The Last Laugh 11

“I'm fine, Sir. How may I help you, Sir?” The guard inquired respectfully.
“I want to see Evans,” he requested.
“Who is Evans?” The guard, who was not aware of another name apart from the GMD, inquired with a worried look. Now, Bruno was reluctant to address Evans as the Group Managing Director, but he had no choice.
“I mean the Group Managing Director,” he remarked.
“I see. Visitors are not permitted to drive in, Sir. That is the visitors' park,” the guard advised, pointing at the visitors' car park.
“Who says I'm a visitor? Don't you know me?” Bruno blurted out.
“Who are you, Sir?” The guard, who had never seen him at a close range or seen him driving himself, inquired innocently.
At that point, Silas, who had been watching them from the surveillance and felt that the guard had spent longer time with the visitor, sent for him.
“Who is that and what does he want?” Silas inquired when the guard walked up to him.
“He said he came to see the Group Managing Director.”
“For what?” Silas asked, and walked out of the gatehouse at once to see the visitor. To his surprise, he saw Bruno's personal car and he stopped suddenly. Then, he turned to the guard and inquired, “What did you tell him when he said he came to see the GMD?” “I made him to understand that visitors are not permitted to drive into the premises, and showed him the visitors' park.”
“That is good. Go back and ask him if he has an appointment with the GMD. If no, he should leave at once,” Silas stated. Howbeit, using the guard, who did not recognize him anymore, was quite convenient for him to achieve his aim of dishonoring him out of the premises.
“It is noted boss,” the empowered guard responded and walked out of the office before he walked with impetus to the provocative visitor. Now, the impatient Bruno assumed that the guard had been rightly informed and had come to usher him in. Much to his chagrin, the guard was rather rude.
“Do you have an appointment with him?” The guard asked. Now, the disgruntled former General Manager looked askance at the disrespectful guard, and he mistook it for disregard and commanded, “If you don't have an appointment with him, you can leave at once.”
Against Bruno's wish, he resolved to give the GMD a call. He had wanted to barge into his office and let him know that he had come to resume his work. Now, the disrespectful guard. He dialed his number and waited for the GMD to pick. Nevertheless, he watched his phone rang until the call timed out. He did that twice and got the same result. Then, he deigned to speak to Silas. To his disappointment, he was on another call.
“Did you get what I said? I will get the towing van to tow your vehicle away,” the guard who waited patiently for him to move warned.
At the Group Managing Director's Office.
Evans was busy with work when the phone on his desk buzzed. He glanced at it and noticed the caller and hissed. When he made that promise that there was room for Bruno to reapply, he hoped to see a repentant Bruno and not an irresponsible one, who would abandon his wife and children to their fate in the face of opposition.
“What does he want?” He murmured and paid no heed to him. After the call timed out, he decided to give Silas a call, but it rang again. When Bruno made up his mind to give Silas a call, it happened that he was on a call with Evans. After the call, he walked to the gate to relay the GMD's message to him. Nevertheless, he met the aggrieved guard threatening him.
At the Gate
“Good day, Mr. Bruno. How may I help you?” Silas greeted. Now, the guard stopped ranting and looked on.
“Yes, Silas. Inform Evans that I'm here to see him.” “He asked me to find out from you what your mission is.”
“I have come to resume my work just as it was agreed during the meeting with Mr. Warfield at the last meeting,” Bruno emphasized. He did not wish to admit that Evans was benevolent by giving him the room to reapply. Nevertheless, the way his wife fainted out of shock was still fresh in Silas'mind, and his arrogance and pomposity provoked him the more. Now, to ruin Bruno's day as he had ruined his, Silas relayed the GMD's message rudely. “The GMD said if you have come to reapply, you can drop your application letter in the application bank and when there is a vacancy, we will reach out to you.”
Silas was delighted to see his mood drop. To rub it in, he continued, “You can move away. You are obstructing the gate.” Now Silas walked away and hoped that he would be intelligent enough to comply, and he did. Before Silas could take three steps, he had driven away.
At the General Manager's House.
Previously, Susan had recovered and returned home. To ensure that she was stable, Evans advised her that she should take her time.
“Don't let anything trouble you. You need all the rest.”
“Thank you, GMD. I appreciate.”
Nevertheless, Susan was overwrought with her husband and decided that she would forget about him.
“For five years, we have lived like total strangers. Of what use is the marriage?” She grumbled. Meanwhile, her children's school had reopened for the academic session, and she sent them back to school.
“Mom, don't be sick again,” Cindy pleaded the day she took them back to school. “I will be fine, my dear,” she assured them. Just as the GMD promised, she is still occupying the apartment and none of her staff withdrawn.
At Sharon's Apartment.
Bruno left the Industrial Area devastated. He thought that his tricks would work, and Evans would ask him to resume as though nothing happened. Now, he could not think of an alternative than to reapply.
“Which organization would hire me with the scandal attached to my dismissal?” He mumbled while driving home. Subsequently, he resolved, “I will rather humble myself and reapply. After all, he is a gentleman, who must live up to his words.”
