CHAPTER 24

Prieto finished eating. He could still hear his mother and mama Ejima talking outside the frontage of the house. As he finished eating, he packed his plates away from the table, into the bucket his mother place her plate after eating earlier. Prieto gulp down the remaining cups of water, as he entered into his mother's room to sleep on the bed. He pulled off his shirt, and layed on the bed with only his trousers on him. Not minding if his mother was still outside talking, he closed the door to her room slightly, and fell asleep like a log of wood for he was very tired.
At about 2clk in the midnight, Prieto came outside the room, passing through the parlour to go ease hinself, he saw his mother fast asleep as well on a mat spread beside the wall to the entrance of her room. He saw his mother and his younger brother, sleeping together on the same mat. He was already feeling very pressed from the way he felt, he quickly rushed outside of the house opening the wooden doors to unlock it from the bolt. He came outside, every where was as dark as midnight. He drifted walking to the left way side, like he was going to the kitchen. He stopped to find a suitable spot, to empty the full loaded urine off his bladder. When he finished easing himself, he went back into the house closing and bolting the door back.
As he passed along to enter the room, he looked at his mother the way she slept and his brother the way he curdled up next to her on the bed. The both of them already slept off, without been aware of his presence when he passed by. He entered back into the room, he pushed the door to it open and layed back on the bed to sleep. The scary look of the midnight he saw, dawned on him that he lost half part of his sleep. He thought to himself, that he actually went outside to ease himself boldly in his subconscious mind. If he had been on his right mind, he would have woke up his mother to be at alert for him, before going out. Prieto could not imagine himself going outside of the house all by himself again, because the sight of the night was very scary in the village. Due to the fact that there was no light in any form at the premises.
On getting back on the bed, he could not sleep again that much. His thoughts only kept roaming on various plans of action, coming into play on his mind. The rats were all disturbing in there usual ways, running up and down under the bed. Infact one of those little rat once jumped on him, from the table beside the bed like it was sent to attack him. The experience was really intimidating and scary. He picked up his watch to check the time, it was almost 4:55clk am. The night was almost breaking into day. The next phase of the morning was approaching, Prieto still tried to get some sleep all the same. He forced his eyes closed, to make up with the little time to sleep before the break of dawn.
A certain wind blew, coming in from the wooden small sized window of the room, which was slightly opened, the texture of the blowing breeze seems like it's coming from the water wave of Onoku river. It blew smoothly, caressing Prieto's body in a tender manner that made his eyes closed to catch some sleep. Prieto slept off one time, at this unexpected atmospheric condition.
As the day begins it was already 8:00clk am, in the morning. Prieto was still sleeping undisturbed, while his mother was busy attending to washing all the plates and utensils she used in cooking yesternight. The noise of the locomotive engine from the neighbors, who lived nearby Prieto's house started out it's operation grinding cassava. Thereby, causing noise pollution which eventually made Prieto to wake up at the noisy effect of the sound. His eyes struggled with the reflection of sunlight, coming through the wooden window of the room. Getting up from the bed was hard to bear, it was as if an heavy burden was placed on him. Prieto could hear his mother's voice, talking at the backyard to someone closed by. He stretched his right hand to hold the table beside the bed, in attempt to support himself in getting up. He was still under the influence of slumber. Prieto struggled to lift the weight of his body up, to sit up on the bed. When he was up sitting on the bed, he pushed one side of the wooden window open. He sat on the bed in the room, looking at his mother at the backyard washing plates.
Not long enough, after she finished what she was doing her next line of action was to pick up a broom, and she started sweeping the goat dungs and other dirty litters on the ground. Around the premises of her kitchen. Funny enough, Prieto sat on the bed still looking at his mother through the open window, notion to keep silence dawn on his words. Common"good morning mother", he couldn't utter from his mouth. Prieto's mother wasn't watching at all, she was only busy doing what she was doing.
Prieto stood up from where he sat, which must have been about 45 minutes of sitting down after waking up. He took the toothpaste and a brush with it, which was on the medium sized cupboard at the left hand side entrance of the room. From on top of the cupboard, he took the paste. Going back to sit on the bed in dizzy mode. The toothbrush was in his right hand, He held the paste to the brush, squeezing it out on the brush pace of the toothbrush. Prieto slot it inside his mouth, brushing his teeth as he sat on the bed. Then, his mother heard the sound of the brushing, and looked up to see who it was. " My son, you don wake up?" Did you sleep well! His mother asked him behind the window. Prieto tries to speak but the fuming substance of the paste, will not let him speak clearly. He spat some foams off his mouth from the window and greeted his mother.
