Edna feels all the pain in wounded body parts go away as she sits up on the bed. Her heart is jamming against her chest and she feels her head getting lighter. Dimore has been arrested? Mister Jackson found out. Oh, no. Edna doesn't even know what to think right now. She looks at the ceiling and out of the window, her mind has never been more blank like this. Kim is wiping her tears and blowing her nose. She has never been more irritated by Mister Jackson's irrational thinking this much. The man chose to listen to his idiot of a son, not bothering that he almost killed her, and went on like a little boy to tell his father that her bodyguard stopped him from killing her. Thank God for Dimore, she would have been in a worse situation now. "What did the doctor say?" Edna asks. "Nothing. " Kim answers. " He recognized you and he didn't ask anything, he just treated us. " Edna is thinking of her next line of action. She doesn't have a phone, she doesn't have Malik's number and he is not in town. Can things turn out to be worse? She climbs out of the bed with a little difficulty. Kim turns to help her, but she waves her off. She steps out of the room, and walks straight out of the hospital, Kim is behind her. Edna is mad. She is so mad at the hospital staff that she decides to walk out of the hospital without informing them. She is mad because at her state, she has obviously been abused, but they decided not to say a word, not to ask if she's okay or not. She walks out of the hospital and looks around her car. She finds it and walks into it. "Keys?" She stretches out her hand. Kim drops them and takes a step back. Edna gets into the car, starts it, and drives it out of the parking space. She has positioned it to leave the hospital, she stops the car and looks out through the window. "What the hell are you waiting for? Get in. " Kim doesn't need to be told twice. She grabs herself and walks towards the car. She gets into the front seat and Edna zooms off. Edna watches the road with a stiff carefulness and a frown on her face. She hates driving, but she doesn't have a choice now that Dimore is not here. Kim is looking at her with some uncertainty. She looks from the road to her boss, then the road again. " Ma'am, do you want me to drive?" She offers. "Do I look like I am not doing a good enough job?" Edna scoffs. "That's not what I meant." Kim defends herself fearfully. " I just wanted to help. " " If you want to help me you should take out your phone and call Murphy right now. " Edna instructs. Murphy is one of Mister Jackson's PAs and he has great respect for Edna. He knows so much about Mister Jackson that he could tell the color of his underwear. If anyone should know anything about Dimore's whereabouts, it should be him. Kim has taken out her phone. She has dialed the number and has put it on speaker also. It's loudly ringing to the hearing of both of them. " Hi, secretary Kim. " Murphy says in a friendly voice. "This isn't Kim, this is Edna. " She tells him in a serious tone. "Oh, hi, Mrs. Jackson. "Murphy's voice changes immediately. "Listen, I don't have much time. " She says. " I got the news that my bodyguard was arrested, I need to know where he is. " There is a brief silence, Murphy is probably thinking if the best thing to be done is to give out such information. "Ma'am, I think you should speak to Mr. Jackson first. " He advises. " I didn't call for you to tell me what you think I should do. " She yells at him. " I asked a question and what I want is a fucking answer, Murphy. " He sighs at the other end of the phone. He is at a crossroads right now, but Edna's voice is forcing him to give in to her. " He is at the Police headquarters. " He gives in. " He was taken there about four hours ago. " "Thank you. " She ends the call and continues driving. She turns the wheels in the tire's screeches. Kim holds on to the dashboard for support, it's obvious that Edna has lost her mind. "I'm going to drop you by the train station. " She informs her. " Get a cab or join the train to go home. " "I want to go with you. "Kim says, somewhat pleading. "No. " Edna isn't making room for negotiation. " It's enough that Dimore has gotten into this mess because of me, I don't want you any deeper than you have gotten. " It's her boss so Kim doesn't argue. Edna drops her at the train station and after Kim bade her farewell, she goes back to the road, on her way to the hospital. She had got to get him out, even though she doesn't know how she is going to go about that. She gets to the police station and stops her car in a free space in the parking lot. She grabs the keys and walks into the huge building. Edna has never been in a police station before because she has been such an unproblematic person. She walks in and is met with such a busy scene that she gets confused immediately. It's loud and somehow scattered. Desks are everywhere, phone calls are being made and people in handcuffs are being dragged all over the place. One man who is casually leaning against the wall with a cup of coffee notices her and walks to her. "Hi, ma'am. " He salutes her. " Officer Casper, how can I be of help?" Edna smoothes her hair and takes a few steps toward him. "Hi, I'm Edna. Edna Jackson. " She gives him her and he takes it. " You don't need no introduction ma'am. " He smiles. " We all know who you are. " Edna smiles, not knowing if it's a good thing that everyone knows her. She wonders if she can use it to her advantage. " Um, my bodyguard was brought here some hours ago. " She explains. " He is Dimore Carter. " The man nods and sips from his cup. "Positive ma'am, he is right here in this building. " He confirms. Edna falls and becomes a little bit disgusted. Her lips tighten, but she keeps it that way so as not to yell at the man. They kept Dimore here without even knowing if he is innocent or not. " Can I see him?" Edna requests, trying to keep all her shit together. " That's not possible, I'm afraid. " He shakes his head. " It's the boss' orders. " Edna looks to the ground and practices breathing in and out. She doesn't want to pick a fight with this man. "Please, I won't speak to him." She begs. " I just want to see him, he doesn't need to see me. " The man listens to her, drinking from his cup. Her eyes widen and plead, and she looks like a puppy and no one can reject her request at this point. He looks around, making sure that no one sees her before gesturing to her to follow him. She does so immediately, expressing her thanks to him as they go. "I'm not supposed to do this, but here I am doing it. " He murmurs under his breath. "Thank you. " She says, her way of pacifying him. He leads her through a small hall with doors on the sides, probably offices. They keep walking till they get to another door at the end of the hall. He pushes it open and they come to some cells. They are not ordinary cells. They are metal protectors, but still have some kind of glass protection around them. From what Edna notices, the prisoners can't see them but can, as clear as with God's eyes. Edna keeps following the police officer step by step. There are a number of people in here and at least ten in one cell. She keeps her eyes away from the hurtful looks on their face and from the eyes of the angry ones. The officer comes to stop and so does she. "Well, here he is. " He says. " You said you only wanted to see him. " Yes, Dimore is right in front of her, but she can beat to look at him. She doesn't want to see him sitting there dejected, she knows that he is in here because he was only trying to defend her. She forces herself to look at him and her eyes widen in shock and her hand goes to her mouth as a gasp escapes. Dimore has been in here for only a few hours, but his good suit has been so roughly handled that it's torn in many places. His lips are cut around with painfully red marks and his left eye is barely opening. " You guys beat him up?" Edna sobs. " He didn't do anything. " She falls her head into her hands and tries so hard not to cry. The officer doesn't say anything, he is staring at Dimore. " I want him out of here. " Edna declares. " He hasn't done anything wrong, I want to bail him out. " " You will have to take that out with the boss ma'am. " He sighs sadly and shoves his hands into his pocket. " I really want to help, but my boss is in charge and he is following Mister Jackson's orders. " Yeah, the very person who put him here in the first place. It dawns on her that if she wants Malik out of here, she has to plead with Mister Jackson himself. She hates the man right now and the last thing she wants to do is beg him, but she has no choice. She has to do it for Dimore's sake, she can't let him spend another hour in this hellhole.
