Chapter 12 Strange Prophecy

DEVON
"Dev, honey! Get the door!" My mum yelled from the kitchen. I smoothened my yellow dress and walked up to the door. I was nervous, though.
I twisted the door knob and opened the door. Theo stood there dressed in a white v-necked T-shirt and a blue hooded sweatshirt, paired up with blue jeans and white sneakers. "Hey" he breathed, beaming at me. "You look really nice" he commented and I blushed, stepping aside for him to come in. "Is that your boyfriend?!" Mum yelled from the kitchen.
"Yes, mum!" I replied.
I heard footsteps from the kitchen and from the stairs.
'Great, here goes' I thought
"Shit, I think this is a bad idea" Theo muttered and I squeezed his hand reassuringly.
"There's no going back now" I said. "Will my mum be able to see you now?" I asked.
He nodded.
My mum stepped into view and she gasped, eyes wide.
"Oh, good gracious. Why? He's gorgeous" she breathed.
"Mum, this is Theo and Theo...meet my mum," I said.
He smiled nervously as she came forward.
"Call me Brielle, Theo. It's nice to finally meet you" she said, embracing him.
"It's nice to meet you too, Brielle" he said and she chuckled.
I looked up and my brothers were standing there. They both had huge smirks on their faces.
Oh for goodness sake, here we go again.
"There's the lover boy" Allen said, watching Theo intently.
"Wow, he's so....shiny" Melvin stated and Theo raised a brow.
"I'm Melvin.... you are?" Melvin asked.
"Theo" he said as he accepted Melvin's handshake.
"You don't look irresponsible...so you have 20 points from me" Allen shrugged.
"Mum, is dinner not ready yet? It's time for a little dinner time chit chat" Allen said, moving over to the dinning room.
"Why are your eyes glowing?" Melvin asked Theo who was trying not to laugh.
"They just do" Theo replied. "There's something off about you. I don't like you" Melvin said, narrowing his eyes.
"C'mon, Mel... Leave the poor guy alone. You're going to suffocate him with that steely glares of yours. Let him breathe" mum said from the dinning room.
"We're not done here" Melvin said, his eyes still narrowed before he left Theo and I.
"Told ya" Theo said to me and I shrugged.
"He's just being a very annoying jerk. Anyway, how can my mum see you?" I asked. "I lessened the brightness of my aura, that's why. Melvin can see my aura clearly because he's not a human"
"Wait, what?" I asked, confused.
How the hell was Melvin not human?
"He's a seer. A very talented one at that. It takes a very powerful seer to be able to see right through the aura of a lightbearer especially one as intense as mine"
I stared at him, wide eyed.
Melvin, a seer?
What the fuck?
...
"So, you're not human" Melvin said, staring at Theo who was slowly digging into his meal. "I'm half human" he replied. "Really? Wow.... Is it your mum or your dad who's human?" Mum asked and he stiffened, his grip on the fork tightening.
"My mum" he replied.
"She must've been pleased to have you"
He dropped his gaze.
"No, she wasn't" he said and my mum's gaze softened.
"I'm so sorry about that, Theo" my mum said.
"It's okay, Brielle. You didn't know. Besides, I'm glad that Devon has such an amazing mother" he said and my mum beamed. She gazed at him with admiration. Who wouldn't love Theo? There isn't anything to hate about him.
"Devon has never been in love do you know that?" Allen asked and I glared at him. "It doesn't matter.... we're soulmates and we'll make things work" Theo replied. "How sure are you? I mean she's not like your kind" Melvin said.
Theo smiled.
"I care a lot about her and will protect her with my life" he said, Allen grinned.
"I like you, Theo but that doesn't mean I'm going to let you break my sister's heart, got it?" Allen said.
"I know"
"I'm sure you do. I know you visit her every night in her room. Whatever you two are doing, let it be-" Allen was interrupted by Melvin.
"What the hell? He comes to her room every night?!"
"Watch your language, young man" mum said.
"I'm sure they haven't done anything-" mum said.
"No, I can tell they're both hiding something" Melvin said. "No-"
Melvin's fist collided with Theo's face just as he made to say something.
"Melvin! Stop!" I cried, glaring at Melvin who was still looking upset.
"I don't understand. Why are you doing this?! " I said.
"Theo, honey. Are you okay?" My mum asked as she got to her feet.
"I'm fine. It's okay.... Look, you can hit me as many times as you want but Devon and I are made for each other. Not even you can change that. I'll do anything to protect her. She's safe with me" Theo said to Melvin who glared at him before storming off.
I grabbed the napkin and tried to stop Theo's nosebleed.
"I don't know what has gotten into him" I groaned, wiping his nose and chin.
He smiled at me.
"I'm so sorry for what my son did to you" Brielle said to Theo as he rose to his feet.
"It's fine. The food was great. I must say you're a great cook, Brielle" Theo said.
My mum grinned.
"You're so charming. I'm glad my daughter has you" My mum said, giving him a hug.
