Daniel got to the hospital in no time, parked his car, and jumped out of it in a haste. He opened the door to the police station and walked in carrying his bags of documents. Who knows? Anyone may be of use. He stopped at the first table where he sighted a cop busy on his PC. “Hi. I am Mr. Landon Hernandez's Lawyer, I need to speak to my Client.” He said and the cop raised his head to look at him. “Hi. Meet that lady over there, she would lead you to where he is.” He responded and Daniel nodded. “thank you.” He said walking from his presence and walking to the lady cop at the other end. “Hi, can I see Mr. Landon Hernandez? I am his Lawyer.” He said and she nodded. “Yes sure, you can. Please follow me.” She said leading the way, and Daniel followed behind her. She led him into the interrogation room where Landon was still seated. “Here you go.” She said making way for Daniel to enter. “Thank you.” He said walking in and the lady cop shut the door outside and stood next to it. “Mr. Landon,” Daniel called looking at Landon who still had his head laid on the table. Landon seemed lost to Daniel, so he had to go closer to him and tap him on the shoulder. “Mr. Landon. I am here now.” He said in a low tone so as not to startle him. Landon jolted out of his thoughts and raised his head to see Daniel staring at him. His eyes were all red and Daniel realized he must have been crying. “Thanks for coming,” Landon muttered and Daniel pulled the chair closer and sat. “It is my responsibility to show up anytime you need me, Mr. Landon. So please tell me what happened.” Daniel said pulling out his notes and pen from his bag. “Kimberly and I went to visit Racheal her mother. Before we left home, she had used her drugs so we didn’t bother taking it along. When we got there, we talked and talked but it wasn’t for so long. To me, I didn’t expect the drugs to have worked out of her body already.” “she got into the car and I had a very short chat with Racheal before getting out of the house too. I got to the car and I saw Kim looking so strange. She was all sweaty, and it looked like she was in pain. I rushed into the car and ignited the engine and drove out in haste.” He narrated and Daniel jotted all he was saying in his note. “So what happened next?” He asked after few minutes of catching up with what Landon had narrated. “I headed home. I didn’t think of heading to the hospital at first because I thought if she used the drugs on time she would be just fine since it wasn’t the first time it would happen.” “I got home very soon, she was still breathing but looked so tired. I climbed down and rushed to the mansion to get her drugs and water. Her father, Peter was at our house at that moment. I told him Kimberly needed to use her drugs immediately, and as I ran up the stairs, he ran out of the house.” “I got to the drugs and ran back to the car to see she had lost consciousness. I threw the drugs at the back of the car and ran to the other side, to get in the car. I started the engine, and as soon as Peter also hopped in, I drove out of the compound recklessly.” “I was so scared something more terrible would happen to her if she didn’t see a doctor on time. My eyes were blinded with my tears and my head full of different scary and saddening thoughts. I wouldn’t take it if she died because of me.” He said and Daniel raised his hand to stop him. “Die because of you? How is this your fault?” He asked and Landon sighed. He remembered he was yet to tell Daniel his donor was Kimberly. “Kimberly gave me one of her Kidney Daniel, even though the doctor told her it was risky.” He said and Daniel's eyes widened. “Why are you just telling me this?” He asked. “She didn’t tell me until recently too. She kept it away from me in the hospital, I never knew she was my donor I would have stopped her.” He said and Daniel breathed out. “We would talk about that later. Continue the narration.” He said bowing his head to look at his book. “As I said, I drove recklessly and I didn’t see the old woman that was crossing the road because my eyes were all teary.” He said in tears and this forced Daniel to look up. He had never seen Landon this broken since he had known him. “I couldn’t stop because I didn’t want to lose Kimberly, the police followed behind me and ordered me to stop but I refused. I didn’t want to, I wanted to get to the hospital first before attending to anything else. Peter at the back seat who had been warning me to watch output a call across to the emergency unit immediately I hit the old woman. He called for an ambulance.” He said and Daniel signaled him to stop talking. “You didn’t stop driving because you didn’t want your ill girlfriend to die, so her father called the ambulance to the rescue of the old woman.” He said and Landon nodded. “Yes.” He replied. “You may continue.” He said still writing in his notes. Landon nodded cleaning his hearty eyes before speaking up again. “I got to the hospital and then called the nurses out to help Kimberly. The cops stopped at the hospital too and asked me to raise my hands, I did and then they dragged me down here.” He said and Daniel nodded. “Thank you for the information.” He said and Landon nodded. “I didn’t intentionally leave the poor woman. I wasn’t Myself and I was so confused.” Landon said in a shaky voice and Daniel nodded. “I know Landon. I am getting you out of here very soon. You would see Kimberly very soon.” He said and Landon tried to smile faintly. “Thank you, Daniel.” He said and Daniel smiled with pity. *** “Please Doctor, can we see her now?” Peter asked with tears in his eyes and he nodded. “Yes, you can. But you can’t stay there for long. She needs adequate rest because I injected some drugs into her which would make her fall asleep anytime soon.” He explained and Peter nodded. “I would go and see her now.” He said standing up with Rachael and walking out of the office. He walked down the hallway in haste and Rachael followed behind him. “Have you thought about this well? I mean, you would die.” She said and he stopped abruptly making her flinch. “if you can’t help situations, please shut up!! You don’t have to remind me that I would die, I know that already. You know what? Get out!” he said in a loud tone pulling people’s attention. “What? She is also my daughter. I can’t just leave.” She said and he scoffed. “Stop talking like you have been a good mother right from the beginning. You are the cause of all her problems after all. She would never accept you, so just go away! You disgust me!” Peter yelled in tears and tears heated up Rachel’s eyes immediately. She turned and ran out of the hospital feeling ashamed of herself. Peter breathed in and out severally trying to calm himself down before going into the ward. “I can’t let my daughter see me this way.” He thought cleaning his face.
