Chapter 14 Dead But Not Dead

DEVON
Rachel went downstairs to get Luke some water, leaving Theo, Luke and I alone.
"What exactly did he ask you to do?" Theo said to Luke, his body rigid.
Luke heaved a sigh and rubbed his eyes.
"I'm guessing you've already seen the pain pill" he said and I narrowed my eyes.
Pain pill?
What the hell?
"Dwain asked me to sever the ties between you and Devon"
I froze, eyes wide.
"I refused, but somehow he has it in that sick and twisted mind of his, that I'm going to give in, because of the pain" Luke groaned.
I exchanged bewildered glances with Theo.
'Gosh, whoever Dwain is, he's an awful loser lord' I thought.
"I'm guessing he told you that he's the only one who can help you take it off" Theo said, pacing back and forth with his jaw clenched.
"He did. Stop pacing, you're making me feel dizzy" Luke groaned and he halted.
Theo narrowed his eyes and slowly started taking measured steps backwards.
"You've got to be kidding me" he said through gritted teeth as a familiar bright light began to spread across the room.
"What the hell?" Luke breathed, trying to sit up.
I backed up against the wall, my heart thudding madly. Thankfully, I managed to avoid getting touched by the Tryx. It slowly faded and I looked at Theo, worried.
He was trembling with both pain and anger. With his fist clenched, he exhaled slowly.
He was so mad, his eyes were glowing too bright.
Rachel walked in and furrowed her brows.
"What happened here?" She asked and we all stared at her before Theo stormed out of Luke's room.
"Okay? Is anybody going to tell me what's going on?"
"They used the fucking Tryx on him again" Luke said. He too was just as upset as Theo. The only difference was that he was in too much pain.
"I'll go check up on him" I said and slipped out of the room. Theo was facing the window when I walked into his room. I attempted to step closer but his cold voice stopped me.
"Don't," he said, not looking at me. "Why?" I asked.
"You can't see me like this," he said, letting out a shaky breath.
"See what? Theo, I don't care. I just... I just want to make sure you're okay," I said. "Well, I'm not" he snapped and I frowned.
"I know you're upset and all-"
"It's my eyes, Dev. They'll blind you," he said
" I can't get myself to calm down," he breathed.
I stared at him. It was then I saw the reflection of the light coming from his eyes.
"You won't hurt me, I know that" I said.
He shook his head, clenching his fist. Golden flames were slowly making their way up his arms. "Theo...."
"No" he said, trembling.
I took slow steps towards him. I just knew I had to get him to calm down before he damages the whole place.
"Stop, Dev. Please. I don't want to hurt you" he said, still trembling.
"You won't hurt me. You won't" I said as I stepped closer. I placed a hand on his shoulder and he stiffened.
"Calm down, Theo" I said.
"I-I can't" he rasped as the golden flames started to spread up to his torso.
I turned him around to face me and he squeezed his eyes shut. I placed a hand on the side of his face, with my other hand resting on his shoulder. "Breathe, Theo. I'm right here" I said.
"It's okay, open your eyes. I want you to look at me" I said. He shook his head, moaning. "N-no"
"Please" I whispered.
He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze resting on me, heavily. I gasped with surprise. I could barely see his pupils. All I could see was an intense burst of golden light where his eyes should be.
I blinked, realizing that I wasn't hurt. I ran my fingers through his hair.
"See? You're not hurting me" I whispered.
The light slowly dimmed and went back to normal, his pupils glowing slightly. I wrapped my arms around him, drawing him into my embrace. "I was so angry.... I lost control.. I...."
"It's okay, Theo. It's okay, really. Dwain is a looser lord and I know he'll pay for everything he did. But right now, Luke needs you. I need you" I said to him. He let out a sigh.
"Can you get the chip out?" I asked him.
"Yeah. Come on, let's get this over with" he said, rubbing his temple with his thumb.
He rubbed his eyes and followed me back to Luke's room. "Hey, stranger" Luke said to Theo, a smile tugging at his lips.
"You okay?" Luke asked.
Theo smiled.
"I'm okay. I'm going to get the chip out but it's going to hurt a lot. The pain will cease as soon as I take it off"
Luke nodded.
"Do it"
Theo took a deep breath and rolled up his sleeves.
"You're free to squeeze my hand as much as you can, Luka" Rachel said to Luke and he nodded again, taking a deep breath.
Theo's eyes burned brighter and golden mist swirled around his fingers as he moved it along the curve of Luke's neck. Luke inhaled shakily, his other hand gripping the sheets until his knuckles turned white. Theo's eyes were furrowed with concentration as he began to pull out the chip. Luke bit his lower lip as drops of blood began to dribble down his neck.
