It was a cozy morning and miss Lucy was still asleep, not minding if she got works to do at the office. Her alarm rang in fury, but it was shut up by a slap on its head. The phone which lay beside her rang several times, but it didn't move a muscle in her.
“Brian Henson” the manager read on the mini frame that stood on the boss table and smiled.
“Nice name” a co-worker whispered to him. She goes by the name Lilian and is always seen around the manager.
“Have you tried calling her again?” He asked, referring to miss Lucy.
“Yes…45 missed calls” she replied.
“What do we do if the boss finds out?”. They both stared at themselves.
“Damn, that lady's gonna put me in a mess”
Brian was stuck in a traffic jam which was caused by an accident, but it got subsided and as he attempted to drive a lady appeared standing in front of his car and widened her hands like a traffic wader. He stared at her and realized it was the new employee smiling at him. Brian would have run her over if he wasn't concentrating. She ran towards the front wing.
“Hi boss what a coincidence we meet at the same place”
“What were you thinking?” He queried.
“I couldn't find a taxi…” she paused and gasped.
“Oh my, I'm late, and it seems like we're heading to the same place…a ride won't reduce you, right?” She rapped entering the car. Did she realize that her boss was looking angry, and she wasn't letting him say a word
“Let's go…be a good leader, it's not that you can query me…we both are late” she tortured while a sigh escaped from her lips? Miss Lucy had jumped out of her bed earlier because Julie screamed her name. In a haste, she got prepared and dashed out to the roadside. It was hard to get a taxi, and she hated being hurried for work. She couldn't find any and began to walk fast along the pedestrian pathway when she saw her boss in his car about to drive off.
“What a comfy car…you know I used to have as much car as I needed…”
“Lucy…shut up!” He ordered, and the cars behind him began to honk at him wildly, wondering if his car's engine has failed on the road.
“It's miss Lucy and I would keep silence because you're my boss” she snapped annoyed and glancing at the window.
They got to the company really late and Brian was meant to have a meeting, he wasn't used to all this bossy lifestyle and keeping up early to meet with work, especially now that someone was getting on his nerves. He sat in his office compiling the words he was going to say and as he glanced at the window, his eyes met with miss Lucy who was glaring at him. Couldn't something be done with this glassy doors and windows? It was annoying staring at someone all day long. He looked at his file and then at her. What was her duty here? Brian called the manager into his office, who didn't hesitate to appear like a ghost.
“What? Wasn't there any other vacancy than being my secretary?”
“I thought you approved of it?” The manager reasoned. It was the first time of seeing Brian angry maybe he wasn't a saint after all, now the manager was half broken.
“You're late for the meeting and the officials are waiting…” The manager furthered and Brian glared at him. He hasn't even finished composing anything yet. Miss Lucy stood up from her desk holding a file, and she waved at the manager if she could come in. Lucas turned his gaze at the boss who shook his head but miss Lucy didn't mind and walked inside.
“Seriously again?” He mused while miss Lucy drew near.
“Here's the paperwork, I'm done composing the speech”
“What?” Brian muttered and Lucas rolled his eyes. Now he is in trouble, what if miss Lucy exposes him.
"I hope I get a promotion!” She snapped and walked out.
“Who does she think she is, walking out of the boss?” Lucas protested as though he was going to fight her, so he could avoid any questions by the boss.
“When I return…you've got some questions to answer” he sneered, picking up the paper which miss Lucy composed and paced to the meeting room. Lucas chuckled, he found it funny that his boss still carried miss Lucy's masterpiece. Miss Lucy groaned in her desk. It was the first she had to put in effort in thinking and composing a speech, usually, she had someone who does it for her.
“Argh, I hope to get promoted!” She thought recalling when the manager met with her at the exit door telling her to get a speech composed in 20 minutes, did he even know if she had an idea in the speech? Miss Lucy refused him abruptly, but he advised that she might find favor in the boss and get promoted, she likes the sound of that, directly, miss Lucy set out to composing the project. Miss Lucy's thought was interrupted when Lucy drummed his hands on her desk.
“What now?” She lamented as Lucas smirked at her.
“Who are you?” He asked studying her,
“You're the manager, and you should know your employees” she responded.
“I don't think he's happy with me…but I don't care”. She continued airing her view about the boss.
“Who is ever happy with you?” He thought and ogled at him as if she heard what he said.
“I need a break anyway and permission to go home”
“What? But you just got here…” Lucas cried, almost having a high blood pressure. If she misbehaves, all blame would be on him. Why was the boss just putting the anger and frustration on him and not the villain?
“You're lucky I asked for permission…” She beckoned, standing up to leave.
“Wait, the boss has to grant your leave” he panicked with a fake smile, and she groaned.
“Not another word with the boss… I can't stand him” she lamented, sitting back as she waited for him to be done with his never-ending meeting with the officials.
