DEVON "My brothers want to meet you," I said to Theo as I entwined our fingers together. We were both sitting on the bed in my room with my head resting on Theo's shoulder. "I don't think that's a good idea. How is it possible that they can see me?" Theo asked. I shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe you could figure it out when you meet them. Are you afraid of them?" I asked, tilting my head to look at him with a smile on my lips. "Pfft. Afraid? Nah. I'm just being cautious." I grinned, tracing the golden tattoo around his wrist with my free hand. "You look stressed," I pointed out and he gave me a half smile. "I do?" "Yeah." "Well for starters, I have a lot on my mind and I'm trying to think of ways to get your brothers to like me," he shrugged "How sure are you that they're not going to like you?" I asked. "It's logical . Most brothers hate their sister's boyfriend. It's always like that. The first meeting always goes wrong. I guarantee that one of your brothers is more likely to punch me in the face. It's like a tradition" he said and I sighed. "I won't let them" I said, pressing a kiss to his cheek He smiled at me. "It's not up to you, love" I pouted. "Then, I'll kiss it better if you get hit" I said. "I'd like that" I haven't gotten around the fact that I have such a beautiful mate and he's mine. I mean, it's not everyday one wakes up and finds out that faeries actually exist. "I didn't tell you about Karla, did I?" He asked and I blinked. "My best friend? How do you know her?" I asked. "I've known that you two were friends even when you were kids. I know it sounds creepy but I liked to watch you two act like princesses. It was always very interesting to watch" he said and I blushed hard. "I can't believe you saw that" I said. Wait, if he's watched me almost every time, then he must've seen me in a towel or in the shower! Holy macaroni! 'Don't think too hard, Dev. I can see the wheels of your brain turning. Aaand, no. I didn't see any of that. I'm a lot of things but I'm not a pervert' My eyes went wide when I realized that he'd just spoken in my head. "Shit, I forgot that you can read my mind" I groaned, burying my head in his chest. He laughed. It sounded like music to my ears. "No need to be shy" he said. "It's so not fair. You get to feel what I'm feeling. You get to read my mind. You get to speak in my head and I get to do nothing" I pouted. "You can do all those things if you concentrate. The only difference is that you can feel only a tiny bit of what I feel" he said, stroking my hair. My eyes widened like saucers. "I can? You mean I can read your mind and can speak to you in your head?" "Yup. Our minds are connected." "Like a mindlink?" I asked "Like a mindlink," he replied "Wow. Can I read your mind now?" I asked and he nodded. "Just concentrate" he said as I looked into his golden eyes. 'You're so beautiful' I gasped when I realized that he was thinking about me. My face heated up. "Not bad for your first time" he grinned. "You were going to tell me something about Karla" I said, brushing his hair away from his face. "She's not entirely human. Kayden came to her in another form. He compelled her to kill you. Somehow, half of her soul was detached and she came to find me. She's a wanderer" "Wow. That's strange. What's a wanderer?" "Wanderers are creatures that can detach their souls. They can be in several places at the same time. They can also use time to their advantage" he said. "That's amazing" I said and he smiled. "Is she okay now?" I asked. "Yeah, she's fine" "Thank you" I said to him "You don't have to thank me, love" "You'll come over for dinner tomorrow, right?" I asked. "What about your dad?" He asked. "He's not going to be home" "Fine" he said. "I guess you're technically my boyfriend now" I said and he grinned, his thumb caressing my cheek. "Of course, girlfriend" he whispered, planting a kiss to the corner of my lips. His bracelet began to glow. "I guess it's time for you to go" I said. "Yeah, I have to go" I didn't want him to leave just yet but he looked like he really needed to leave. Just as he stood up and walked towards the window, he clutched his head, eyes screwed shut. A bolt of pain invaded my skull and I grimaced. He was in pain. "Theo-" I said, reaching out to touch him. "Don't" he choked out. "Why?" I asked, confused. "Just don't touch me. Stay in the corner of your room. Don't come any closer" he said through gritted teeth. Worried, I moved backwards and leaned against the wall in the far corner of my room. His knees buckled and he leaned against my window. There was a harsh white glow that was wrapping itself around him and was slowly spreading across the room. I pressed my body closer to the wall, my heart thudding madly. Theo sank to his knees and the light faded into nothing. He knelt there, hair falling over his face. He was still trembling from the pain. I slowly made my way to his side and brushed his hair away from his face. He slowly opened his eyes, looking very exhausted. "What was that?" I breathed, my voice shaky. He let out a shaky breath and leaned on the wall. I held his hand, watching him as he stared at the floor. "The Hexagon," he said and I frowned, still confused. "What's the hexagon?" I