"Thank you, ma'am"
"Don't hurt her, okay? Please be careful"
Theo nodded and we both went to the porch.
Melvin was standing right there, his eyes unreadable.
"I need to talk to him, privately" Melvin said to me.
"Don't hit him again, got it?" I growled.
"Of course, of course" he said and I pressed a kiss to Theo's cheek before leaving them alone.
....
THEO
"I'm pretty sure you know that everything I did and said was just me acting up" Melvin said to me and I smiled. "I know"
"I'm sorry for hitting you. I just wanted to know how you would react" He said, his blue eyes glowing.
"You don't need to apologise for that. I totally get it" I said. "You do?"
"Yup"
"I don't dislike you...I just want to know what we're dealing with here. She's my only sister and I want her to be happy. If you ever hurt her, you'll get something far worse than a nasty punch, got it?"
"Sure"
"Every night I get strange dreams about the future. I know you're tougher than you look.... I don't know what I am exactly but I think you know what I am"
"You're right. I know what you are. You're a seer"
Melvin's eyes widened.
"Well, that's not half bad. But, you should be careful. There's a lot of darkness lurking around. Your lost friend will become your foe " Melvin said, patting my shoulder before leaving the porch.
Your lost friend will become your foe?
What did that even mean?
Was he talking about Lucian?
Definitely not.
Besides, Lucian wasn't lost.
....
"What did he say?" Devon asked me, looking very curious. I shrugged.
"He apologized to me and told me he only wanted to protect you" I said and she sighed. "Well he has a terrible way of showing it" she groaned.
"I expected the punch anyway. Your brothers aren't that bad. At least, I know they really care about you and that's something" I said, stifling a yawn.
"You look exhausted" Devon said to me, her fingers sinking into my hair. I closed my eyes when she began to massage my scalp.
"Don't stop" I sighed, my eyes still closed.
"You should get some sleep, Theo" she said to me.
"I'm too tired to move. I would've loved to stay but we can't be too sure that the Hexagon won't try to track me again" I groaned.
"Come on, I'll take your home, you big baby" she said and I laughed.
I stifled another yawn and rose to my feet. We left the house and got into her car.
"When was the last time you had any sleep?" She asked as she drove the car.
"Seven days ago?"
She glared at me.
"I know you're Superman and all. But, you should still remember that you're half human" she said.
"I know" I sighed, closing my eyes. She parked the car when we got to the house.
Lucian opened the front door and stepped out with a smirk on his face. "Woah, you look drained" he said.
I rolled my eyes, taking off my sweatshirt.
"Good to know that I look as horrible as I feel" I said and pushed past him.
"Hey, princess. Decided to drop by again?" Luke said to Devon who smiled.
"I had to get him home. He's exhausted"
I released my hair from the ponytail, letting it cascade down my back.
"I bet he is. Have you two made out yet? Maybe that's why he's drained"
Fucking, Luke.
He talks trash all the time.
"Shut it, Luke. Don't be an ass" Devon said with amusement in her voice.
I ignored them and walked into my bedroom. Without bothering to take off my sneakers, I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes, my tense muscles slowly relaxing. I didn't want to think of the fact that Dwain had almost gotten me to talk. I didn't want to think about Melvin's weird statement. I just wanted to keep my mind blank for now.
...
LUKE
Devon and I stepped into Theo's room to check up on him. He was out like a light.
Devon smiled, gazing at him with admiration.
"Look at him. He's so cute!" She gushed and I laughed, plopping down on the couch.
"I'm guessing a lot of things has happened today. He's normally not this tired" I said. "You can say that again. I think something actually did happen before he came to my house today. Did he tell you about the' tracking whatever' that was used on him?" She said and I stared at her, shocked.
No way.
No freaking way.
'They didn't use the Tryx on him. Why would they?' I thought, annoyance simmering inside of me.
The Tryx was enough to put so much strain on him both mentally and physically.
"Is he in pain?" I asked Devon who shook her head
"He was in pain last night though"
I bit my lower lip, worried.
The hexagon was starting to play dirty and I didn't like that.
"I'm just really worried about him. All this is just too much for him. He can't continue to hide"
"He's stronger than you think. He'll be fine, you just need to have faith"
Devon nodded, gently tucking a blanket around my bestfriend. He sleeps like a baby, even I find it fascinating. I watched her as she brushed his hair away from his face. The sight of the both of them made me smile. "You know, the underworld is very different from here. In the underworld, the female makes the first move"
"Really?" Devon said, her eyes lighting up.
"Yup"
"So, I'm supposed to ask him out on a date?"
"If you can"
She blushed.
"Well, I will. Anything to make him happy. He deserves it"
I was glad my bestfriend had found such selfless mate. I hoped mine would be just as selfless as she was.
I stepped out of the room and left the house, strolling along the streets quietly. The cool breeze ruffled my hair. Mundanes moved by without seeing me. Suddenly, pain racked my whole body and I sank to the ground. Through blurry vision, I tried to make out the faces of my assailants.
All I saw was a flash of red and everything went black.
