from the local pot, to give his mother at the backyard. His mother drank and sat on a stool wooden chair, she sit to cook with in the kitchen, asking Prieto if he had gone to see his uncle. Yes mother! I have arrived since; Prieto answered. I thought I was going to meet you at home. 'So what is the outcome?" The mother asked. Mummy! Said Prieto, uncle Tony gave me #250,000 naira cash for my trip to Jos for my NYSC. As if his mother was not aware of the arrangement, she said amazingly" really! with a surprise look on her face. Her son then asked her to come along with him to the room, so he could show are the money. Without delay, the mother stood up from the wooden stool and walked with him to the inside. They got in. As his mother sat on the bed, Prieto dragged outside the traveling he kept the money under the bed, he unzipped and opened it to bring out the money. He brought the money out and placed it in his mother's hand. " Here it is ma". His mother collected the money and she started singing and making happy melodies, in her usual native dialect. Giving thanks to God, for showing up for her son to be able to go for his service, as far as the support his concerned. She stood from the bed with the money, lifting her hand up to the ceiling dancing outside the room to the empty spaced parlour. Prieto watched her mother demonstrate over joyousness. As she kept dancing, she called her son outside the room to dance with her. Prieto came close to her mother smiling, holding her hands as they both express gratitude to God, for making his service a possibility. She gave the money back to her son. She asked him to put the money back in the safe, handling it to him. He collected it and went back to the room, while his mother sat on the one and only cushion chair Prieto always sit in to dine.
My son! She called; am so! so! happy she said. Relaxing herself for a relief. "So when do you intend to travel to Jos now?" His mother asked. As Prieto walked outside the room to sit with her in the parlour. Prieto answered her, in 3 days time. She started out, giving him an advice about never loosing his focus on his voyage to Jos for the service. "My son always ask God for direction and pray", she said to him. I have always known you as a brilliant boy and I don't want you to fall short of those standards. She said to Prieto. "Always remember nothing good comes easy". You must learn to keep working hard to earn what ever you own. You were never influence by bad company at the University, therefore I don't intend to hear about such happening about you now. This is the time to get serious with your life, and make good use of the money your Uncle Tony gave you, to achieve meaningful things at the camp.
