Chapter 56

He got into the ward and met Kim laying on the bed with her eyes shut. Tears threatened to fall off his eyes but he refused to let it.
He walked closer to her bed and sat on the bed next to her.
Kimberly felt someone was next to her, so she opened her eyes slowly to find out who it was.
Her vision became clear and it happened to be her Dad.
“Dad.” She said happily, letting out a tired but genius smile.
“My baby. How are you?” Peter asked in tears. The thought of not seeing his daughter anymore hunted him and he felt so bad.
He wished he could give her the kidney and still be alive. But that isn’t possible, he would have to die. But he was ready, this is a road he is willing to pass.
“I am fine. How did I get here?” she asked looking around the ward in confusion.
“You lost consciousness in the car when Landon brought you home. So he had to rush you to the hospital.” Peter narrated and he saw her looking around again.
“Where is Landon?” she asked looking at Peter.
Peter sighed heavily, he knew it was a very bad time to tell her what happened to Landon.
“He went to sort some things with the doctor, he would be with us soon.” He said nodding as he spoke. She nodded in return shutting her eyes and opening them again.
“What did the doctor say? Extra pills for me to use?” She asked with a smile on her face, and this hurt Peter a lot.
“Not really. Kim, you don’t have to be concerned about that now. You will be just fine.” He said and Kim nodded slowly.
She didn’t want to insist so she kept mute.
“Mother didn’t show up? Or she didn’t hear?” she further asked.
“She did show up, but I chased her back home. She was annoying me, so I needed her to leave.” He replied and she sighed.
“She is always missing when I need her the most.” She said shutting her eyes again.
“The doctor told me you have been given some sleeping drugs, you should get back to sleep now. You need adequate rest.” Peter said realizing she was sleepy and was just forcing herself to communicate.
“Yes, Dad. I need to rest because I feel too sleepy.” She said with her eyes still shut. Peter kept mute and watched her as she drifted into the dreamland once again.
Tears poured from his eyes as he watched her sleep.
“I am going to miss you, baby, I am going to miss you so much. But it’s for the better, you deserve more than what life is giving you. I won’t let you suffer because you are the last person that should.” He muttered standing up and walking out of the ward.
He walked down to the doctor's office again. He knocked on the door and walked in cleaning his teary eyes.
“When can the surgery be done? I want it as soon as possible.” Peter said and the doctor nodded.
“ I understand you. But the surgery can be tomorrow night, because there are other schedules fixed for today and tomorrow.” He explained and Peter understood.
“Will she be fine before that time?” he asked and the doctor bobbed.
“Of course she would. Her state is a critical one, but she can stay alive a day and even more at the hospital.” He explained and with full understanding, Peter bobbed again.
“Okay then. Thank you so much, I would be here throughout today and tomorrow.” He said and the doctor nodded.
“I admire your brave steps, Mr. Peter, I must say Miss Kimberly is just like you. Taking risks and sacrifices for who we love. I covet that about the both of you.” He said and tears rolled down Peter's eyes unexpectedly.
“She deserves more. She is the only best thing that has ever happened to me. She is the only best thing my wife gave to me, and I would do anything to make sure she is doing fine, whether I am dead nor alive.” He said and the doctor felt so touch with what he said.
“Mr. Peter, please sit. I want to discuss something with you.” He said and Peter sat down almost immediately.
“Sure. I am all ears.” He said looking at the doctor.
“I can see how much you love your daughter, and I don’t think you deserve to die. Your death would affect her so much and you know it…”
“But she would be happy at last.” Peter cut in and the doctor nodded.
“I know she would be. But I wish you would be around to see how she is doing, I know you want that too. So instead of giving her your own, why not make publicity to the mass, in search of a kidney?” he asked and Peter bowed his head.
“I already thought of that, and I have decided not to do it. Moreover, it would take time and money. Doctor, this real thing is, I am not happy with my life anymore. Kimberly is my only happiness, and seeing her that way is killing me. I can’t wait for days or weeks seeing her like that when I can help her out as soon as possible.”
“My life is tiring already. So I want to make sure I give Kimberly before it gets wasted.” He said and the doctor nodded.
“I am so sorry Mr. Peter.” He said and Peter stood up shaking his head.
“It is nothing. I am doing it for my daughter, it is totally fine.” He said walking out of the office. He shut the door and rested his back on it crying profusely.
He didn’t know exactly why the tears couldn’t just stop flowing. He just kept crying.
“I will do anything for you baby.”
