Chapter 16 ~ XV ~

SELENE
I gave myself a nod of approval as I looked at myself through the mirror, it was currently 7 am; my first day of work as a trainer in Mooncrest pack with Drystan, and I can't help but feel a bit nervous.
"Are you ready?" I mumbled to Eliana, who immediately responded.
"As ready as ever, you don't have to worry about a thing! You're one of the best trainers out there and you know it" she reassured me and a huge grin appeared on my face.
"Thank you," I said gratefully, her words have always been a source of confidence for me for as long as I can remember. I released a deep breath and glanced at myself one last time through the mirror, I picked up my bag and slid it over my shoulders before picking up my phone that has been pinging with notifications and left the room.
The sweet aroma of Waffles and Bacon hit my nostrils when I got close enough to the kitchen, my mouth began to water at the scent and I immediately hastened my step into the kitchen, "this is what I want to wake up to everyday" I mumbled as I got into the kitchen and met Drystan dishing out waffles and bacon into two different plates.
He looked up at me from the counter and raised an eyebrow as he scanned my outfit, I immediately felt self-conscious and began fiddling with my fingers; curious about his opinion on my outfit, but when he just went back to dishing out food after looking at me, I felt blood rush up to my cheeks in embarrassment.
But the feeling of embarrassment disappeared and was replaced by a wave of anger that coursed through my body as I thought of his nonchalant attitude, but I was angrier at myself for even thinking of his opinion on my outfit. I gave him the stink eye for a few seconds before plopping down on one chair; I placed my bag on the floor and opened my phone to go through the notifications I've been getting, a huge smile made its way to my face when I saw the "good luck on your first day" messages from my friends.
I began scrolling through the messages, smiling and laughing as I replied to them. I was halfway through replying to them when I noticed Drystan eating his food and I raised my eyebrow in surprise "where's mine?" I asked after a few moments of silence.
He raised his eyebrows as he stared at me through his lashes "it's over there at the counter" he said and went back to eating his food.
I scoffed at his words "would it hurt if you brought it here for me?" I asked with an eye roll and stood up to go get my food.
"It won't just hurt, it will kill me," he said with all seriousness, and I chuckled; the annoyance I felt earlier seeping away from me.
"Thanks for cooking" I mumbled and started shoving down the food, I felt his gaze on me for a while before he mumbled a quick "you're welcome" and went back to eating his food. We both ate quickly in comfortable silence and I washed the dishes before we left.
"Alright, according to your schedule; District 1 and district 2 soldiers are here. You'll be handling district 2 while I handle district 1. Are you okay with that?" Drystan said as he pulled up into a huge field and turned the car off.
I was shocked he asked for my opinion instead of shoving what he came up with down my throat, but I covered up my shock by pretending to think for a moment before nodding my head "yeah, that's fine with me"
He gave me a slight nod and opened his car door "that's great. Let's go, they should be here any minute" he said and stepped out of the car, and I immediately followed suit.
I walked behind him quietly, my eyes occasionally roaming around the huge field; taking note of all I could about it. "Our training equipment are kept over there," he said, drawing me out of my eye tour and I looked up at him with my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Where?" I asked when I couldn't make out any building that could be used for storing pieces of equipment. He glanced at me and sighed before pointing at the building; it was at the far end of the field and should a human see the distance between us and the building, they would think they were travelling to another state, and it would barely be visible to their eyes.
I took my time to study the building, it is bigger than the average storage building and I bet that the weapons inside are a whole lot. I reluctantly dragged my eyes away from the building and turned to Drystan "Why is the building so far away from the field?"
"To make warm-up easier, the soldiers run to get their equipment the moment they get here and that's their form of warm-up" he explained gently and my mouth made an O-shape in understanding.
The serenity of the field was broken by the sound of over a thousand soldiers jogging up to us, my nerves immediately piqued up at the sound and I could feel my armpit getting sweaty. It didn't seem nerve-wracking earlier but now that I could hear them jogging over to us, I began to think of all the things that could go wrong.
I tried my best to think of all the things that could go right and my previous achievements as a trainer back in my pack, but my brain was blank and could only focus on the negatives making it impossible for me to calm down.
"You can do this," a soft and reassuring voice that didn't belong to Eliana said to me, and I immediately whipped my head up to look at Drystan; the owner of the voice, but he was looking straight ahead "I can feel your anxiousness, and I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you could put up with me, you can handle 500 soldiers," he said and glanced at me for a second.
A big smile appeared on my face and I felt myself calm down, feeling way more confident than I was initially "Thank you" I said to him and turned to face the coming soldiers, with my head held high.
