Chapter 9

Amelia
I was very tired by the time I got home. I removed my shoes and rubbed my ankle sighing in satisfaction as it seemed to release the pain.
With my shoes in hand, I walked inside my room to find Daisy on my bed typing away in her laptop. I walked in fully and she looked up at me smiling.
"Hey girl, how did it go?" She asked, "good?" I answered moving straight to the bathroom.
I came out minutes later and wore my pyjamas, then plonked on the bed with a thump.
"What ya doing?" I asked Daisy, "arranging the mails I received today". Daisy works in NGC, a newscasting company. She gathers informations and sends to her boss who in turn reviews and gives it to the newscaster to announce.
I laid comfortably beside her and was about giving in to sleep when my phone beeped.
"Hey" Daisy shook me, "you have a message". "I know" I answered sleepily. "And........, What are you waiting for? Check it out will you?" She said turning back to her laptop.
"Ok, I will do that when I wake up" I said closing my eyes. I felt myself pushed out of bed till I fell on the floor.
"what was that for?" I whined. "Check your damn phone" Daisy replied with gritted teeth. "Okay....." I drawled picking up my phone, "why is she getting worked up over nothing?" I muttered as I unlocked my phone. I sat beside her as I scrolled down my messages.
"What?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I shrieked making Daisy jump in fright. "What?" She asked concerned and I gave her a big smile making her confused.
"I. Got. The. Job!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed happily and she joined me jumping around the room in joy before she finally hugged me.
"I'm so proud of you. You know what this calls for?" She asked wriggling her brows and my smile faded almost immediately. "No please" I pleaded. "Yes please" she mimicked me, "I'm calling up the girls" she said exiting the room and I fell back on the bed with mixed feelings.
First, I was happy I got the job, I couldn't ask for more.
Secondly, I didn't want to go out, I would love to stay back at home and prepare for work tomorrow, speaking of work. I dashed to my phone and scrolled down the message for more info.
It says, lateness is not tolerated and I should move to Mrs Williams office immediately I come to the company for directions. Her office number was in the message, together with the necessary documents I was advised to come with.
Just then, Daisy entered my room, her phone in hand. "The girls are coming. Now to get you ready" she said moving to my wardrobe. "Daisy, I don't want to go out" I stated seriously and she turned to me.
"What are you saying girl?, you got a job in your dream company. This calls for a celebration, a party!, Why don't you want to celebrate it? Besides, you never know how busy you may become when you start working. This may be our last party with the girls" she reasoned.
Somehow, she was right. "Ok I'm in" I agreed and she smiled turning back to the wardrobe. She dropped a simple pink gown on the bed and moved out of my room to hers.
***************
Soon, we were done and ready to go, although a huge part of me still wanted to stay back. "Why the long face?" Daisy asked smacking her lips. "I'm sure no guy will want to approach you with that face" she teased and I gasped.
"You little.." I screeched running after her. She entered her car and I followed, soon we were driving out of the house to the club.
Mary and Clara waved at us immediately we entered the club and we made a beeline to their seats.
We exchanged pleasantries and sat down. "Hi, Amelia right?" Someone greeted and I turned to meet Jennifer. you remember Jennifer from the company, the receptionist?, That's her. "Hi" I greeted simply.
"My bad, girls meet my new roommate Jennifer, she didn't want to be left all alone at home so I offered to bring her with me, hope you guys don't mind?" Clara explained.
"Not at all" Daisy said sipping her drink.
"So girl, heard you finally got a job" Mary said to me and I smiled brightly, "wow congrats" Clara said, "which company is that?"
"Stones???" I answered and they gasped. "No way" Clara said, "way to go girl" Mary said and I giggled in delight. "That's a big catch, menn, I heard the CEO is handsome but cold, I hope you don't enter his bad side" Clara blabbed, she's actually the blabbermouth in our group.
"Congrats Amelia"Jennifer said smiling at me. "Urmm thanks?" I answered giving her a faux smile. I don't like this girl at all, she gives me the creeps.
"Let's party girls, that's why I brought her"Daisy said standing up from her seat.
"Don't get drunk, Amelia" Jennifer advised and I nodded as we began dancing to the tune playing in the room.
*************
I woke up with a pounding headache, my alarm was ringing loudly and I threw it away making it stop, I yawned loudly and reached for my bedstand only to fall on the floor. I opened my eyes and realized I slept on the couch. I yawned loudly and picked up my phone.
I shrieked in fear as I saw the time, I jumped out of bed and dashed into the bathroom, cursing as I prepared for work. Thank God I selected my office wear before going for that party. I grabbed my bag and shoes with my files in between my teeth as I dashed out of my room.
Daisy was coming out of her room, she was still in her PJs and I glared at her. "Good morning" she said cutely, "your hair bonnet is still on your head and you look crazy" she said walking into the kitchen. I entered her room and looked at my self in the mirror. Truly, there was no difference in what she said.
I removed the hair bonnet, retouched my makeup and brushed my hair. I wore my shoes and held my files in hand. When I felt I was decent enough, I walked out of the room and out of the house. I entered a cab and prayed I won't loose the job because of late coming.