With one last tug, it was out. The chip fell to the ground noiselessly. "Thanks, Theo. I can finally breathe perfectly" Luke sighed heavily. Theo smiled and picked up the chip. "I'll get rid of it" Rachel said and he placed the green colored chip on her open palm. She left the room and Luke sat up. Theo rubbed his eyes, swaying a bit. I held his arm, steadying him.
"Woah, you should get some rest" I said to Theo.
"I'm fine" he said and I narrowed my eyes.
"Don't give me that bullshit, young man" I said.
Luke laughed.
"That's right. Drag his stubborn ass to bed" he said.
Theo chuckled, holding his arms up in surrender.
"Alright, Alright" he mumbled and left the room with me following behind him. He let out a groan as he laid down on his bed.
"Okay, I lied. I'm exhausted" he groaned, shutting his eyes. I smiled, tucking the blankets around him. He opened his eyes when I began to stroke his hair.
"Go out with me on Thursday" I said.
He raised a brow.
"Are you asking me out on a date, Devon Bradley?" He asked, amusement dancing in his golden eyes.
"Yeah" I said, blushing hard.
"Isn't that supposed to be my line?" He asked, shutting his eyes briefly.
"Luke told me....uh... that I'm supposed to... you know. Make the first move" I shrugged.
He chuckled.
"Fucking Luke. Why did he have to tell you that?" He said, shaking his head.
"So, is it a yes?" I asked and he grinned.
"It's a yes, Dev. I'll go on a date with you" he said.
"It's all on me, note that" I said and he nodded, sleepily.
"Now, go to sleep. I'm right here" I said, pressing a kiss to his head.
"Thanks, mom" he said, the corners of his lips twitching.
His eyes fell close; dark, elegant eyelashes resting on the skin beneath his eyes. He was so beautiful.
My phone rang and I cursed under my breath and quickly picked the call.
It was Karla.
I gazed at Theo, relaxing when I realized that he was still asleep.
"Dev?" Karla said, sniffing.
I sat upright quickly.
"Karla? What's wrong?" I breathed.
"I-uh- K-Kayden stopped by my house today" she cried.
"Did he hurt you?" I asked, rising to my feet.
"H-he burned me"
"Oh my God... Karla-"
"It's not that bad... it's just on my right arm... I'm fine. H-he threatened to kill you. He told me he'll visit you tonight. W-whatever you do. D-don't stay at home tonight"
"But, Karla-"
"Promise me you'll do what I asked you to do"
"I-I promise"
"Good. I'll see you tomorrow at school" she said and the line went dead.
I went downstairs, my heart thudding madly in my chest. The door bell rang and I frowned. Luke had come downstairs with a frown on his face.
"Are you expecting anyone?" I asked him.
"No, I'm not" he replied.
He slowly opened the door and his eyes widened a fraction. I stepped forward to see who was there.
What I wasn't expecting was the sight of my brother standing there, looking very grim. "M-Melvin? What are you doing here?" I asked, confused as to how he knew where Theo lives.
"Where's Theo?" He asked.
"He's upstairs. He's asleep" I said and he sighed.
"I know" he said and stepped in. "What's wrong? Why are you here?" I asked.
He still didn't say anything.
I noticed how bloodshot his eyes were. He was biting his lower lip, nervously.
"Mel? Why aren't you saying anything? Did something happen at home?" I asked.
Luke stared at us with a puzzled look on his face.
"Who is he?" Luke asked.
"He's my brother" I said.
"Oh.... I noticed the resemblance though" Luke said. Melvin slowly turned to look at me.
"Something happened, Dev" he said, his gaze transfixed on me.
My heart jumped to my throat.
Please let it not be something bad, I thought.
"What is it?" I asked.
He heaved a sigh.
"Allen was involved in an accident this morning...." He said and I gasped, tears pricking my eyes.
"He's going to be fine, right?" I asked, my heart thudding madly. "Wait, he hasn't finished" Luke said.
"He died two hours ago" Melvin rasped and I felt my heart jolt painfully.
No. No.
No, not Allen.
I sank to the ground, tears crawling down my cheeks.
"Oh my God...." I choked.
"But- he isn't totally dead"
"What do you mean?"
"Allen is a wanderer. I'm guessing you understand what I mean by the look on your face" Melvin said.
"He's somewhat alive but there's a problem. Someone else attached a dark soul to his. Allen is missing. We have to find him before he starts murdering people"
I stared at him, dazed.
Allen is dead but not dead.
Allen's soul has been ripped in part. Allen's soul has been attached to a dark soul.
That's a lot to take in.
I swallowed hard, feeling lightheaded.
"Also, your boyfriend is supposed to die tonight" Melvin said and I gasped.
"What?"
I looked up to see Theo standing on the stairs, staring at Melvin intensely.
"Dwain is coming for you, Theo. You might be powerful, but Dwain is very clever. There's only one way to disappoint his plans"
Theo clenched his jaw and made his way downstairs.
"Strike the enemy with his own weapon"
