Alisha hesitated in answering the question, she wasn't leaving the country yet but maybe some other time.
“Why did you change your mind on becoming the witness to the murder case?” He pressed on and she cut off the call. Brian had intentions of speaking with her in person, but there was no time for all that, he just had to figure out a way of exposing the criminal.
The streets of Durango beamed with delight, one could see people moving to different places of their field of endeavors. A girl wrapped herself with a cardigan due to the cold, she held a young lady's hand while they walk across the crosswalk.
“Mother, where are we?” She questioned, looking around.
“Somewhere safe from home” she responded, attempting to make a phone call, but it was unavailable.
“What's wrong?” The child asked again, and the woman peeked at her,
“Just stop asking questions and follow me”. They arrived at a house which was a large bungalow, it had no one living there except for a lonely cat that always paraided the place like a vigilante. The lady walked around the whole place and smirked. It seemed like the girl liked this place because she was all joyous. It was going to be her first time leaving in a much smaller house than a large mansion with her mother.
“Julie, would you stop giggling to yourself and come help me here!” She barked while searching for the key around. Julie looked up at a lantern that was hung close to the door and smiled.
“Found it!” She exclaimed, pointing a finger at the lantern where the key laid.
“Oh gosh, we would leave as soon as I have made arrangements” the lady muttered disgusted.
“Miss Lucy, where's this place called?” The girl questioned, gazing around. She just loved the natural view of this place, especially now that she could be alone with her mother.
“Is it so hard to call mother? And besides, you ask countless questions” she snapped and Julie kept quiet. Miss Lucy picked their luggage and stormed into the house.
“We have to live in such small place, I wasn't expecting such a place from Frederico and here we are stucked in…” Julie sighed as miss Lucy complains, she felt it would be better not to ruin the good mood yet with her talks and really how small was this place because it still seemed like a family house.
“And why isn't he picking the call…” She paused on hearing the sound of a broken vase.
“Sorry?” Julie apologized, she had broken a vase mistakenly hopefully, this would lead to miss Lucy changing the topic.
“How long would we stay here?” She asked, stooping low to pick up the pieces but miss Lucy stopped her.
“When I got things soughted out okay” she snapped, picking up the pieces and Julie hugged her with tears.
“Thanks for everything” she whispered and miss Lucy patted her on the back.
“You sure do know how to make someone cry” miss Lucy whispered back and Julie laughed.
“That doesn't mean we are close friends yet!” Julie hollered.
“I would think over it” miss Lucy replied, refraining from her hug. Julie left her in the sitting room and ran towards the rooms to see which one fits her perfectly. Miss Lucy abandoned the broken vase and stepped outside, she set out to make a phone call, but it was switched off. She climbed down the door stairs, walking towards the gates and glanced outside to see if anyone was following her.
“They might think I'm dead, but when I return, it would be a storm” she growled and then hissed at her phone.
“Pick up the call, idiot! I just want to know the state of my business!” She sneered, pacing to and fro. She went back inside and realized that the Broken vase had been cleared up, all thanks to Julie, who scoffed in annoyance at miss Lucy. Why did her mother volunteer to clean it up when she wasn't even going to do it?
“I'm hungry” she muttered, walking towards the kitchen. Everywhere in this place was neatly kept. Which meant it must have been cleaned up before they arrived, but Julie couldn't see a trace of the servants.
“I just got us some order” miss Lucy yelled taking her seat. Julie groaned silently when will she eat a meal prepared from her mother, couldn't her mother do without ordering someone or something, when her mother say Julie I made this specially for you? Her only wish was her mother to spend time with her, and now she wishes that her mother has nothing to fall back on and just stay with her all day long, granting her desires, was it that hard to understand a longing child.
“What!” Miss Lucy wailed, jerking up from the cushion which made Julie shrug her shoulder. Whenever her mother made that expression, it was either nothing had worked according to plan, and she dares not ask what was wrong. Miss Lucy had finished with the call, she turned her gaze to Julie.
“I will be right back” she motioned while locking up Julie in a room. Julie climbed the bed and buried her head in her pillow, not again, would she be locked up forever? Would she ever make friends here?
“Oh God just grant my wishes, is that too much to ask? And…” She halted her speech and walked to the window which was facing the gate. She could see children walking by and playing on the street while they walked to school, either with a guardian.
“I think it's time I had a dad” she thought and then shook her head.
“What am I saying, that's totally impossible” she said and then smiled at the people who walked by even though they couldn't see her.
“Argh! I seem invisible it was better back home, at least I got to see Alexandra and the rest… I missed them all” Julie wailed. What was she going to do to kill this boredom if not to just lament like her mother.
