CHAPTER 8

Perhaps my thought has always being that you live in Kwale (Utagba). Am happy you’re close nearby. For his visitor which is Prieto, he went inside and brought a kola-nut and placed it in a saucer. Eze said; so young man make a toast. Prieto smiled in his usual way, and lamented about his unarranged cultural way of making toast, Eze told him to do it with the language he understands, which is english. Prieto adjusted himself on the bench he was sitting, and said; this is kola-nut and he took it with the money, placed on it as gift from Eze in making a toast. He said; may God give us long life, money, good wife and to the ladies  good husband. To Eze Ojugo  houses and his children good education, he finalized it with in Jesus name, and they all laughed and said Amen.
They talk generally about many things. Soon, they  drew the lines and switch to business. The reason why am here, Prieto said". How do I get 200,000 thousand naira, to give my book a proper publication and printing? Well, Eze answered that’s a lot of money he doesn’t think anyone is willing to give away to no one like that. Nevertheless, I can introduce you to a friend of mine, who is a printer. We can bargain business with him and we can proceed to the launching.
Prieto bought the idea, but still he thought about talking with Joe. The man he walked with, along side with Nzeribe in bricks laying. There’s something funny about Joe, Prieto said". An instinct of him perceived to be rich. You will never know the worth of a man, till you get closer to his affairs, same Joe. The care taker, who takes care of a rich man's house. A house just in front of his own house where he stays. Joe listened to Prieto story with his dad, during the time they were both building at Nzeribe's brother's house, Kenneth. Since that time they worked together, he developed a soft spot for him.
What could sound better, when Joe said look Prieto; forget your story with your old man, that he had worse experience than that. At the age of nine-years old, he had problems with his own dad, and his father disowned him. He lost his mother later on, and his two other brothers. Remaining only him. At nine-years old, he had to learn life in the hard way with no one to help him. Now, he worked as a brick layer. The way he handles building project plan, makes Prieto call him gifted. It’s only God that can make a man smooth, in his work with smart hand. Straight away Preito knew Joe was blessed. Joe himself further told Prieto that; he sponsored is father’s burial arrangement disregarding the fact that, his so called father disowned him. Before he died. Prieto was caught up in frenzy, when he looked into his eyes. He told Prieto not worry; that he is interested in his book publications. He said; he can stretch out a helping hand to him. Prieto gathered himself up in encouragement and kept excitement, within him. All of a sudden, Nzeribe started insinuating frustration on the support Joe was intending for prieto. He said things about; rumours of Prieto been a cigarette smoker and marijuana. Prieto became aggravated and was defending himself in a lousy tones. Immediately, Joe warned Nzeribe to stop framing up such issues again, and even anywhere. When Prieto heard Joe cautioned Nzeribe, he gained new confidence in Joe. Nzeribe in his ways, is a fire starter. Always on a mission to having Prieto’s head down. when considering how radiant and smart he is.
The next day, Prieto thought to himself about having a plan. He said; Eze Ojugo had told you already, that he has discussed with his publisher. A friend of his. And he said to Prieto that whenever he is ready with the manuscript of the book, that the project of printing will proceed. After bargaining with the printer. The publishing deal instead. He said; why bargaining to involve the printer in deals cutting, why not make him to do his job normally. lets try and make few copies first by paying; He said to himself. So he decided to involve Joe, counting on his last statement. He said to him, about stretching a helping hand. There goes Prieto feeling focus and full of hopes. He jumped on a bicycle that is not his mum's. Such a skeletal type with body parts worn out. His mother’s bicycle wasn’t available so he managed it to Joe's place. He got to the chief's residence where he first thought to be where Joe stayed, on his way to arrival, he discovered that the chief's residential building was locked. Just not too long, while contemplating to stay waiting for him at the gate. He saw his mother with her junior sister dragging down some bags of cassava from the farm, passing in front of the chief's residence. His mother asked him what he was doing there, he said he was looking for Joe, the guy he worked with in some building plan some time during the week, his mother remembered who he was and gave the proper description of his house to Prieto. His house is at the back of the chief's residence. She told him to come home quickly and return their neighbors bicycle. Prieto located Joe's place and met him, but told him he will be back.
The bicycle he rode on, wasn’t their own. He just needed to locate his place, to know if Joe is around. So, He  can come checking him back on foot. On his way back, he received a gift of cashew fruit from a woman to his mother. He got home and park the bicycle. His neighbor's bicycle. He placed the cashew fruit he was giving to his mother, on the table.