asked. He slowly looked up. "They're like a council that governs the forgotten. Any half blood creature is tagged as a forgotten." "So, they're like some sort of government?" I asked and he nodded. "I'm a night walker.... meaning that I guard during the night. Think of it like some sort of night guard except... I guard the humans and protect them from evil and vile creatures" "That's why you leave every night?" I said, smiling. "Yes. Anyway, the hexagon doesn't know that I'm actually the crown prince of the four lands of the fae kingdom. They have their suspicions about me. They want to know what I am. They've been monitoring me ever since the night I was ill and couldn't carry out my duty. They can't find out that I'm not what they think I am. They can't find out that you're my mate. They might kill you if they do" A shudder ran through me. "What they just did few minutes ago, was to identify my location. They believe I have something to do with the recent demon summons. If the glow touched you, they would identify that you're my mate and they would as well discover where I am at this moment. I had to mask my location. They would believe that I'm still at home" he said. "I don't want anything to happen to you. What if they-" "I'll be careful" he whispered and kissed my cheek. "I have to go now. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" "Okay" I watched him jump out of my window and vanish into thin air. .... THEO I took a deep breath and stepped into the hallway of the Hexagon HQ. The building was made of pure glass and it towered above nine feet. To humans, the building would look like an old church that had been abandoned. As soon as I got to the entrance of the head of the Hexagon's office, I brought down my hood. I knocked on the heavy door and it swung open almost immediately. Dwain, the head of the Hexagon sat behind a large mahogany desk with a glass of wine in hand. "Theodore. Thank you for honouring my invitation," he stated, giving me a smile that made my skin crawl. "I'm sorry I didn't let you go home even after the long night you had," he said, gesturing to the chair in front of his desk. I clenched my fist and sat down. "You used the Tryx on me, why?" I demanded. He smiled, moving towards the large windows. "I apologize for that, but you're fine now, aren't you?" He said and I glared at him. He was trying to bait me, trying to make me reveal my secrets. Normal night walkers takes three days to recover from an intense Tryx (a tracking spell which is usually used on criminals). It paralyses the muscles and blinds the person it is used on for three days. "I am NOT a CRIMINAL" I growled. "Of course, you're not. But, I have my reasons. You are the only one among the night walkers who was able to destroy a dozen Drax demon on your own. You are the only one who has survived demon poisoning even when the healers arrived three days late. Your abilities are beyond what I've seen before. We know you're not telling us everything." "You can't prove anything" I stressed. "Not yet" he said, shaking his head. "You sent some night walkers to monitor me, didn't you?" "Oh... you mean Ralph and Aron? They refused to keep monitoring you after you and your friend discovered them" he said. I rolled my eyes and rose to my feet. "Why exactly did you call me here? To accuse me? To make me talk?" I questioned, my temper rising. He shook his head and poured another glass of wine. "Calm down. Have a seat," he urged. I was so close to exploding and he knew it. I clenched my jaw and sat down. He handed me a glass of wine. "Drink" I stared at him. "You must think that I'm stupid," I said. "I didn't poison the wine, My boy. Just relax. You're too tense" he said. "Come on, Theodore. If I wanted to poison you... I would've done so before now. I didn't put anything in it. You have my word" I slowly brought the glass of wine to my lips. It smelt odd....it smelt like vanilla. I put the glass down. "No thanks," I said Dwain grinned, looking pleased. "I'm just going to ask you a few questions. All you have to do is relax and answer them truthfully," he said. My stomach churned uncomfortably. My head was starting to pound. "Have you found your Soulmate?" Something in me was screaming at me to say yes. It took everything in me to refuse. I'm a fairy and lying was against my nature. Fairies don't lie, but they can avoid being straight forward sometimes. "Maybe" I choked out, my head spinning. "Don't fight it. Have you found your Soulmate?" "Not sure why you're asking me that" I said. "What are you exactly?" He asked. "A night walker" I said through gritted teeth. The smile on his face disappeared. I could feel my nose bleeding. I realized what he'd done. He'd put a truth serum in the wine and I'd inhaled the vapor. "What are you exactly?" He asked. I clutched my head, my nose bleeding worsening. "You, tell me" He leaned back on his chair as I stumbled to my feet. "Once again, I've underestimated your abilities" he said. I stumbled towards the door but someone else tried to stop me. "Let him go." "Fuck you," I spat and left the office. I hurried out of the building, feeling very lightheaded. Cursing under my breath, I wiped off the blood from my nose, using the sleeve of my hoodie.
