Chapter 15 ~ XIV ~

DRYSTAN.
I slammed the car door and marched up to the house, I angrily unlocked the door and walked in; I left the door wide open and headed straight to my room.
I plopped down on my bed and frustratingly rubbed my forehead "why can't Derrick just see reasons with me for once? I can't work with her! Training isn't easy, she might have done it back in her former pack but not this one! These soldiers are brutes and she's here! She could get hurt and worst of all, she'll be by my side and I have to spend every second worrying about her"
"Ohh.. so someone cares," Lukianos said and I rolled my eyes in utter annoyance.
"Shut up, I just don't want her around me and have myself be responsible for her all the time" I defended myself immediately.
"Oh please! That's what they all say" he said again and I immediately blocked him out.
"I think working with her will be better, you wouldn't have to worry about her when she's out of sight" Erasmus piped in and I let out a deep sigh of frustration.
"For the last time, I don't care or worry about her. I just don't want to be the one responsible for her" I repeated, my voice rising an octave with each word.
"Yeah right," all of them said at the same time, sending a wave of frustration down my body.
I was still arguing with them and trying to get my point across even tho their defiance was making me question my intentions when a soft knock came on my door. I paused and turned to the door with a raised eyebrow, I already know who is behind the door, but why?
"What do you want!?" I asked loudly when the knocks came again.
"I need to talk to you" her soft voice mumbled quietly through the door and I immediately sat up.
"About?" I pressed on, curious about her response.
"Well, meet me in the dining and you will know," she said and I heard her footsteps fading as she walked away. I sighed and rolled my eyes at her attitude, but stood up nonetheless and went after her.
I went down to the dining and met her seated on one of the chairs, focused on her laptop; which was open in front of her, and a stack of paper surrounded it. I pulled out a chair opposite her and sat down "why did you call me down?" I asked after a few moments of silence, she looked up at me and took a deep breath as she relaxed on her chair.
"Well...?" I pressed on when she didn't say anything.
"I want us to discuss my new job with you" she stated in a clear and firm voice, and I clenched my jaw in annoyance but refused to say anything "I will need your old schedule, how many pack warriors there are, and the needed details on them. Then we can proceed to create a new schedule that will be convenient for the both of us"
Her words and how precise and confident she is took me by surprise, and for a moment my resolve to not work with her dissolved a little but my stubbornness took over and I shook my head "You should consider another job, this isn't for you and I'm not ready to be responsible for you" I said and my words seemed to have flipped a switch in her head because the next moment, her eyes turned into a dark shade of red and she slammed her hands on the table; her claws visible and denting the table.
"Listen to me carefully, Beta Drystan, I do not even in the slighted appreciate you undermining me. I am not a baby, I'm a fully grown Were that has handled both men and women, so you either suck it up and work with me or you can quit instead cause I don't plan on it" she said in a single breath, her voice dripped venomously with each word she said.
"Her wolf's eyes are beautiful!" Favian mumbled in awe.
"They really are" the others mumbled in agreement, and against my will my eyes were immediately fixated on hers, studying and registering every single detail about her eyes; momentarily forgetting what she said until she slammed her claws on the table again.
"Did you even get what I said?" She asked, her face morphing into a deep frown and I took a deep breath.
"Sit down then, let's talk," I said, unwilling giving to her demands. She stared at me skeptically for a while before plopping down back on her chair, I watched her take two breaths to calm her wolf down and when she was finally back in control she immediately looked up at me.
"I'm seated" she stated, waiting for me to say something but I deliberately kept quiet. She stared at me expectantly for a while before a deep sigh left her lips and she placed her elbows on the table, propelling herself forward and closer to me "Listen, Drystan, We aren't children and I'm not about to banter every day with you about anything especially not about this work. So, how about we put our differences aside and try to get along"
I kept mute for a while just staring at her before I nodded my head "all right then, this doesn't mean we are friends or anything. I'm simply doing this for work purposes, and I am in no way responsible for you. So you have only yourself to rely on out there" I said to her, but it felt more like I was reassuring myself.
Her face immediately lit up at my words and a big smile graced her face "of course! So brief me and let's get started on how we'll run this" she stated, staring at me hopefully.
My lips tugged up in a small smile and I nodded "all right then" I started, and she immediately brought a pen to write with. I stared at her in amusement before I cleared my throat and started briefing her "I'm the trainer in charge of all the soldiers in the 10 districts, they do have sub-trainers but I'm the one that trains them 90% of the time and determines their ranks" I took a break to let her write down enough before I continued.
"My schedule is simple, I handle each district a day, so I train all week from 8 am-1 pm. Yes, breaks are involved. Then from 1 pm till whenever, I handle the paperwork concerning the soldiers, ranging from their food storage to training gadgets to their ranks and everything else. Other times, I attend to other pack-related paperwork" I finished and she bobbed her head slowly as she kept writing.
"What's the average number of soldiers in a district?" She asked the moment she was done writing.
"500" I answered in a heartbeat, none of the packs has less than 500 soldiers and it's one of the things that makes training hours longer than necessary. She nodded at me and began scribbling down on her paper again.
"Okay, I'm done! So from what you've said, I've created the perfect schedule. We both will handle two different districts each day with the same time frame, for 5 days a week; taking the weekends off. Then for paperwork, I still don't have a hang of how you run the paperwork, so, I will play your assistant for a week then we can make some adjustments" she said with a smile on her face, and I found myself nodding in agreement with a smile on my face as well.
"Alright, since you agree. This is my email" she said and passed me a piece of paper "feel free to email me the districts you want me to handle and their training routine, and if you can, send the soldiers' profiles as well" she said and my face contorted in surprise.
"You want me to be the one to choose the districts you'll train?" I asked, to be sure I heard her right and to my surprise, she nodded.
"You do know them best" she affirmed and a smile made its way to my face.
"Working with you won't be so bad" I muttered to myself, but unfortunately, thanks to her wolf instincts she heard me and a huge grin appeared on her face.
"Yes, it won't if you make me some food 'cause I'm hungry," she said, giving me the puppy eyes and we both began chuckling.
