Chapter 11

Amelia
I took my time in calming down and when I felt calm enough, I stood up and walked to his door, but before I could knock, the door was yanked open and My boss came out, my feet shook and I stumbled, but before I could fall, he held me with his hand on my waist and mine on his shoulder. It felt really awkward to be in that position, but he did not bother. He waited till I regained my balance before he released me.
"I'm sorry sir" I apologized with a bow. He pulled me inside his office and closed the door behind.
"Miss Amelia right?" He asked unsure. "Yes sir" I answered nervously, my head hanging low.
"Is this how we are going to be working?" He asked seriously, "I remember calling you about 10 minutes ago and you are coming in now? Is this how you behave?" He almost yelled and I shook, "I'm so sorry sir, it won't happen again" I replied.
"Now listen carefully, I do the calling, you do the answering, failure to do so or any wasting of time, then you will be severely punished. Do you understand me?!"
"Ye... Yes sir" I stuttered my head still low as I fiddled with my fingers nervously.
"When I'm talking to you, Look at me" he ordered and I raised my head to look at him. Our eyes locked in the process. He looked somewhat dumbstruck as silence reigned in the room.
"Those eyes..."He muttered. "Have we perhaps, met each other before now?" He asked leaving me confused.
"I suppose not sir" I replied. "Then why..." He was still speaking when his laptop beeped. He cleared his throat and kept a straight face as usual.
"That was unprofessional, you should apologise" he said referring to me. "Unbelievable" I thought to myself
"Urmm, excuse me sir, I don't see any wrong I have done to apologise" I said to him boldly, He stared at me for sometime before walking to the cupboard in his office. He pulled out a file and placed it on the table and then walked to his seat.
"Look into that file and sign before bringing it back to me" he said turning to his computer. I picked the file and turned to leave his office.
"Also, avoid direct eye contact with me. I don't want a repetition of what happened some minutes ago" he said behind me.
"Yes sir" I answered dashing out of his office. I walked straight to my desk and breathed in relief. The telephone rang again and I picked it faster this time. "Sir?"
"Send an email to me so that I can access your email account" and the line went dead. Seriously?
I searched carefully for any clue of his email and found it in the file he has given me. I quickly sent him an email before going through the file.
It was more like a contract because it contained rules, my duties and responsibilities as his personal assistant and our time table. Funny enough, he actually drafted a time table for me, most of my time would be spent in meetings and conferences.
I found it hard to agree to most of his terms but the price tag was catchy. I signed the file before receiving a new email from him.
He sent some documents to me, asking me to edit them. I finished on time packed the documents and moved to his office. I placed it on his table and turned to go before he called me back.
"Miss Amelia, did you understand everything in the file I sent to you?" He asked twirling his pen in his hands.
"Most of them sir, I couldn't look into all of it" I replied honestly. Truth be told, I was too lazy to read every single details in the file. Let's just say, I looked into the ones I deemed important.
"Go to Mrs Williams, she will give you a document. Bring it to me, it needs my signature"
"Right away sir" I answered moving out of his office. I took the elevator to the 2nd floor where Mrs Williams office was located.
I Knocked on Mrs Williams door before I was ushered in. She quickly handed the file to me but it fell off my hand.
"I hope Mr Rolland does not see this clumsy side of yours" she said concerned.
"Mr Rolland?, Who's he please?" I asked and she gasped. "Your boss and you need to start going, he is not going to take it lightly with you if he finds out we were discussing at working hours" she said giving me a push out of her door.
"I must comment Mrs Williams, this company has a lot of rules and most of them are almost impossible to adhere to" I said moving out of her office and to the fourth floor.
Mr Rolland was coming out of his office when I came out of the elevator. He looked greatly annoyed.
"Seems you are trying to get on my nerves. How many minutes will it take you to get the files I sent you to?" He queried.
"I'm sorry sir" I apologized. "Go downstairs and get me a pen from the receptionist. You have 5 minutes to do that, I will call her to confirm so you better watch yourself. If it exceeds the stipulated time, you won't like the outcome" he said moving into his office. "Use the stairs and don't dare me Miss" he said and shut the door. I mopped at his closed door in disbelief before realizing that time was ticking.
